Is China now the Preferred Export Destination for Cameras?

I have been away from this for a few months, and here we are now in the June 2025 CIPA reporting cycle. For those unaware, CIPA reports on all production and shipments of Cameras from Japanese vendors.

ARRI is For Sale, Canon Should Consider an Aquisition

There are reports that iconic cinema camera manufacturer ARRI may be for sale. Changes in the industry post-pandemic have hit the company hard. Hollywood for theatre productions have slowed down over the last few years. Streaming services are working hard to reduce production costs, which have lead to a significant drop in sales and cashflow […]

There are some new specifications and rumors about the upcoming Hasselblad X2DII

and Richard naturally has an opinion ;)

R5II - Sending Images to a Smartphone from the Camera [GPS data missing]

R5 mark II.
Latest fw 1.1.1

Did use Camera Connect app to provide Location information when photographing.
This works rather good.
Imported all images with a cardreader to PC, all EXIF/GPS-information is included in the imported files.

Then tried few of same images with the function "Sending Images to a Smartphone from the Camera" - from the playback menu of the R5II.
This works great, but now the GPS-info in the files are not included in the files received on my phone (S23), and all other EXIF/IPTC are OK.
When looking at the files on the camera the GPS-info is there for all the files.

Why is this?
Bug in R5II firmware?

Premium Members Board

There was a board for premium members, which I do not see anymore.

The board was supposed to notify us if there's any exclusive gifts, sales, etc for premium members.

Does anyone know if there is one somewhere that I just can't find? If it's gone, will it be back?

Are the promised gifts still a thing or not; or are they just on the backburner? I just don't want to be left out, if there's anything we have to sign up for! Not that I'm holding my breath. I know there's been a lot going on with the site.

Canon R5M2

There have been comments elsewhere that some folks are not using OEM batteries. I was under the impression that NON-OEM batteries wouldn't work w/ the R5M2. Is that now incorrect?

As to the issue of firmware #1.0.3, my camera would do weird things like, failing to focus, or locking up and not being able to change setting. Power cycling the camera took care of the problem, but who wants to do that? Also the metering seemed to be effected from time to time...the camera became untrustworthy. I sent my camera to Norfolk and had the firmware "wound back" to. 1.0.2, but I haven't shot since then (got it back a few days ago).
