RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM Lens vs. RF 24-105mm F4 L IS Lens: My first & ONLY lens?

Hello insightful members,

I'm purchasing a EOS R (set and ready on this model)... but my question is:
Should I get the KIT or, body only and splurge on the RF 24-70mm f/2.8?

I want only one lens, one for portraits, street photography and travel/landscape: which one of these lenses provides the better quality and long term solution to fit my needs? I know the 24-105 as part of the kit is a good price, but I want opinions if upgrading immediately to the 24-70mm is smart, or is REALLY and upgraded lens/superior one over what's supplied with the kit?

I also kicked around this: how about just spending a tad more to get
Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Lens
Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Lens

As my only lens?

Since I'll be spending 2k+ USD, how about a few hundred more for that only?

Any and all replies are greatly appreciated.

Patent: Inner zoom RF 70-200mm f/2.8 and RF 70-200mm f/4

Canon News has uncovered a patent with optical formulas for an RF 70-200mm f/2.8 and RF 70-200 f/4. What’s interesting about this patent is that both designs are for inner zoom lenses, which is different than the current RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM which as you know has an external zoo, which does help keep the lens compact when in your bag and in your hand.
It would be pretty cool if Canon gave photographers a choice of which design they’d prefer to buy, but I think the chances of that are quite slim.

Luminous Landscape Website charging a subscription?

Is it worth it? I don't seem to ever having a need to bookmark the site. However the other day I clicked on a Google link for birding/monopod info and found it has gone to a subscription model. Initial reaction? WTF. Now if it were CR or TDP, I'd buy in but....I truly wonder if it is maintaining enough subs to keep afloat. OR just aliening people like myself.

Canon releases financials and lays out advanced EOS R plans

Canon has released its financials for 2019 and opens up about the future of their mirrorless plans in their corporate summary.
Although we have launched two full-frame mirrorless cameras as well as ten dedicated lenses, our lineup is still insufficient. In order to recover from our late entry into the mirrorless camera market, we have plans to launch a model that incorporates a newly developed image sensor and image-processing engine that offer even more advanced features. We will work to raise our presence in the mirrorless camera category, leveraging large trade exhibitions around the world. Even amid increasing competition, we will expand sales of higher-end models driven by new products and aim for top market share even in the mirrorless camera market.
Canon further explains they will continue to develop and release new RF lenses fairly quickly.

At the same time, we will expand our lineup of dedicated...

Is an RF 100-500mm lens on the way? [CR2]

Earlier today I mentioned a possible second lens being announced for the RF mount alongside the new kit lens, the RF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM, but that I wasn’t quite sure what it was.
I have been told that an RF 100-500mm lens is coming, unfortunately, I have not been given the aperture range of the lens, nor if it will be an L lens.
We have also received some hints that RF teleconverters are on the way as well.
More to come…

Can someone check their Canon 70-200 F4L IS II (version two) to see if rattles when shaken?

Yes, IS elements group is parked by turning off the camera before removing the lens (failed to do this one time and the IS group rattled like crazy)

Once parked, the lens group STILL rattles but not loudly or not much at all. I am guessing this is normal but this lens is so new I just want to make sure.

The images that come from it are sharp. So no decentering etc which is comforting.

Canon RF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM on the way, as well as a second lens

Nokishita has appeared to confirm that Canon will release a new RF mount kit lens, the RF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM.
We have also been told that a second lens was also coming soon, this one is a super-telephoto zoom for the RF mount. We think we know the focal range and speed, but we’re still working on confirming that information.
*note: the image for this post is the Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM

Let’s talk about those Canon EOS RS/R5 specifications

*Update* We’ve added new specifications for the Canon EOS R5, check them out here.
The Canon EOS RS/R5 specifications that we posted yesterday certainly caused a stir on this site with lots of discussions here as well as on social media.
I haven’t read the forums in regard to what we posted, nor have I checked in on Facebook, I didn’t want to overthink things, so I’ve just stuck with talking to some sources and friends about this rumored camera.

The good news?
A known source has let us know that what was, posted yesterday has a lot of truth to it. It’s not 100% accurate, but they did not clarify any specifications, as this particular source never does.
Yes, we have two reports on the resolution of the sensor and a slight discrepancy in the stills frame rate.
Again, the way this information came to us is the reason I posted it, however...

7D Mark ii replacement

So I haven’t been keeping up with rumors of late and was confused about which camera is supposed to be the 7D series replacement with the discontinuation of that line? I don’t see the 90D filling that spot nor any of the R cameras. The rumored rs will surely be twice the cost of the 7d mkii. So has Canon abandoned hobbyist wildlife shooters or am I missing something? Doesn’t seem right to discontinue a very popular camera which at over 5 years old was due for an upgrade, and have nothing in the pipeline to take it’s place.

Canon EOS RS Specifications? [CR1]

Posting this specification list actually kept up last night (silly right?), as I find some of it too good to be true, but as a few of you mentioned on Twitter, this is a rumors site, not a facts site.
I received this information from two unrelated people, one of which I have had interaction with in the past, and I actually trust neither of them is trolling me in any way. Some of their specifications are slightly different, but they’re still very close.
One of the sources did mention that the camera may be called the EOS R5, and not the EOS RS, as the model name “was hard to see”.
The video specifications only came from one source, and they are insane. These are what really caused me to pause, but hopefully, this post brings some clarification.
Canon EOS RS Specifications:

45mp (One source said 40mp)
IBIS

5 stops with IBIS alone
7-8 stops of correction when used with in-lens stabilization

14fps / 20fps (One source said 12fps / 20fps)
Scroll wheel added to the back

SIGMA announces release date for PL mount CINE lenses

SIGMA announces the shipment schedule for SIGMA CINE LENS /i Technology-compatible PL mount lens in the FF High-Speed Prime Line.

Shipment schedule: February 2020

Optimized for large-format camera systems and 8K shooting, the FF High-Speed Prime Line lenses deliver stunning image quality in compact construction. A new addition to this prime lens lineup comes with electronic contacts that support Cooke’s /i Technology communication protocol for Art Prime PL mount lenses. By using an /i Technology-compatible cine lens with a cine camera that supports the same protocol, users can see and record lens metadata such as focus distance, focal length, and aperture. This helps streamline compositing in the post-production process. This is particularly suitable for the latest forms of filmmaking, such as VFX, that call for detailed shooting data. Prototypes of this /i Technology-compatible FF High-Speed Prime lens were used for shooting “Top Gun: Maverick”, scheduled to be released in 2020...

It’s been a while, but an APS-C equipped EOS R body gets another mention [CR2]

Ever since the Canon EOS R was announced, one of the big questions was whether or not we’d see an APS-C equipped EOS R to replace the EOS 7D Mark II, or if that sensor size would be left for the EOS M line.
A good source tells us that such a camera is in active development at Canon, but likely won’t see the light of day until 2021. More lenses in the RF lineup are a priority over an APS-C body we have been told, but that there definitely would not be “RF-S” lenses developed for a smaller sensor EOS R camera body.
This is the first we’ve heard about such a camera body in a long while, and I do think we’ll eventually see one as a performance model, and not “entry-level”.
There’s not much new here, but I’m glad it gets another mention.

EF 100-400 ii IS & monopod questions for birds, both perched and BIF

I am new to Mode 3 IS. I am a beginner birder and wonder about using Mode 3 with and without the 1.4 Ext and occasionally on a monopod. The lens has the auto sense to turn off when not needed yet a monopods movements on a tilt head can be nothing like the stability of a tripod for which the auto off was designed.

So this is a 2 part question I guess. Best Mode for IS for perched birds? (I know to turn it off for BIF) and will IS help on a monopod and if so which mode?

*I know to handhold shoot with this lens yet in certain conditions and after a period I enjoy the monopod, especially while being patient with birds.

TIA
