Canon News has uncovered a patent with optical formulas for an RF 70-200mm f/2.8 and RF 70-200 f/4. What’s interesting about this patent is that both designs are for inner zoom lenses, which is different than the current RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM which as you know has an external zoo, which does help keep the lens compact when in your bag and in your hand.
It would be pretty cool if Canon gave photographers a choice of which design they’d prefer to buy, but I think the chances of that are quite slim.

Canon has released its financials for 2019 and opens up about the future of their mirrorless plans in their corporate summary.
Although we have launched two full-frame mirrorless cameras as well as ten dedicated lenses, our lineup is still insufficient. In order to recover from our late entry into the mirrorless camera market, we have plans to launch a model that incorporates a newly developed image sensor and image-processing engine that offer even more advanced features. We will work to raise our presence in the mirrorless camera category, leveraging large trade exhibitions around the world. Even amid increasing competition, we will expand sales of higher-end models driven by new products and aim for top market share even in the mirrorless camera market.
Canon further explains they will continue to develop and release new RF lenses fairly quickly.
At the same time, we will expand our lineup of dedicated...
Earlier today I mentioned a possible second lens being announced for the RF mount alongside the new kit lens, the RF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM, but that I wasn’t quite sure what it was.
I have been told that an RF 100-500mm lens is coming, unfortunately, I have not been given the aperture range of the lens, nor if it will be an L lens.
We have also received some hints that RF teleconverters are on the way as well.
More to come…
Nokishita has appeared to confirm that Canon will release a new RF mount kit lens, the RF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM.
We have also been told that a second lens was also coming soon, this one is a super-telephoto zoom for the RF mount. We think we know the focal range and speed, but we’re still working on confirming that information.
*note: the image for this post is the Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
Beyond the excitement of the new EOS R camera bodies that appear to be coming, we’re also getting a new EOS Rebel 850D/T8i very shortly.

24.1mp
DIGIC 8
45 AF points (all cross-type)
7fps
4K @ 30P
3″ 1.04 million pixel touch panel vari-angle LCD
131.0 x 102.6 x 76.2mm 515g

We mentioned previously that four new full-frame cameras were coming from Canon in 2020, and we now know two of them are the EOS-1D X Mark III and the EOS R5. The third camera looks to be the EOS R6, as we received base specifications for the upcoming mirrorless camera.
Canon EOS R6 Specifications:
20mp full-frame CMOS sensor
IBIS
12fps mechanical and 20fps electronic.
4K @ 60p
New battery (Not sure if it’s the same as the EOS R5)
June 2020 launch (We think a May announcement)
We’ll update you once we hear more
Canon EOS R5 Specifications:
Named the Canon EOS R5
45mp full-frame CMOS sensor
IBIS
5 stops with IBIS alone
7-8 stops of correction when used with in-lens stabilization
12fps mechanical, 20fps electronic
Dual card slots
Scroll wheel added to the back
No touch bar
Liveview/Movie toggle like previous EOS DSLRs
Larger capacity battery, but looks like the LP-E6
8K @ 30fps
4K @ 120fps
4K @ 60fps
Built-in 5GHz WiFi
New battery, but the same shape and compatibility as the EOS 5D Mark IV
Announcement ahead of CP+ next month
Launching in July 2020 (I’m assuming this means ship date)
Announcement on or around February 13, 2020
I’ll obviously be posting updates as I get them.
*Update* I have removed the “RAW” part of the 8K @ 30p video specifications, I thought I had done that yesterday. The source that confirmed some of...
*Update* We’ve added new specifications for the Canon EOS R5, check them out here.
The Canon EOS RS/R5 specifications that we posted yesterday certainly caused a stir on this site with lots of discussions here as well as on social media.
I haven’t read the forums in regard to what we posted, nor have I checked in on Facebook, I didn’t want to overthink things, so I’ve just stuck with talking to some sources and friends about this rumored camera.
The good news?
A known source has let us know that what was, posted yesterday has a lot of truth to it. It’s not 100% accurate, but they did not clarify any specifications, as this particular source never does.
Yes, we have two reports on the resolution of the sensor and a slight discrepancy in the stills frame rate.
Again, the way this information came to us is the reason I posted it, however...
The Canon USA store has refurbished Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lenses in stock for $1519 (Reg $1799). These lenses come with a full 1-year Canon USA warranty.
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM $1519 (Reg $1799)
Posting this specification list actually kept up last night (silly right?), as I find some of it too good to be true, but as a few of you mentioned on Twitter, this is a rumors site, not a facts site.
I received this information from two unrelated people, one of which I have had interaction with in the past, and I actually trust neither of them is trolling me in any way. Some of their specifications are slightly different, but they’re still very close.
One of the sources did mention that the camera may be called the EOS R5, and not the EOS RS, as the model name “was hard to see”.
The video specifications only came from one source, and they are insane. These are what really caused me to pause, but hopefully, this post brings some clarification.
Canon EOS RS Specifications:
45mp (One source said 40mp)
IBIS
5 stops with IBIS alone
7-8 stops of correction when used with in-lens stabilization
14fps / 20fps (One source said 12fps / 20fps)
Scroll wheel added to the back

SIGMA announces the shipment schedule for SIGMA CINE LENS /i Technology-compatible PL mount lens in the FF High-Speed Prime Line.
Shipment schedule: February 2020
Optimized for large-format camera systems and 8K shooting, the FF High-Speed Prime Line lenses deliver stunning image quality in compact construction. A new addition to this prime lens lineup comes with electronic contacts that support Cooke’s /i Technology communication protocol for Art Prime PL mount lenses. By using an /i Technology-compatible cine lens with a cine camera that supports the same protocol, users can see and record lens metadata such as focus distance, focal length, and aperture. This helps streamline compositing in the post-production process. This is particularly suitable for the latest forms of filmmaking, such as VFX, that call for detailed shooting data. Prototypes of this /i Technology-compatible FF High-Speed Prime lens were used for shooting “Top Gun: Maverick”, scheduled to be released in 2020...
Ever since the Canon EOS R was announced, one of the big questions was whether or not we’d see an APS-C equipped EOS R to replace the EOS 7D Mark II, or if that sensor size would be left for the EOS M line.
A good source tells us that such a camera is in active development at Canon, but likely won’t see the light of day until 2021. More lenses in the RF lineup are a priority over an APS-C body we have been told, but that there definitely would not be “RF-S” lenses developed for a smaller sensor EOS R camera body.
This is the first we’ve heard about such a camera body in a long while, and I do think we’ll eventually see one as a performance model, and not “entry-level”.
There’s not much new here, but I’m glad it gets another mention.
