Sigma to Announce a 65mm F1 or Faster Full Frame Lens in September?

It looks like Sigma is going to be announcing another lens in September for the bokeh addicts out there. It's rumored that they will be announcing a new full-frame 65mm lens that is faster than f/1.2. A 65mm f/1.0 or 65mm f/0.95 perhaps? Big aperture lenses seem to be the new megapixel race. Faster no […]

See in the Dark: Canon Announces the Ultra high-Sensitivity MS-510 Camera with all-new 1-inch SPAD sensor

Canon has announced another new camera sporting a SPAD sensor. The improved sensor only needs 0.0006 lux of light to capture an image. That's a fairly big jump from it's predecessor, which needed 0.001 lux. Either way, SPAD sensors are fascinating. At approximately 3.2 million pixels, the new Canon 1-inch SPAD sensor is the highest […]

RF100-400 question

I hope someone who owns the RF 100-400 can help me out. Apparently, I'm having no luck with this lens (or maybe I am?). I bought the lens from Canon a long time ago and the AF didn't work. I have since acquired a new copy. The AF works. The lens barrel locks properly when extended and doesn't wobble. However, when I look inside the front of the lens, I see the lens group moving when I, for example, gently move the lens from left to right and back again. So, it seems to be loose on the inside. I didn't notice that with the other RF100-400. I took some short test photos indoors. (It is raining outside) AF, IS, and quality seem fine. I haven't done a PixelPeep test yet to determine if alignment plays a role. When you have the lens, do you also see the entire assembly moving inside when you move the lens?

EOS R system as a 2nd system - anyone else

I know this is a Canon enthusiast forum and likely nearly everyone here has R as their only OR primary system, but just wondering if anyone has another branded system as their primary, and the R system (any EOS R body) as their secondary system?

And why? Just out of curiosity and fun discussion.

I've shot Canon large sensor digital since '05. Been a Canon shooter since. In 2015 I started to migrate over to Fujifilm for its smaller size and to basically get into mirrorless. Also shot EOS M for a long while too.

Today my X-T5 is my primary system. I use Canon EF glass (for fun) on it and it shoots near natively in operation. But I thought why not also shoot a Canon R body for even additional options. However its still large, with EF glass especially. So it's just really a secondary/hipster case. I'm not saying one is better than the other, in fact I prefer Canon in many ways, I just overall like using a smaller system and love the Fujifilm dials and overall results. If canon made a highly polished compact APS-C system with dedicated high end APS-C primes--both with high aesthetics/materials quality/metal build, I'd go for it. But no such thing exists.

“All-New Sensor” Coming to the Next PowerShot Cameras

This will be the year that Canon releases new PowerShot cameras with photographers in mind. Yes, they'll still have the video features, but don't expect the next batch of cameras to resemble the PowerShot V1. I don't expect to see any PowerShot announcements until late August at the earliest ahead of the Q4 shopping season. […]

Spring 2026

Well, it's April and technically it's spring now. I thought we were done with snow in Boston, as did the tiger lilies that are pushing up through the mulch in my front yard. Only ~1 cm, and it will be gone by afternoon. I moved here after the April Fool's Day blizzard in 1997, but people still talk about that here.

Canon Shows off Interesting RF 55mm & RF 85mm F1.8 Designs

Canon's latest round of patent applications has been published. JPO 2026-059152 shows off some interesting consumer RF mount prime lens optical designs. The most noteable thing about these designs is that they're compact and don't have any stretching to cover the full image height of full frame sensors. The optical designs aren't as complex as […]

R1 missing features?

I'm new to the R1, I still have my OG R6, prior to that I used to be a 1D-X shooter.
To my surprise, apparently the R1 does not feature an in-camera trimming/cut tool to cut videos. As a wildlife shooter, I generally cut the videos in-camera, as I often need only couple of seconds from a footage and by doing so I could save up space on my hard drive. Surely, I can get around by cutting footages on my PC with a software like Loseless Cut, but I did not expect the R1 no to have that feature (lower end bodies all have that).

Also, the R1 not having waveforms is unexpected, as R5II has it.

Not being able to assign pre-capture to a button is weird, although you can get around that with different custom shooting modes. You can assign pre-recording to a button in video mode, however.

I know my R6 inside-out, the R1 is still a bit overwhelming at first, as it is highly customizable. It is definitely a most capable camera I have ever owned, though. I noticed it is far more reliable in back-lit situations than any camera I have used, I guess it has to do someting with the cross-type AF point.

Any insights from R1 users would be appreciated!
