help buying 1st Canon(prosumer)

thanks for any advice in advance, here's a little bit of something I've been going through, btw I'm very new to trying to film on a pro-sudeo level so please excuse any of my cringe worthy comments or questions

I'm more of music guy but am working with someone who's also a music person but also willing to help on the video front. I was in the market for a Canon but after watching a bunch of videos with the iPhone xs max compared to countless prosumer cameras I was sold that it could match up with the real deal. So I upgraded from 7plus to iPhone xs max and filmic pro app, also bought final cut pro. So it came time to start shooting some music video footage at 4k 24fps 100 bits, shot in natural and flat and took time to really get some great footage, and although I thought the videos came out very good, they just weren't as creamy and smooth (when moving slightly and all around actually) as some of the other footage on different days they got with a couple of Canons, those didn't have 4k but were at 1080 hd 24fps (Quick note: now that I think about all those youtube shootout videos with the xs max vs enter really great camera here, they never were actually moving very much, but always still or slow-mo, and I'm not talking about moving fast or sloppy but just slightly, just seems the iPhone with filmic pro doesn't have the juice that solely prosumer cameras have, I could be wrong) So this person decided to only use the canon 1080 hd 24 fps footage and in editing right now its looking phenomenal! I'm not sure which canons they had but I know neither had 4k, I started to think maybe 4k was a problem at least on my end with filmic pro and iPhone but we tested 1080 hd 24 and it looked worse than the 4k, plus I stumbled across this beautiful 4k music video shot on a mark 4 posted by canon Europe so clearly that was idiotic off me to even think that 4k could have been the problem

here's the Canon Europe video shot with 5D mark 4 has me sold

I've come to the conclusion am not going to get footage like this off my iPhone Xs max no matter what 3rd party app and however much editing or however much skill, I don't doubt you can get some really great footage thats doable as I've got some myself but it just doesn't look professional or have weight like this but feels more thin/grainy/sharply digital and so on but still good

I've been holding off on buying the 5d mark 4 as it's going on 3 years and hopefully they'll be coming with a newer version before the olympics, but also I do not like the crop on 4k at all, I believe all of the current canons have that crop at 4K?

I watched the leaked 90D video and wasn't able to tell if there is crop on the 4k, do you guys think that 90D will be able to shoot the same quality as that video I posted? is not having 24fps but only 30 and 25 a bad thing?

so after all that I'm trying to find out in the price range of about 4grand(has two be new, and also tryna get a 50mm and 24-105 lens hopefully) but willing to spend a little more what kind of canon could produce the quality thats in that video I posted other than the mark 4. You think the EOS R? 90D when it comers out? or should I wait a little while longer? the whole goal is to get footage like in that video and I am aware that theres a lot of post production and a lot of skill when actually filming but I want to make sure that the camera I buy Is capable of getting such footage in the first place, sorry if my thread is a mess and really makes no sense to you guys, let men know if I can further explain anything and thanks again for your time and help!

Tamron teases four new mirrorless lenses, likely not for RF

Tamron USA has begun teasing four new mirrorless lenses on their =68.ARDA5h3IgqrAjlk-fY6cYtu5U1QEcb87X3MsEp1If5yFbYBEPLvN4lYMwv4O2S_cQU-RwbxL8CRQIL5YCpptVR1qRaojc0Rdlrr096mSPSVjTt_8UONascWruXV3Pl8YYT1Jae1YnF9Dxsp9N4De62L4ZjRHELBGSeOaYThiHBVyACcl4-NA6sQysV-jFH-v6MoOBciiBo7ksst5o6nLJKWQRnXmhGvp8TMFv95Ykr92IYTEHjCdPMwEqYU9L2eb8ykdIFLZGmyr3sGC8Pxh9Wl5JKbIXYN2SYUyvdrt5IIgCf3-xGaF5t88qJSkDzpuAMYWisdD1OYipaWZPk9ym4PVss1DDw&__tn__=-R]Facebook page.
There’s no mention of what the four lenses are as of yet, or what mount(s) these lenses will be available for. I think it’s still a bit early to see third party autofocus lenses for Canon’s RF mount from Tamron or SIGMA, but surprises do happen.
Tamron currently has 2 mirrorless lenses for Sony’s  FE mount, so it’s likely these will be for Sony as well. Judging by the teaser, it looks like a telephoto zoom lens and three prime lenses are coming.

Canon nFD 50mm f/1.4 on the M5

Last month, I decided to have a little fun on my travels to Joliet, Illinois while I was covering the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl at Route 66 Raceway. I brought my fully manual Canon nFD 50mm f/1.4 lens (my particular copy was built in 1981). You can pick these lenses up for between $60-130, depending on condition and I adapted it to my $425 used Canon M5 crop sensor camera. Together, I had an affordable, fun, and lightweight camera setup to explore the race pits and staging lanes with.

When you take thousands of images a month, you have to shake things up to keep things interesting and fun. Just like any job, it's easy to get burnt out and I have really been excited to start working with my collection of vintage lenses more and more. I leave on Thursday for our next race and will bring another old FD lens with me.

Poll: Are you going to be preordering the Canon EOS 90D or Canon EOS M6 Mark II?

We are a week away from the official announcements for the Canon EOS 90D and Canon EOS M6 Mark II, two cameras that have pretty much leaked in full. Though there are some questions that still need to be answered, as the specification sheets did have some errors in them.
That said, with what you know already are you ready to put down your hard-earned money for either of these pretty impressive cameras (on paper)?

120 Film recommendations? Development lab recommendations? To be shot Pinhole.

Hello all,

I ended up getting and receiving one of the ONDU 3 pinhole cameras, 6x12 Multi-format ones.

I've been looking at what films to try....thinking B&W first.

Does anyone have recommendations?

I've read you should get decently fast film, due to potential long exposure times.

Looking at maybe:

ILFORD Film, maybe the Delta 400 Film
or maybe:
Kodak Tri-X 400

And even for color I think the Kodak Portra films?

anyway, can someone give me a recommendation on where to start please?

Also, while I think eventually I'd like to try to do my own developing, while I'm trying out exposures and taking notes to compare, I'd like to use a lab to develop and take that variable out of the equation.

Can someone recommend a good lab to develop my 120 film?

I'm thinking I"ll try my hand at scanning them myself, but would like recommendations on where to send them to be developed.

Thank you all in advance!!

Question about a theoretical lens.

I'm not saying this will ever happen, but there are a lot of smart guys here who will know how to calculate this. I'm wondering what the size (front filter thread or front element?) of a 70-135 f/1.8, f/2 or 70-150mm might be, and whether or not it would be even practical from a size point of view. With what Canon has been producing lately, I am wondering whether there is a possibility that Canon would make a shorter zoom than a 70-200 f/2.8 with a wider aperture. For a guy that focuses almost exclusively on portraits, model boot camps, or fashion show runways, something faster and shorter would be really nice in a zoom, from my perspective.

Canon EOS Roadmap

With the release of the 90D, I believe we can get a pretty good idea of Canon's product roadmap over the next 18-24 months.

EOS Rs --Apprx. 83 mp sensor, probably only one version and it will not have an anti-aliasing filter, may be the first Canon body with in-body image stabilization. Otherwise, I expect it will be virtually the same body as the EOS R -- sorry guys, no joystick for you. It's no longer needed with touchscreen focusing. Don't plan on a second card slot either.

1Dx III -- Evolutionary design with improved eye and face detection focusing the major feature. Some increased coverage of autofocus points. Sensor somewhere in the 30-40 mp range. May have IBIS, but only if Canon is confident of the durability and reliability of the feature in a camera built to be abused. I'd give it about 50/50 odds. Incremental increase in frame rate. CFast and SD card slots.

EOS Rx -- Same sensor as the 1Dx III. Frame rate equals or exceeds the 1Dx III. Same autofocus, but with 100% viewfinder coverage. Same battery. Same card slots.

EOS R7d -- APS-C version -- This is something of a unicorn. A few months ago I would have given it no chance, but with Nikon preparing to release an APS-C mirrorless I think the chances go up, but still probably only about 50/50 and it will be the last of the EOS R models to be released -- only after the Rs and Rx.

EOS R II -- Those unhappy with the EOS R and looking for what they consider to be a true equivalent to the 5D series are in for a disappointment. The market won't sustain that many full frame bodies and Canon feels the EOS R is that equivalent. If you want more, you will have to wait for the EOS R II -- probably three years out, but maybe just two.

5D V -- Yes, there will be a 5D V, but it's too early to make any predictions about what it will include.

APS-C DSLRs -- Canon will continue to make and sell Rebels and the 90D II etc., so long as the market is there. Many enthusiasts still prefer the DSLR form factor, so the 90D line is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. Many people still consider the DSLR form factor to be what a "real" camera looks like, so don't expect Canon to abandon their Rebels any time soon.

EOS M -- I don't follow this series, but I'm sure there will be another model that has an integrated viewfinder, but incorporates the other features of the new M6. As long as the niche market for small and portable exists, the M line will be around.

Okay, in the immortal words of Harry Film, you heard it here first. That's my prediction, feel free to make your own and then bookmark this thread to see who comes closest to being correct.

Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L

This little (not) treasure was delivered today. I took some quick shots of my grandson. I tried eye AF and servo. He is too quick for eye AF and I am too slow on the trigger. ;) I can't remember whether this was taken in eye AF or servo. If I had to guess, I would say servo. He just never stops moving around and I had a split second to capture this. I'll get a better idea about just how sharp it is when I have a model that will be still. We all know toddlers are never still. :)

The only editing was a crop, lowering exposure by about 1/2 stop, and a little noise reduction for noise in the background. It is quite dark in our apt., so I expected a little noise in the background. I think the colors are great, and it locks focus quickly.

I need some advice on how to order from Adorama so that this website can get affiliate money to help out. I have to really praise Adorama's service. Big ticket items are sent next business day air. It goes further than that though. After ordering the lens I placed a second order for a flash that was supposed to be sent ground. Adorama sent both orders next day business air. They came in separate boxes, so somebody must have been paying attention. I'm not even a VIP 360 member.

Edit: I meant one shot or servo.

Review: Tamron 35mm f/1.4 Di USD

The-Digital-Picture have completed their review of the brand new Tamron 35mm f/1.4 Di USD, a lens Tamron claims to be their best ever.
Does it hold up to Tamron’s claims?
You typically buy a wide aperture lens to use at its widest aperture. Often, the aperture selected on my mounted prime lens does not leave the wide-open setting. Unfortunately, the image quality at the wide-open aperture is so often not amazing, typically showing reduced resolution and contrast. The good news is that this lens turns in very nice image quality even at f/1.4.
The Tamron 35mm f/1.4 Di USD Lens delivers very sharp full frame corner-to-corner results with a wide-open f/1.4 aperture. Stopping down to f/2 brings a noticeable bump in contrast and another slight increase can be seen at f/4 where the results are very impressive. Read the full review

All is quiet regarding the EOS 90D and EOS M6 Mark II

Over the last week or so, our inbox has become really quiet as far as EOS 90D and EOS M6 Mark II announcements go. It’s surprising that this close to the August 28, 2019 announcement for each camera that we aren’t hearing new things almost daily.
Interestingly, we have been told by a couple of Canon dealers around the globe that Canon is setting up major training and showcasing of new products in early September, one of the retailers told us that this training seems to be above and beyond what Canon usually does for a new consumer EOS DSLR and EOS M cameras. This tells us that either these new products are a big departure from their previous iterations, or there could be another product being announced that hasn’t leaked at all. Canon has become really good at stopping leaks.
We have heard that an EOS M5 Mark II is coming, and was originally going to be announced alongside the EOS M6 Mark II, but has been delayed. There has been no word on when we can expect a new flagship EOS M...
