Canon 1DX Mark II Vs Canon 7D Mark II- ISO Level Comparison

I just thought it is interesting to share the ISO performance of two top Canon bodies, the top one from the Fullframe Line up, Canon 1DX MArk ii and the top one from the APS-C line up, Canon &D MArk ii

Even though, without any doubt. 1DX mark Ii is a clear winner. it is interesting to see the noise levels at the same ISOs for two types of top camera bodies from Canon

Fujifilm announces X-T30 with seriously upgraded video chops

I like this Fuji series of bodies and this latest one comes with an impressive set of features and high performance all at a very decent price. ($1300 cdn w 15-45mm kit lens or $999us, $899us body)

Kinda steals some thunder from the RP's debut, IMO.

Interview: Canon execs talk EOS RP with Imaging Resource

The Canon EOS RP was officially announced yesterday (or today for some folks) and has received a pretty positive reception. Canonites are a passionate bunch and I’ve been very impressed with the reception that EOS RP has received.
Imaging Resource had a chance to sit down with Canon execs to talk all things Canon EOS RP.
Some questions we think a lot of you want answers to?
The 26.2mp sensor is the exact same sensors that appeared in the EOS 6D Mark II. Some adjustments to the microlenses were needed for light angles and things like that, but everything else is identical. The DIGIC 8 processor in the EOS RP is the exact same as any other DIGIC 8 processor as well.

Canon also paid particular attention to the build quality of this little camera. The magnesium alloy and plastic construction was a big part of the development. They wanted it to feel great in your hands.

When do you actually use face detection AF?

As everyone registers their indignation that the new firmware for the EOS R still doesn't allow eye detection AF in servo mode, honestly I'm not sure why I should care about this. Face/eye detection AF as a whole has never seemed consistent enough to me (on any camera) for me to feel like I can rely on it. I played with it a couple times on my EOS R, but immediately switched back to manual AF point selection the minute the camera started deciding someone's shirt looked like a face.

Yet everyone seems to be going crazy for face/eye detection. When are you actually using it? It always seemed too inconsistent for me in real world, dynamic situations (often misses faces or locks onto something that's not a face.) And in controlled portrait situations, why not just manually place a point on the person's eye to be sure it's correct?

CIPA rates the EOS RP at 250 shots per battery charge. Ken Rockwell expects much more in practice. I am hopeless at battery life. Whereas others claim more than 1000 shots from their M5, I am lucky to get 100, and it's the same in general for me on all cameras. What do you expect you will get from the EOS RP?

Canon appears to have confirmed IBIS is on the roadmap

A slide from an EOS R/RF lens presentation confirms Canon is working on IBIS for future EOS R cameras. The system is called “All Optical IS” and it looks like in-lens and in-body image stabilization will work in harmony.
This should appease a lot of people and I would expect to see it in the third EOS R camera body within the next year, which we’ll have more on later.

FroKnowsPhoto: Hands-on with the Canon EOS RP

Jared Polin AKA FroKnowsPhoto had a chance to visit New Orleans on Canon’s dime to get some hands-on time with the Canon EOS RP, Canon’s latest full frame camera.
This isn’t a full review, but it is a hands-on photo shoot and a good one at that. Jared had my favorite review of the EOS R, and this review of the EOS RP should answer most of your questions.
Jared also gives his impressions of the 6 new RF mount lenses announced to be in development here.

Canon has produced 140 million EF lenses

On December 19, 2018, Canon reached a new production milestone of 140 million EF lenses*, reinforcing its position as the world's highest-volume manufacturer of interchangeable lenses. True to the development concept of the EOS Series established in 1987.

*Including EF-S, EF-M, RF lenses and EF Cinema lenses

Source: https://global.canon/en/news/2019/20190214.html

Seeming that milestone was 57 days ago it is safe to assume that the 140 million EF lenses could solely be attributed to lenses related to the EF mount rather than RF lenses.

Canon officially announces the development of 6 new RF mount lenses

Press Release:
New Lenses Under Development Cover a Range of Core Focal Lengths
MELVILLE, N.Y., February 13, 2019 – Continuing with the message of “optics at its core,” Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced that its parent company, Canon Inc, is developing six new RF-series lenses, further displaying the company’s commitment to the EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera system. Canon’s new RF mount allows for fast, light, and high-performing optics with a large opening diameter and short back focus distance. Each new lens in development will help fulfill the needs of amateur and advanced amateurs to professional photographers and videographers, covering critical focal lengths. In 2019, Canon’s already well-established optical lens heritage will celebrate a production milestone of 140 million EF and RF lenses and the celebration starts with the development announcement of these six lenses...

New Super-Compact and Ultra-Lightweight EOS RP is Ideal for Users Looking to Graduate to Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera at an Affordable Price
MELVILLE, N.Y., February 13, 2019 – Responding to the demand from amateur and advanced amateur photographers for an entry-level, full-frame mirrorless camera, Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the second camera in the EOS R lineup, the EOS RP. The EOS RP is designed for photographers looking to step up from Canon’s APS-C cameras: the EOS Rebel, EOS M and the EOS 80D, into the world of full-frame mirrorless photography. Weighing in at just 17.29 ounces, the EOS RP camera is lighter than a 500ml bottle of water and smaller than Canon’s popular APS-C DSLR camera, the Canon EOS Rebel T7i, coming in at approximately 5.0in (w) x 3.77in (h) x 2.36in (d). With optics at its core, the EOS RP takes full advantage of the complete line up of RF lenses and is compatible with the existing...

EOS RP vs R vs M50 vs 1DX mk2

Hi, new guy here.

I got curious to see side by side the specs of these great cameras. The recent 3 mirrorless, and the king. To me it is amazing how the king stands up, after so much time. It gives me hope about the "lasting" of the gear.

Here is the chart, in a dropbox PDF:
http://bit.ly/EOSRPvsEOSRvsEOSM50vs1DXMk2

pd. I am no attaching it, so I can update it.

By no means, I am no expert, and the chart is the result of the info available, there are few things that stand out:
Every camera uses it's own battery type, so there we go, collecting batteries.
For the EOS RP, how Canon is being more specific of the need of RF lenses to achieve 4k -kindaish make sense-

I am wondering what the P stands for in the RP.

If there is something I can improve please let me know.

Thank you for your time.

Lightstand Recommendations for Strobes: C-Stands? Cheetah Stands? Etc?

HI all,

Surely but slowly, I"m trying to upgrade a bit.

I've got a couple of the Orlit 610 strobes...I'm buying some soft boxes for them with the Bowens mount, I'm thinking of trying a couple of sizes (medium to large) of maybe either GLOW or Cheetah...a couple of strip ones, maybe a beauty disk or para one.....

Anyway, right now, just thinking primarily indoors, but eventually I may try some outdoors.

What are good stands to get. I know I can't go too cheap, but I can't spend too much $$$ right now.

But I want something to steadily hold my strobes, and the modifiers without risk of falling over, etc.

Are these some good band for the buck C-Stands? Is this they way to go?

For portability, the Cheetah stands that fold when you pick them up look VERY handy...are they steady enough?

Any recommendations on one of these two, or something else? Brands and models to look at?

Links and your experiences GREATLY appreciated!!

Thank you in advance,

cayenne

Infographic: What Happened to the Camera Industry in 2018?

The folks at Lensvid have released their annual “What Happened to the Photography Industry in 2018?” infographic.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that camera and lens shipments continued to fall in 2018 by 24% and 7% respectively.
As far as camera sales splits go, DSLRs and mirrorless saw increases of share in 2018, at the expense of compact cameras. Mirrorless only saw a modest 100,000 unit increase in sales in 2018 compared to 2017, while DSLR shipments fell by about a million units.
I think we’re nearing the end of the slide and the industry will flatten out in the next year or two, even if Canon thinks we’re going to see a further 50% drop in the marketplace.
The EOS R, EOS RP, and all the new RF lenses should help with Canon’s sales numbers in 2019, but there doesn’t...

Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS STM Macro to be offered as an EOS RP kit lens in Japan

We get the feeling the Canon couldn’t get a true non L kit lens ready in time for the launch of the EOS RP. It appears the only kit lens option around most of the globe is going to be the RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, which is a great lens, but costs about $1100USD on its own.
The latest reports suggest that Japan will get the RF 35mm f/1.8 IS STM Macro as a kit lens option. This is a fantastic lens and will fit the diminutive EOS RP quite well as a great walkaround option.
We still wish something along the lines of an RF 24-70mm f/4 IS STM was being offered in a kit with the EOS RP, but maybe that’ll come at a later date.
