Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM to get that desired 1.4x built-in teleconverter?

The RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM has been rumored for quite some time, and with each passing month we get very little new information on the lens. The last time we reported on the lens, we mentioned that it could finally be announced in November, and with multiple people actively testing the lens, that timeline

"Change or Charge Battery" Error or Bug with Canon R5 Mark II

Went to a photo trip in Canadian Rockies, and multiple Canon R5 Mark II displayed "Change or Charge Battery" error message randomly, even when a fully charged LP-E6P batter was inserted. It looks more like a bug to me as the temperature threshold in the battery control chip must have been set up too conservatively. Anyway, will report this issue to Canon and see how they respond.

R5mk2 and Godox AD200Pro - Anyone Successful?

UPDATE: I got the menu to unlock by attaching an old Yongnuo 600EXRTII to my R5mk2. It immediately unlocked the settings window, and I was able to flip it over to HSS. When I swapped that with the X2T trigger, the menu was still available, and it was already in HSS.

Hi!

Has anyone successfully setup their R5mk2 to work with an AD200 Pro in high speed sync? Under "External Speedlight Control" I can't get "Flash function settings" to open at all, which if I remember correctly, is where I set it up for HSS. Clicking on this gives me, "this menu cannot be displayed. Incompatible flash or flash's power is turned off". It worked perfectly on my R6... At first I thought maybe it was a battery issue, because I have an LP-ECNH mixed into my battery grip with the new P battery, so I removed the grip and put the P battery in. But that' didn't help, so now I'm just kind of lost. I'm using the Godox X2T trigger, btw.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Interestingly, it seems like you still get some minor banding with the electronic shutter. I saw banding at 1/8000th, 1/4000th, but NOT at 1/1600. Same for electronic first curtain. No banding at all in fully mechanical, which is what I expected.

R5- Does anyone know where these style of serial numbers come from?

Does anyone recognise these kind of serial numbers? The camera EXIF data has a 12 digit serial number, but the sticker only has 6. The camera was bought from a trusted camera store second hand with 1000 on the shutter and in perfect condition. The camera works perfectly.

R5 Serial Number is missing some Digits

Tried to register my camera. Serial numbers not recognised. It's only 6 digits long. Does anyone else have a short number? My serial number is located on the bottom of the camera, on a sticker, black text on a silver background.
P.S. the exif data does have a 12 digit serial number. The camera was bought second hand with 1000 on the shutter. cameras in perfect condition, works great. shot a wedding with it, no dramas. Just so weird with this serial number.

Canon Eos R5 mark II livestream how to?

Hi, after preordering the mark II to the shop i'd bought my mark I, i'm the proud owner of a mark II (I resold the mark I to the shop) for less than a week.

I like how they change some buttons. It's heaven to switch between photo/video compared to the mark I.

I have questions regardent livestream option.
When i want to set it up via camera connect app i got an error message about HDMI. I thought you could livestream with phone and camera, without computer?

Does someone successufully set livestream option ? How to ?

Also do you know if you can both record video on card AND livestream at same time ?

Thanks for your help.

EOS R6 Mark II firmware 1.5.0 update

using the Canon app on my phone it told me there is a version 1.5.0 with this info. searching I see its from the Canon aisa site? but the phone app did download and installed.
Was posted 9/20/2024

Firmware Version 1.5.0 incorporates the following enhancements and fixes:
1. Enables functions to be used without limitation in conjunction with the new Battery Pack LP-E6P.
This makes it possible to shoot at the same continuous shooting speed as when using LP-E6NH.
In-camera charging of LP-E6P is also supported.
2. Adds [Protect Images] and [Rating] during FTP Transfer.
3. Adds support for the "Peripheral Coordinated Control". Peripheral Coordinated Control is now always performed when a compatible lens is attached (there is no need to set it on the menu screen).
* Peripheral Coordinated Control is a function that reduces changes in distortion around the periphery of the image caused by camera shake, which tends to occur with wide-angle lenses.
4. The following issues have been fixed.
4-1. Fixes an issue, in which when performing continuous shooting using the electronic shutter with both the [High-Frequency Anti-Flicker Shooting] and [OVF sim. view assist] options set to [On], Err 70 may occur.
4-2. Fixes an issue, in which when Wi-Fi is disconnected, Err 70 occurs.
4-3. Fixes an issue, in which when performing shooting in high-speed continuous shooting + mode with the [Highlight Tone Priority] option set to [ON], focus may not be achieved when certain ISO speed settings are used.

Canon EOS R7 v1.6.0 firmware

Hi,

Were anyone aware that there is a new firmware version 1.6.0 for the R7?

I connect my HP the the R7 today and was informed that there is a new firmware version, v1.6.0.

But when I tried to update the firmware, Canon camera connect kept saying firmware upload failed. Has anyone managed to update their R7 to this version?

When I search for the firmware in my country & US Canon website, it wasn't available. But a search on the web, it was listed in Canon Australia website; https://www.canon.co.nz/support/support-news/firmware-updates/eos-r7-firmware-version-1-6-0

Thanks.
Jason Lee

Our favourite “Dude” and photography lover Jeff Bridges and his company SilverBridges are going to be reviving the unique and very cool Widelux panoramic camera. Canon Purchase history and frequency

What is the longest you have gone without making a major Canon Purchase (body or lens)?

  • Less than 1 year (I have GAS)

    Votes: 1 11.1%
  • 1 to 3 years (I like the latest and great gadgets)

    Votes: 4 44.4%
  • More than 3 years (It like to save my cash)

    Votes: 4 44.4%

I was noting the recent post of availability of R5 II bodies at major US outlets and was thinking about how long it has been since I made a major purchase. For me, it seems Canon is in a major lull of products (bodies or lenses) that appeal to my use cases. I shoot primarily landscape with some wildlife thrown in. I have an R5 and many RF and EF lenses that I adapt for my use.

I was noting in my B&H profile that it has been over 3 years since I made a major Canon purchase (body or L lens). This is by far the longest period with no major purchases for me in the past 20+ years. I have had 5 Canon bodies in that time and over 20 lenses (mostly Canon L). I am actually shedding equipment in hopes of upgrading either my R5 or some of my older EF L lenses when equivalent replacements are released. Doesn’t look like that will happen anytime soon.

A new hybrid Speedlite is on the way

Canon's Speelite adventure has been a fun ride. As you probably know, the flagship Speedlite EL-1 was discontinued by Canon. There is no longer a flagship Speedlite in Canon lineup. For the people that needs the best of the best when it comes to Speedlites, Profoto is probably the one of the best brands out

Sports Photographer using R3 with the Canon EF 400MM 2.8II lens

Hello everyone, I was just curious if anyone is experiencing what I have noticed using this combination. The EF400 lens seems to lose focus when I really need it to lock in. I am shooting out of AF Case 4. I have noticed sometimes the lens takes a little longer to get into focus. I seems like a speed thing more then the R3 thing. Im wondering if the RF lens is quicker? Is the tech in the EF 400 lens that much older which affects the focusing. Once the image is locked in the camera and lens combo works like no other. Beautiful images! Does anyone have different settings that help? This may or may not have been discussed before. I apologize for wasting anyone's time.

Fuji x100vi

Hi all,

I am a long time cannon shooter / adobe user. I have been toying with the idea of getting a Fuji x100vi.

Do any of you have it? I have heard in the past that does not gel well with Lightroom. Is that still the case? Are you happy with the camera?

My main concern is that I don’t want it to be a gimmicky buy, that tries to be a film camera of days gone by.

Any hands on thoughts would be appreciated.

Blazar shows sneak peaks of Apex 1.33 Autofocus Anamorphic Lenses - Includes a Canon RF option!

I know what you are all thinking.
Did Canon come to an agreement with Blazar to use their mount? We're actually not sure. At least not from what I've seen personally.

Check out CineD's first look on their site and/or youtube

This honestly looks promising for those solo run and gun shooters trying to not only get cinema glass but as well as anamorphic flares and features.... oh and did we mention it's an autofocus option for video creators??

According to the video the lens comes in Canon RF, Sony E, Nikon Z, and FUJIFILM X mounts and now after further updates has added L Mount.
The only options to begin the set at the moment are 35mm and 50mm options with a 1.33x squeeze and both at T1.8

According to the video they were able to add more squeeze like characteristics using barrel distortion so it feels more than the 1.33x that it actually is.

If Canon really did come to an agreement with them here, this will be a huge game changer for some of us that want those beautiful anamorphic looks in their content without having to worry about Manual focus.

Canon recalls the Speedlite EL-5, because they can’t make flashes

Canon seems to have lost the ability to make speelites. The Speedlite EL-1 was recently discontinued and had been a trainwreck of availability for a long time. Now the Canon Speedlite EL-5 has been recalled. Do what I do, just buy Godox flashes. From Canon Japan Thank you for your continued patronage of Canon products.
