Got 2 bodies yesterday. There is a loud clutteing noise whenever the camera body is moved. Most likely is the IBIS but it really is loud as if a metal part is banging against another. The banging noise goes down when a lens is attached but never dies unless the camera is not touched for a while. Also, while shooting- a continuous hum is present likely form the same IBIS- pretty annoying and I guess it will ruin the audio-if video is recorded.

Both the cameras behaved identically.

Never noticed this noise with the original R 5 and I have 3 of them

Anybody else worried about it?

One of the many conversations that Craig and I have had was about tripods. As it turns out, I liked the leaver leg locks, and Craig liked the twist locks. So I thought it was rather amusing that Manfrotto released the Advanced travel tripod that offers your choice of leg locks.

About 4 years ago, Canon trolled me with a series of patent applications describing a handheld interchangeable lens camera attached to a handheld gimbal system. It appeared as if Canon was thinking about taking the EOS-M in a different direction.

In responding to another thread, I just noticed that there is now a huge gap in price points between the Canon R6 II at $1,999 and the R5 II at $4,299. The R5 Mk I is sitting at $2,999, but I doubt that is the long-term solution. The R6 III will likely come in around $2.5k, but that still leaves a sizable gap.

Either Canon believes that the overall market is splitting into two groups or something is coming to fill that gap.

My inital guess is an R6-s. 80-100 MP. They could use the same 12 fps mechanical shutter they are favoring: 12 fps x 80 = 960 MB/sec, 12 fps x 100 = 1,200, both lower than R5 II (45 x 30 = 1,350) and in line with the R1 (40 x 24 = 960). While I know some will want higher fps, but I am just basing the limitation on what we have seen from Canon to date. 12 fps is enough for a lot of instances, landscape for sure, and even wildlife from the 2010's (they were slower then ).

Any other thoughts on what Canon could release that would fill the gap between $2-2.5k and $4.3k?

Here are some images I have taken during 2 weeks in Italy, half in Tuscany and half on the Central Alps.
All was great apart from the temperature: it was too hot most of the times. Even at 3000 mt I just needed a t-shirt...
Shot with my R5 and 3 RF lenses: 85 1.2 (some portraits), 35 1.4 (misc shots) and 100-500 (macros, wildlife, panos)
A lot of images - the panos are huge so they have been downsied a lot.

Got the R5mk2 yesterday. My shop got 10 units so I would say Croatia got 20 units all together.
First impressions:
In video modes heavily dependent on the new battery which are currently hard to get.
The eye control af doesn’t seem to work vertically at all and horizontal not even close as it was working on R3 with my eye. Actually I used it successfully on the R3 even through polarised glasses.
Also it managed to freeze in 4k raw 50 when waking from standby mode. It happens 2 times and I had to turn off the camera to be able to use it. (First image)
8k50 raw with RF 24-70 /2.8 has this aura visible with all the lens corrections turned on in camera. It is not visible in 4K raw modes.
I didn’t notice it until I’ve put it in resolve. (Second image)
also the rubber hot shoe cap does not fit well on the original R5.
Video is nice, much cleaner image and lineskip modes seam a bit better than the one in the R5 (need more testing of that)
4k raw has some moire in some patterns, you can tell it is line skipped but it is nice and sharp. I would say it feels a bit artificially sharpen.
I hope the Biggs are just software problems and they will be fixed with the next firmware.

Get it while you can. B&H Photovideo has at the time of post, the Canon EOS R5 Mark II in stock. Stock may be very limited and it could go right back on backorder after the initial shipments are gone.

This year from Canon seems to be the year in which almost the entire full-frame lineup is refreshed. We have seen the R5 Mark II, R1, and later this year if rumors hold, the R6 Mark III. Outside of the R8, which was only released in early 2023, Canon mostly completed an entire system refresh of their full-frame cameras. Notably missing is the APS-C lineup, which is most likely the least competitive of Canon’s RF cameras.

In this patent application (2024-111453), Canon explores the super telephoto zooms that ended up with the Canon RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM. However, there are some other interesting designs in here worth exploring so let's go through them and you'll have to tell me if Canon should have gone for broke and made a 200-1000mm.

I bought a near NIB EOS 1Ds MkII on eBay with a very low shutter count. However the firmware was two or three versions behind the most current which I believe is 1.1.6.

1.1.6 allows the camera to recognize a media card larger than 8GB.

I was able to procure that firmware from another forum site.

Canon will at least keep owners manual for older DSLRs and Mirrorless so why not the last good firmware update for older DSLRs and Mirrorless?

Hello dear people of the Canon interwebs,

has anyone had the joy of comparing the ST-E 10 against ye olde ST-E3 RT? My new camera comes this week and I am contemplating a switch between these two models. As far as I can tell the main difference are those:

ST-10 vs ST-E3 RT - Main Differences (as far as I can tell)

• No batteries, powered by the camera
• No display, just two buttons
• Flash controls directly through the camera
• Substantially lighter
• Only works with the new hotshoe

Is there anything else I am missing here? Can I control the speedlites the same as on my ST-E3 RT? Or am I loosing functionality in that regard? Or am I better off just buying that damn backordered adapter (AD-E1 it‘s called, I think) and be done with it?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Good morning!
As I am in my late 80s and am no longer physically able to climb high mountains, I have started making more videos of animals in the last few months.
To get better sound, I want to buy two microphones, both of which have good wind protection and fit on the hot shoe on the camera.
One should have a lobe characteristic for selected birds, the other should also record the sound in the surrounding area.
My previous microphone (no name product) transmits the autofocus of the R5 extremely loudly.
Can you give me some advice?

With this poll, I am curious what other people are doing or thinking? Would you stick with the R5 M1? Are you upgrading to the R1 or R5 II? Or are other cameras in Canon's lineup getting good enough that when you need to upgrade, you will pivot to another direction? I've set this up for 2 answers. At this time, I am surprising myself, but I am strongly leaning toward canceling the pre-order.

The Pre-burst mode works when you half-press the shutter and then storage is actuated when you fully press. What I would like to know is when half-pressed does it continuously cycle, removing the oldest frame as the newest is added, or does it just stop, empty and you have to restart?
