lens belt?

Hi, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I do a lot of hiking and carry with me my t2I along with a 100-400, 24-70, and 100mm macro. All cannon lenses. I was wondering what the best belt or harness would be best for carrying the different lenses. I have a slingback but that doesn't really allow for quick changes. The 100-400 came with a nice belt case but I don't have anything for the other lenses. If I went with a lowe pro utility type belt would my canon case that I do have work with that or would I need the belt with 3 or 4 new cases to attach to it? Id appreciate any help!

New Ultrawide Zoom

There has been chatter about the possibilty of this lens since the day after Nikon announced their highly regarded 14-24 lens.

The latest is we’ll see this lens announced within the next 12 months. As always, nailing down lens announcement dates is near impossible with Canon. It was suggested that the EF 14-24 f/2.8L would be announced after the EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x begins shipping, suspected late in 2012 or the first half of 2013.

An EF 14-24 f/2.8L would complete a pretty remarkable range of lenses in the Canon lineup along with the EF 24-70 f/2.8L II, EF 70-200 f/2.8L II & the unannounced EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x.

Could it also be filterable (with a very large ring) for a circular polarizer?

A good review of the new Canon Rebel T4i

Help picking lenses for vacation!

Hey guys and gals! I was just wondering, my family is going on a vacation this summer to London, Paris and Venice. I would for sure bring my Canon 5D Mark II, but don't know what/how many lenses to bring. Seeing all the places are perfect photography spots. Should I carry around more than 1 lens? Also, I have currently, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM, Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L USM, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM and lastly Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM. Which ones should I bring :-[ Also, I saw the 8-15mm fisheye and quite liked it. Are there any owners here who would like to share their experiances with it? Would it be good to use on the trip? Thanks! :)

50mm 1.4 rear element broke?

I hardly use my 50mm 1.4 because I have the 1.2. I just keep it as a backup. My 1 year old daughter managed to pick it up while it was out of my bag and it dropped on the hard wood floor. When I picked it up I discovered the rear element had popped out. I pushed it back in and it snapped into place. After a short test the lens seems to be focusing and working just fine. Does anyone know if that the rear element is just pressed into place or when it fell did it break something I don't know about? I hate to rely on it one day and find out it is broken but I also hate to send it in if it is fine. Anyone know?

Which body is best to combat the primary color problem?

Hi everyone!
I use a 30D. It's a grand camera, definitely a great first DSLR, etc etc. As I've been with it for a while I've gotten accustomed to how it handles things, and one thing I notice is that shooting primary colors always turns out badly.

I figure that's due to the mosaic pattern of the sensor, giving 1/4 resolution for blue and red and 1/2 for green. Day to day it doesn't show up much, but at a party or concert you can see the lumpiness of the primaries even at a normal viewing size. Which new body handles this best? The best I can come up with is that this is when megapixels start to matter, since a higher resolution would make that quartering (or halving) of resolution more negligible. I've been thinking of new bodies for a while since I want to take video, but this is something that I've thought of before and is tough to find mention of online anywhere. What do you think?

Camera System

I know this is probably not the most unbiased forum to post such a question, but I will anyway to see what sort of response I get.

If you were not heavily invested in one brand (ie a 4yo rebel owner) and looking to upgrade your equipement and buy into a camera brand system of either Canon or Nikon, what would you buy into today. Lets say you had 5-6k to do it with.

I guess this post is directed more towards those who already shoot both Nikon and Canon and have extensive experience with both.

As far as typical useage of the equipment would be, 50% portrait/people, 20% landscape, 20% wildlife, 10% sports.

While I am familiar with the Canon brand, I have not used Nikon so I have nothing to compare my experience to. For those who do, what would you choose today knowing what you do now.

Lots of small things

The rumor mill has started to heat up as of late, most of the stuff seems pretty out there. However, stuff is appearing on other sites and in my inbox. I’m not sure how much of it is recycled speculation, but that does happen from time to time.

I’ll rate each bit of information on its own.

3 new DSLR bodies this summer [CR1]

A mention of 3 new EOS bodies before Photokina in September. Only one of them being a full frame camera. It was suggested that an “entry level” full frame camera wouldn’t be announced and it would be an upper level EOS-1D style camera.

7D Mark II to be full frame? [CR1]

I’ve seen this in my inbox a few times, and it has shown up on [cw]. I’ve never really believed this one, I don’t think they can call it “7D Mark II” and change the sensor size from a marketing perspective. There are lots of EF-S lenses in the hands of 7D owners.

I have no doubt there will be a full frame camera under the 5D Mark III, but it can’t have all the prosumer features of the 7D to retain the moniker and stay around $2000. That just doesn’t seem like smart marketing. But hey, I’m not in marketing. :)

Canon EOS 70D [CR1]

More mentions of the 70D moving up the ranks in the APS-C realm and becoming the flagship APS-C camera. We’ve heard similar things and think it’s entirely plausible.

Adobe Photoshop CS6 Review

We have posted Ben Long’s review of the Adobe’s latest version of Photoshop, Read it here.

Nikon D600

The speculated “entry level” full frame Nikon D600 looks to be quite real. Check the photo evidence here.

Is the 5DIII the New 50D?

Okay, I know this is sure to be controversial, but what the heck.

The differences between the 5DIII and the D800 have been the subject of endless debate on this forum. Now, Nikon seems poised to release a well-equipped D600 at a remarkably low price point if the rumors are true.

The 5DIII reminds me a bit of the 50D. The 50D was a great camera, but kind of a sales flop. It came out just as video was being introduced into DSLRs, but it had no video. Most 40D owners did not choose to update (instead waiting for a 60D that turned out to be the 7D...well I won't get into all that again).

Anyway the point being that there was nothing wrong with the 50D, but that a series of missteps, bad luck and poor timing combined to hurt the camera's sales.

I wonder if something similar is happening with the 5DIII. By all accounts, it is a great camera and seems to be very popular among its target audience: wedding and event photographers. But, will Canon be able to sustain 5DIII sales over the next three to four years? Is it $500 better than the D800? Or, is the D800 actually a slightly better camera at a lower price point? And, will sales fall if Nikon releases an entry-level full frame camera and Canon is forced to respond.

Now, before the Canon lovers and the Canon haters all go ballistic, keep in mind I'm not suggesting this means Canon is stupid or getting any part of its anatomy kicked or anything of the sort. In fact, making mistakes and learning from those mistakes are what makes a great company great. I'm just talking about one model in an entire lineup and suggesting that when we look back four or five years from now, I wonder if the 5DIII will be viewed as great camera that suffered from a series of unfortunate events.

Need help - advice for event photography, urgent

Hello,

Situation:

My company is throwing an event tomorrow evening (indoors, ~50-80 people). As one of my colleagues has been doing photography as a serious hobby for the past 20 years, he was going to do it, but, as you can guess, he had to cancel. And he recommended me instead.... (Because they wouldn't find a proper photographer on such a short notice, or probably don't want to pay him, i don't know...)

It wont be a world class event, but still, there will be speeches, awards etc. so some nice pictures will still need to be taken. And I am quite worried but excited to do this too:)
(And I have to do this, because as they told me, its either me, or no photographer - so I should feel no pressure at all:D)

The reason I don't feel fully confident, is not that I just got in into photography (got my Canon 60D just a couple of months ago, 5000+ photos so far). But most of all, that I don't have a fast lens or a flash.... All I've got is 15-85 and 5 pound diffuser on my built in flash... (Sigma 30mm F1.4 was next in my wishlist, but a bit later on)

So my questions to you:
Having just Canon 60D and 15-85 with no flash, what is the best way to get some decent pictures indoors?
What pictures to take?
What not to miss?
What to look out for?
Can I use ISO 6400 or should I limit myself to max 3200?
Can I use inbuilt flash at all? does that diffuser help? (I've used it for my personal shots, and it does seem to soften shadows on the face a bit..)
Aperture priority or manual?

Thank you for all your help.
And even if event isn't huge as such, it is huge for me, and I want to do my best, because I've never photographed anything official yet

P.S. Kit: Canon 60D, 15-85, F3.5-5.6, flash diffuser which goes on top of the built in flash, 2 batteries, 40GB+ of SD cards. Going to shoot in RAW, then process in LR, just in case i mess up a lot:)

P.P.S. I know my camera and gear quite good, I'm just not sure how it will cope in low light situation - thats my biggest fear

P.P.P.S. I cannot use other person's gear, because its Nikon, and I wont have time to rent a new lens, 15-85 is all I've got... (and I'm not sure i would know how to use external flash to the fullest extent, if I rented it - never used it before)

P.P.P.P.S. But I am excited about this, as well:)

Anyone heard of this problem before???

For some time now, my camera (450D), intermittently decides it does not want to start. It is never permanently, lasts for about 30-60sec then decides it has finished its little tantrum and wants to play again… It does not appear to be a battery problem as I have interchanged batteries and still won’t start. It also has happened in normal and aberrant conditions (cold/hot) alike.
It is 3 years old and only has about 140k actuations (shutter still works fine)…
So, just wondered if anyone else has come across this kind of thing? And if so, any advice?
Don’t know if I can be bothered to send it off to Canon as it has not exactly been a big problem yet, but I know that if a miss a great shot because of it, I would be a little sad! Time for its retirement?

Thanks,

John

Real world impact of 5d3/1dx af system with slower apertures than f4?

What's the real world impact of using aperture lenses of slower than f4 for portrait shooting or edge af on the 5d3/1dx? This really bugs me is that I have this 70-300L/4-5.6 around, and it seems even my 60d's edge af is "better" for this lens because all the outer points on the 5d3 will be only horizontal if I zoom in more than 100mm and the aperture goes beyond f4...
