Canon plans to develop more lenses that no one has done before

Canon 135/1.0DS

The goal is to have perfectly round highlights all the way to the corners at f/1.4, that additionally have the DS "spherical" filter on them.

Mechanically this isn't an impossible ask. The front element would be about the size of the 400/2.8 or 600/4.0 or even famous Nikon 300/2, more or less. At full aperture, there would be some mechanical vignetting, but at f/1.4 that would be eliminated.

Photographically this wouldn't be overkill. The DS filter would cut about 1/2 the light, giving it an effective blur of about 135 f/2.0 when used at f/1.4 with the DS filter.

Apertures great than f/1.4 (1.0, 1.1, 1.2) wouldn't have spherical highlights to the corners of a FF sensor but would for selected smaller sizes.

I picture a slot on the bottom to insert the DS filter that would include the required aperture. It'd be similar to the plug-in polarizer slot on a 600/4, though far bigger, and for weather-proofing and dust avoidance, most likely open on the bottom of the lens.

In addition to this slot there would be a normal aperture diaphragm for use down to say f/11 or f/16. This isn't a general purpose 135mm lens, though, and doesn't need to be capable of smaller apertures.

The result would be a lens whose images could be picked out of a lineup even at thumbnail sizes by those who knew what to look for.

Long time reader, first time poster, here we go....

RF 18-24 f/2.8 IS (non-L)

After traveling to some European cities the past couple summers, I would love something small/light that I can shoot interiors of cathedrals or architectural street photography and leave my RF 15-35 L at home. I love that lens, but it's quite a commitment (on multiple levels).
Just get a 14-35 already. Yes, it's one stop slower. No, you won't regret that.

It really says something about Canon's control over their new products that we are only 24 hours ahead of such a major release and we still don't have a leaked image of the R5 II, not even a more definitive spec leak beyond what has been circulating for the better part of 9 months.

Even the R1 leaks have been limited to the one time deliberate leak from the Formula One event, where the guy was basically showing it off.

Oh well, It's only 1 more day.

I don't think it'll be astro lenses (UWA, fast). Canon hasn't shown too much interest in correcting coma and astigmatism on their ultrawides.
Maybe the rumor relates to tilt-shift lenses. There's been talk of AF and such.
I'm thinking this could be a fast and zooming portrait lens: 50-135/2 or perhaps even 50-135/1.8

yes it's a sad state of affairs.

I know its not a halo lens but the APC camera line is getting hammered in the press for not having enough RF-s lenses. And we don't even have a zoom that goes to 24mm equivalent, so a 15-? mm zoom lens would be so very welcome for all the rest of us that can't afford the F1.2 lenses

Then Canon can make a bunch of fancy lenses that almost no-one will buy! ;)

I presume when they said it hasn't been doing before that it was more "worlds first" projects and not "we at canon have just been lazy and never did this, first" kind of lens.

a 15-45mm F2.0 IS STM Z would be nice but would you pay the premium for it?

i think the "worlds first" projects are much more fun to think about, and bring the possibility of creating photography that is not common. anything that helps our photography standout is a plus. would be cool to develop a recognizable "style"...

it's literally not even a rumor....

It was a direct interview with the team that designed the 24-105 F2.8L IS USM Z!

what more would you like? signed and witnessed statements or something?
official lens roadmap would be lovely :)

That said, the comment from Canon is a deliberate "tell us your fantasy lens".... but we really still come back to "match the competition at a reasonable cost".

Without the heavy vignetting, the RF 15-35 f2.8 would've been a great astro/landscape replacement for the EF lenses. But there are reports of up to 5 stops of vignetting and that is what prevented me from upgrading my EF 16-35 f4. It seems to be a pretty good lens overall - just not convincing enough as an upgrade from the EF 16-35.

Well, i'm not sure if Canon wanted the input, the interviewer asked them and they responded. since they aren't CEO's they can say more. That being said, a lens that hasn't been done before could mean a lot of different things.
