The SX720 is obviously a travel camera, but why no GPS. Sony had it for ages.
Seems like Canon not only has an issue with sensors, but also with its circuitry/battery drain, that's the only reason I can fathom that they avoid GPS. Maybe that's why Canon also doesn't do in camera panorama like Sony, extra drain on the battery?

No GPS seems only a small point, but it makes Canon less competitive. On top, a useful tool for annotating missing GPS data, Picasa has been pulled by Google (since they focus now on smartphone images that are automatically tagged).

Why are they introducing the DIGIC 7 processor in a powershot and not in the new DSLRs?

Same reason nearly every camera comes with at least one new feature not seen in any others. Canon are skilled fisherman. Its not all about trickle down technology. Trickle up has its place in the sales game.

Touch screen was first seen in an entry level mirrorless, right? And dual pixel AF was also first seen in a mainstream consumer DSLR. that's just two examples. These features are now in Canon's flag ship camera.

To be the market leader you have to be smart about every move, even if the tiny percentage of photographers on forum like to gripe about the wisdom of Canon's measured approach to mot everything and ignore all the grand slams Canon is also known for. R&D is much more relaxed and well executed when you can release features when they are truly ready, and not have to rush them for something high end, or sit on the tech forever until another high end camera is ready. You have so consider there are many pipelines going at once, and they are not all on the same time table.

Even in regards to their 1" sensor cams... They are superior to the Sony versions in nearly evey way, and at a fraction of the price, yet a small but vocal percentage ignore that and are hung up on complaining Sony made one first. How is Canon making better cameras at a fraction of the price if not through smarter execution?
