Sony does have 2 pretty great consumer versions of the X-70, one of which the CX900 is doing only 1080p but overall really great. I wonder if Canon offers only semi-pro versions or will handle it in a similar way to Sony.

I was saving pennies to eventually buy a CX900. Have you used it before?

Am using 2 canon vixia m series and am lusting after a 1 inch sensor camcorder.

I wish Canon had a offering in the vixia lineup that was larger than the 1/3 sensor.

When I heard the first rumors about this camera a few weeks ago, my thoughts were that we would see something similar to the X-70 and I'm really glad that this is the case. So far people seem to like the X-70 because it has the form factor of a small sensor prosumer camera but it has a relatively large 1" sensor and can give you a shallow depth of field when zoomed in a little bit.

However, it is still very surprising that you will be able to get a very nice 4K camera for less money than the more expensive C100 Mk II which does not do 4K. What I'm hoping is that Canon will add 4K recording to the C100 Mk II (either internally or externally). They would probably do this through a paid upgrade like what they did with the Dual Pixel Autofocus upgrade this past spring. I think that would make sense because they would make money from the upgrades and we would finally get a large sensor, interchangeable lens 4K camera for less than $10K.

This could be interesting, a small go-anywhere amateur looking camera.

The Sony is shown to have a = FF 29-348mm lens. This is way too long for my use. A wide end of 18mm would be much better for guerrilla film making. Think shooting in crowded public spaces like a bus/subway, without calling attention to yourself (NO permit).

It sounds like an AX100 clone (Sony have a range of these, from low end pro down to mid level consumer, all based around the same lens/electronics).

It would not surprise me if they got the sensor from Sony as well. These days it seems that if Canon wants to keep up with the pack, they have to use their competitors hand-me-downs.
