Comparison for those who are interested, shots of a Little Owl very far away with the 800/11 (top) vs 100-500mm + 2xTC (bottom) on R5. Image of owl only 500 px high so looking at the extremes. It was a good day with the 800/11 on the R5 for Shorteared Owls in flight. They were far away and predictable in flight so I could manage the 800mm fov and the slightly slower AF. Best ones I've ever got of them - the 800/11 is a decent piece of kit.
