Today the shutter suddenly hangs in Av and Tv mode. When pressing the shutter it stays open until pressed again. Has anybody a good idea why this happens. Shooting in live mode is OK and also in Automatic mode.
Have tried to reinstall firmware and taken the batery out with no luck.

Sounds like you have mirror lock-up enabled (it's not the shutter staying open, it's the mirror). Check C.Fn III-13, setting it to Disable should return you to normal function.

MLU is useful for tripod shooting with remote/timer release, to reduce vibration from the mirror slap (but Live View is even better in that situation).

With ANY camera... if it starts doing strange things or acting in a way other than you think it should, the first step should be to return the camera to factory default settings.

With so many options availiable and so many modes, the odds of screwing up or setting something wrong are quite high.

Its a good idea to understand what the settings do before turning them on.

:-> btw: With Magic Lantern there's an option to enable mlu on self-timer only and a feature (if you want it) for "handheld mlu" - the camera releases the shutter after a very short time, but long enough to take away some shake from pressing the shutter button by hand.

With Focal, save your settings before starting a test. Then you have a backup and can restore from the backup if it crashes.
