BIRD IN FLIGHT ONLY -- share your BIF photos here

Following on from @becceric's comment, which of the three shots of the Kestrel do people think is the best? (Taken this morning with the R5ii and RF 200-800mm).

I prefer the first one: the bird grabs my eyes and keeps them. On the last one my eyes are jumping between the bird and the messy background.

The primary issue with an angle grinder is holding both the lens and the angle grinder in precise positions. Torque makes the angle grinder want to move around. Holding it in only one hand while holding the lens in the other hand can be a recipe for disaster.
You put the lens in a vise. :devilish:

Just joking around....

Canon EOS C50 Review: Almost the Perfect 7K Cinema Rig

Yes, I regards of 3rd party camera controls - Canon needs to do better. For now I am still not sure whether to give the C50 a chance or not. My R5C is still my number one tool for weddings.
I’ve used both and while the C50 is amazing, if I were shooting weddings I’d rather have the form factor and EVF + better/bigger screen of the R5C. I’d also trust the weather sealing more.

You’re not missing anything sticking with the R5C, and being able to lean in and see the image through the viewfinder is essential for critical moments like at weddings.

What We Expect Canon to Announce in the Coming Months

Changing the magnification affects the corners and edges the most, but it affects every point in the frame except the exact center to one degree or another. So does moving the entire camera and lens towards/away from the subject.
It still yields useful results. Otherwise focus rails would be pointless.

Female Northern Cardinal at the Magic hour while grilling mahi mahi (ISv I thought of you after viewing some of the aerial photos over Oahu)

Mahi mahi is very good grilled! Especially when grilled immediately after the catch - I had that experience only once...

In order to prevent filters from getting stuck, I often use a dry lubricant, like teflon, applied with a very fine paintbrush. And buy high quality filters, like B&W, whose threads are well machined and deburred.

The filter in Savage's video is a B+W with the glass completely shattered by a drop and removed.

To be fair, you can use the MP-E as if it had manual focus, if you change the magnification without movivg the camera the focal plane will move, and eg focus stacks can be obtained that way (but it has its drawbacks around the edges of the frame).

I was gonna suggest an angle grinder :devilish:
But a very big one with a 230mm disk, filter mounts are extremely hard. And they can be dangerous if they are only wounded! 😵‍💫

I also suspect IBIS helps out but have no way to prove it. I shoot everything handheld. I'm pretty good at it. Extensive experience with target shooting no doubt helps. With DSLRs, I often practiced by taking a long, heavy lens, turn IS off and using a single focus point, try holding it steady. It's tough. Also, I see a lot of photographers move the entire camera (usually down and/or away) when pushing the shutter. Concentrating on keeping the camera steady is worthwhile. I could shoot the 135 at 1/30 and get a decent hit rate. It helps that it is short, light and well balanced.

Back in my younger days I used to get mostly good results shooting at 1/15 with an EF 50mm f/1.8 II and 400 speed film when I had to.

These days I'll sometime push it to 1/100 at f/2.2 and ISO 3200-6400 when needed with the 135mm. Obviously those use cases would have been impossible without a flash with color film.

Canon EOS R7 Mark II Rumored Specifications Round-up

If R10 mkII came out alongside R7 mkII, then R7 is basically dead and it's what inventory strategies looks like.
That's a good point, I'd be interested to see the price of the R7 once the R7 ii gets released. If they do keep the original R7 at a discount for a while then I wonder if they will also discount the R10 to keep a good difference between the prices?

Canon EOS R7 Mark II Rumored Specifications Round-up

It is entirely likely that Canon/retailers will continue to sell new R7 in parallel with R7ii for some time to come.
The R7 price will go to a new lower price point and given the Ritz's big feature (and price) difference then the R7 could be selling for a long time to come.
The R5 is still on sale and it has been >18 months now since R5ii release. I don't see a good reason for Canon to stop selling the R5 for a long time to come. B&H are still selling A7v and iv and iii new at ~USD500 difference between each

It's a good idea to look both ways before taking off, it helps prevent collisions. :) Nice shots, ISv.
Off course you are right. I did say "rain" but didn't say what kind of rain :)! For 23 years on Oahu I haven't seen anything like that!
I'm pretty sure some points of the Island are still not accessible... The damage so far is evaluated as 1 billion (so far). Here is a link to get some imagination:
