R5, R6 or wait for a possible R5S?

Can you elaborate what you think the disadvantages of high resolution images for stitching are? Is it just about processing times?
Well for me anyway stitching allows me to use a longer focal length lens which should give a more corrected (flatter) individual image and more detail per image. The balance to work out being the number of initial images, individual image size and what the final fov I want for a particular final photo. If I use a really high res sensor and do the same as above the files would be huge and as you say processing times big although that doesn't bother me too much. So for a given focal length you could use less images and get the same detail but that would mean using a wider lens, not good for stitching. Either way huge files and processing times with no real final benefit or similar size files and processing times but more problamatic stitching.
I should say though that all panos I do are only for printing no other use case. I'm not into the giga pano zoom in crazy amounts stuff. If you're really into that which for me is more about tech and science then yes more is better (focal length and high res)

R5/R6 Servo AF Cases...Tweaks?

Within a few weeks of the EOS R being released, we had some good, helpful suggestions for Customizing AF tracking sensitivity, acceleration/deceleration, and point auto switching. I'm not finding anything specific about this for the R5/R6 yet, but I might be missing some good links.

What experience and advice might CR members share about these options for the R5/R6? Do the 4 cases plus Auto meet most uses in the real world?

Any other AF setting tips?

Thanks!

Why can't the R6 be used while it's being charged via USB

Overheating is likely the reason. The battery warms up while charging so it would add to the heat load already there. I use a case relay which includes a DC-DC converter. That allows it to be operated from a 5V USB source like a USB Battery or a 5v USB Adapter. It also removes one heat source from the camera. Batteries tend to get warm while being used. They don't heat up a lot but with mirrorless cameras that run all the time, there is heat.

It has a small rechargable battery in it which allows you to replace a USB battery without stopping camera operation. I bought mine to make sure my Camera would operate during the entire time of the solar eclipse. I had a velcro strap that was used to attach my USB battery to a tripod leg. It worked fine for that. I can also use a DC adapter to power my camera continuously where AC power is available.

There are Chinese knock offs, I'm not sure I'd want to trust one.

Mine has powered several of my different cameras. All that is needed is a battery coupler for the particular camera. I have a LP-E6 coupler plus a LP-E17 that I've used. I have yet to try it on my R5 but it works fine with my R. You can get couplers for many different types of cameras, Nikon, Sony, Canon, Olympus, Panasonic, and Fujifilm. Some brands have multiple couplers available that replace different battery types.

Industry News: DJI announces the DJI Pocket 2

Isn't that the perfect dedicated vlogger device? Since that type of product exists, whats the point of sony ZV-1 and the likes?
The specs say that DJI Pocket 2 also has hybrid autofocus but I can't imagine that it is on par with Sony.
ZV-1 also has a sensor twice as big.
On the other hand, the ZV-1 lens is no way near wide enough.
Pocket 2 comes with a 20 mm full-frame equivalent lens and the Creators Kit has an add-on 15 mm FF EQ lens so it is much better for filming yourself and the surroundings handheld.
You can also put it down and have it track you.

R5 Review by DPReview

91% score

"
Conclusion
The Canon EOS R5 is well-suited for just about any type of photographer, whether you shoot portraits, events, weddings, sports, family gatherings, and more. We've felt a bit let down by Canon's promises of the camera's outright video capability, but for most users, it's still a great option for getting good-quality video clips of almost anything you point it at. Power users that need the best video quality all the time won't be a good fit, but otherwise the EOS R5 is a fantastic option for almost anyone looking for a quality full-frame high-resolution mirrorless camera."

The reshaping of the Cinema EOS line will continue into 2021, there is a Cinema EOS C90 in the pipeline [CR2]

I keep saying this (but add at least mini xlr inputs) but I thought I was the only one that wants this.
Any Canon camera with a C at the front of it's name should have some flavor of XLR.

Perhaps it's better that they let us know what's coming, so you don't regret buy. C90 could be identical to the C70 body, but FF, to counter the fx6.
A road map like Nikon does would be so awesome. This stuff is bank breaking expensive and wrong choices can kill your company. If you buy a lens that works for S-35 today will Canon still be in the S-35 business next year or do you have to massivly over buy all large format lens you may never actually need. Will Canon suddenly release a medium format sensor and in 5 years drop all their full frame sensors forcing every one to start over again? Canon dropping their largest stills user base the crop buyers with out a word of warning was a real dick move and cost me thousands. Combine that with their flat out lies about their cameras capabilities and Canon has lost my trust.

DJI’s Ronin Series Grows Stronger, Lighter, and Smarter with New DJI RS 2 and RSC 2 Gimbals

So, I ordered the new RS 2 within 30 minutes to an hour of seeing it last Wednesday. Forked out the extra $15 for delivery last Friday instead of tomorrow(because I head out of town at Oh God thirty for a shoot for several days). B&H dropped that ball, as they have been doing a lot lately, and didn’t ship it until Friday when I was supposed to receive it. So that pushed the delivery date to Monday. But then it was FedEx’s turn to drop the ball. After not receiving it by late afternoon, I tracked it and they had delivered it to the wrong address. So, I finally received it today. And I got to play around with it for about 10 minutes before I broke the damn USB port on my 5DIV(That I’ve had since launch day in ‘16 with out any problems). Somebody REALLY does not want me to have this thing.

But from the little bit I have messed with it, it feels nicer and more balanced in the hand plus it is much lighter(over 1 lb less). The locks are also a MUCH needed and appreciated upgrade/addition. You can balance the payload a lot quicker. I wish they would have put knobs to adjust the balance on all the axes, but the single one on the camera plate to adjust the tilt still helps a lot. As does the quick release of the camera from the balance plate. That’s going to come in VERY handy. The one bad thing I do have to say, considering the limited time I’ve had with it so far, the documentation/instructions for the RavenEye is pretty much non-existent. Even the printed booklet for The RavenEye that comes with it, doesn’t tell you anything.

I’m not really going to get to use it until I get back this weekend and then not to it’s fullest until after I get my 5DIV repaired. Even with my CPS discount, it’s going to be in at least the mid-$300’s or higher, for the repair(Estimate was well into the $400’s not counting the CPS discount). Definitely wasn’t planning on that one...

A bit more about the rumored EOS R for video [CR1]

As far as a nuclear reactor goes, I'll take your word for it as I don't think Canon will be adding one of those to their bodies just yet. ;)

I got the sense that the two of you were actually saying the same thing, and Michael didn't realize it.

Just wait until the 16K sensor @240 fps, with the downsampled 8K mode added on as an extra. LP-U235N battery (which won't need recharging for fifty years) and the body will have one of those white cooling towers, to boot.

Could EOS M & RF Co-exist?

I used the m50 update as a sign of how seriously Canon is taking the M line.
I don't think even Canon expected the original M50 to perform as well as it did. From the sales, it appears they hit a sweet spot with that camera. Especially in its current price bracket. So in putting only small upgrades into the successor, but lowering its launch price significantly, they are going with a conservative upgrade that may allow them to maintain a nice profit margin and probably introduce future rebates.

They may end up erring on the side of caution here, but in the other hand - what's the worth of a cash cow if you can't milk it?

I don't think the M50 line was ever going to be a good indicator for the future of EF-M. The market segment interested in that camera evidently is just fine with the current lens lineup and ecosystem.

What really means something is the higher end. Is an M5 II coming? An M7? Are they actually meant to absorb a part of the EF-S market? If so, where are the lenses that express this intent?

Iphone 12 Pro Max larger sensor

No. The 12 Max sensor is 47% larger than the 12 Pro sensor, that is less than half a stop difference. Even Apple only claim 87% better 'light gathering' over the 11 for the 12 Max.

Phones have come on in leaps and bounds over the years but it tends to be generational, the 12 Max undoubtedly has a 'better' camera than the 12 Pro, but there is less than a stop of difference, the same pixel numbers and the same lens (main) lens.

Patent: Various RF mount zoom lenses, including an APS-C RF mount design

Some good points you made there. I still hope there will be an APS-C body. I remember a rumor of an Aps-C R body in the second half of 2021. If there will be no APS-C R body then I think I have to go for a M7. I hope that Canon at some point will push more effort towards high quality lenses for this system. And hopefully some third party like Sigma will keep making new lenses for EF-M. I wonder if the M7 as a flagship would be a slightly bigger body as well. If its a little bit bigger than my 200d, I would be happy. Hopefully we will see IBIS in the M7 as well..

What I don't like is the stories about killing the M line or something like keep selling the current bodies with kit lenses without any effort for new lenses. That would be appealing about an Aps c R body as this line seems to get all the R&D especially with lenses. The idea that I buy a nice camera in a dead system bothers me.
At this point, the rumors swing both ways, to some extent colored by the bias of the rumor reporter. Canon is clearly putting their primary effort into the R line right now, which makes sense given the drop in the low end of the market. I do think one of the reasons we haven't seen a replacement yet for the M5 is power related. Clearly the DigicX has a lot more processing power per watt than the Digic8, but it may still be marginal in a full featured M body. However, given that the 8k feature would not be there, I suspect that an undervolted DigicX would be within an acceptable power budget, so we may be just looking at the time needed to stabilize yields and get enough volume in hand to address the M7 market (which I think would be quite large). There may also be a new sensor in development to address the now desired higher read speeds (as you pointed out above, the 90D doesn't do 4k/60), and the M7 may also be waiting on a couple of lenses to make it more attractive to the enthusiast market. All speculation, of course, but based on pretty straightforward reasoning. If the M7 is to functionally replace the 7D II, then it also should have a battery grip available both for longer battery life and to balance bigger lenses. My gut says we will get the answer within the next 6 months. In the meantime, enjoy your 7D II :).

Revisiting the Canon Cinema EOS C50 and what it could be

8-bit and clog 2/3. Nah. How are you ever going to pull a decent grade from that? All the competitors are doing 10-bit now. 8-Bit and no RAW can't be right. That is not a C line camera.
If C70 is a smaller C300 without RAW then those C50 specs would be a C200 without RAW.
8 bit would not interest me but there are plenty of people that use C200s and never shoot RAW.
If it is cheap enough then it will sell.

Canon Speedlite EL-1 information leaks out ahead of the official announcement

Heat exchangers in Nuclear reactors use heavy water to remove heat from core to external cooling ponds unlike have a fan recirculating heat in completely enclosed environment.

Or they use open chilling towers to cool the clean water. The point is, the dirty water is in a sealed system and the clean water is not, yet the heat in the dirty water is moved to the clean water through a heat exchanger that does not mix the two fluids. The interior of the camera that contains everything else can be sealed off from the interior part of the camera that uses some form of fan and vents to force heat out of the system.
