The prices were so good, it was almost painful not to buy another one. But I have one EOS R, and dough saved for the next models to be released.

You can see that all have their own disadvantages, either the size or the optical quality or the IS system itself.

So yes, they have waited until they could do one for the new mount, that is not too big while also being optically better than the EF 24-70 2.8 II
All the other FF mirrorless competitors (Nikon, Panasonic, Sigma, Sony) have decided to leave out IS from their 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses and rely on IBIS instead, which suggests that it isn't easy to do.

It can be a PITA in bright morning/afternoon light.

Two months ago I emailed Hoodman USA and they said it is not practical to make an eyecup because removing factory cup is too hard for most customers.

My main rig is 1DX MKII and 500F4 (II) for BIF/Low light or a 5DIV with that or one of my other lenses for better light, perched, less "actiony" shots. The resolution of the 5DIV a bit faster (10FPS would do) and better AF, & solid build quality is my specificaiton for a grail Bird/Wild Life body, presuming a step up in ISO performance.

No way is APS-C dead. The M lines are thriving and meet a need that no FF camera can fill.

if you look at what Canon sells, you see tiny bodies and lots of F6.3 lenses. Small and low cost! It does not matter what Canon does with their FF cameras, mirrorless or mirrored, they will never be that small, nor that low cost.

as far as rebels and XXD cameras go, they are getting sandwiched between the two lines... I doubt that any of us (or even Canon) knows.... it will all depend on sales and profit. If they are profitable they will continue. If not, expect the, to slowly die out

You might need to try and sway me as to why cost and tech trumps art and know how. Look, the argument for a first time or replacement due to loss/theft is different than the replacement for upgrade/GAS. I was commenting on how so many folks spend endless amounts of energy on specs and arguments thereof and act as if once a new model arrives the old model ceases to work. It's tiresome. So your car analogy? It doesn't work for my angle.

IMO the slow readout and rolling shutter make the R unsuitable for most of my gimbal work. It's a great body for V-Log and tripod based "talking head" video but if you are doing quick pans or shooting moving subjects the rolling shutter can be pretty obvious. The 1DX2 and X-T3 have much faster sensors. Their measured rolling shutters are anywhere from 2-4 times faster than the R and they both do 4K60P which is handy to have on a gimbal. It also doesn't hurt that can get an X-T3 and the excellent 18-55 kit lens for less than what you'd pay for just the R body.

The R is evolving into a pretty good video cam but it's not the best tool for every job.

The ability to use tracking AF/Face/Eye recognition with the R is a big advantage over the 1DX2 but I'd still go with a IDX2 on a gimbal if I had to chose between them.

I had no idea Metabones was working on this. I probably won't buy one because I don't do much video (and I'm never in APS-C mode shooting stills - why not make a medium format lens speedbooster to use on 35mm sensors, instead?) but the performance isn't that bad outside some apparent softness at when viewed at 500% (see 09:49).

Not that I have delved into. I regularly spend months away from my printers and unplug them so they can't do self maintenance, I do this because of lightening strikes which are very common where I live.

I've done the same thing, but mostly in reverse (had set an ISO, but inadvertently tapped it into Auto). Super confusing until I figured out what I was touching. I haven't tried Fv yet, but it does seem interesting.

2019 and almost 2020 yet my trinity like this thread is still kind of dated.

But you are correct. Pop corn it is. As there is no point to argue here. I was not aware, overlooked Canon released images of the camera. I would not comment otherwise. And I apologised for being incorrect.Why Michael is keep pressing his point is beyond my understanding.

considering current market conditions and commercial wars for market domination between C and S, a7R IV being priced $3,499.00. etc.
Canon may consider bringing the Rs to market at a little bit better than that price. not by much, but...

I had been grumbling about the look of the basic adapter. Why doesn't it match the body's metallic ring like the RF lenses do? I grant it's a challenge to make an adapter look right for generations of different lenses but I found this inexcusable. Then, Santa put a control ring adapter in my stocking, and I realized that Canon did it right on all but the basic model.

Here's how it looks with a WIDE price range of lenses (factor of 100, literally). I'm still wishing for a white one they can produce to seve the big white market and make us R users feel like they are m,aking pro lenses for us.

No direct experience, but Tamron didn't update the firmware on all their lenses to support recent Canon cameras. Sounds like the 70-300 is one of those.

If your interest is the R I would NOT buy an EF mount body. It seems like you are considering this or perhaps I misunderstood your question.

Just wanted to compliment you on your Canon News site, it rocks and I find myself on it quite often. Thanks for putting it out there.

For all those still using an EOS 5D Mark II camera the following information:

I received an e-mail from Canon Germany that the official time for the service lifespan of this model will end this year. (after 7 years)
Servicing and spare parts will no longer be available for it at Canon Service Centers (at least in Germany).
If you need servicing or spare parts, you will have to contact your service partner first.

Been thinking of doing the same for the add-on grip (non OEM) for the EOS R. The battery door gets transplanted to the bottom of the grip, breaking the overall seal. So I'll just add some foam around the opening on the body side of the grip, and below the battery door on the bottom of the grip, like what the OP did.

I'm also really hoping for this. My 40mm is my favorite prime. It made my 6D almost feel like a pocket camera. It's still small with the RF adapter on my R, but I'm really looking forward for the consumer level non-IS primes to start being released.

Somebody has way too much leisure time.

It would be nice if Canon would make an RF 70-200 F4L. I'm sure they will at some point. Honestly IS is nice but I don't need it, especially not for an extra $500. I've always managed to get laser sharp focus out of my non IS 70-200. I have to balance my budget for other toys, otherwise I'd get the best of the best!
