Since Latest Firmware Update 1.3

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue. Since I updated my R5 to firmware 1.3 the high speed shutter went from green to white once my battery dropped below 50%. I really had not changed anything. I'm using the RF 24-105mm F4 L lense. Airplane mode. My settings while shooting were 1/6400th, aperture of 5.4 and Auto ISO. It was green and shooting high speed (EFCS) with no IS and after the battery dropped below 50% it went to white and slowed down. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Also I am using the LP-E6NH batteries from Canon. Once I placed a new battery in the camera it turned green again. So I will need to wait and see if this happens again. Just curious if anyone else had this happen since the firmware update. My camera was not experiencing this issue before the firmware update.

R5 and EOS Utility downloads to computer not complete.

Has anyone that downloads from the Camera using Eos utility to your computer, had any issues of not all the images downloading?

This has happened with the latest April update and the previous update to Eos Utility.
I have always kept the utility set to download images previously not downloaded option 1. That worked great if you shoot a few times a day and download more than once.

But I have found that not all images download to the computer. I have to change the utility to download "all" images, and this is a pita as you get multiples of the already download files, and the new ones that it missed by using "download all images".

Today I shot in crop mode and in full raw and when I started looking through the downloaded images, the full raw files were not in the mix.

R5 and new firmware: everything was perfect untill...

hello every body,
as you may know, i've had trouble with R5 and 500mm EF IS f4 V1, inacurate focus, lens continuesly focusing.
i knew it was no the lens, so i made a factory reset and all was perfect,
but i was waiting this new firmware because i think i will definitly fix possible AF problem.
so i installed it, P mode, no lens, battery ok.
and i test the R5 and 500mm with or without x1.4, also tested 100-500mm RF , and all was perfect , the 500mm f4 focused really fast , tracking was ok, no AF trouble at all.
so i went on the field did a few shots with x1.4, perfect), switch to 100-500mm, perfect, switch to 500mm+x1.4, perfect, 100-500mm, perfect, and back to 500mm+x1.4, and...
impossible to focus, i did not make a change on settings, AF keep tring to focus on subject , but still work perfect with 100-500mm.
i really don't understand.
i made a factory reset, nothing change,
any idea to fix this problem?

thanks .

Canon will announce the following lenses in April:

Images taken with Canon EF85mm f/1.8 USM wided opend on EOS 5DS/5DS R?

Please, anybody can send me several full-size images taken with Canon EF85mm f/1.8 USM wide opened on Canon EOS 5DS/5DS R? At F1.8 or F2, JPEG or RAW.

My camera body is EOS 5DS R. I am looking for a 85mm portrait lens to hand over my 100L Macro. But it must be not too expensive because I do not want to invesgate too much on DSLR. I am on my way to Canon RF mount.

I studied the cheap but ancient EF85mm f/1.8 USM and want to check the wide opened performance on the EOS 5DS/5DS R. My other handy Canon EF lenses: 24L II, 35L II, 100L Macro.

Thank you for sending me the images.

Three new Canon lenses appear for certification

Three new Canon lenses have appeared in Russia for certification according to Nokishita. At this time, I do not know what these three lenses are.
Below are the latest three lenses that have appeared for certification.

4857C005 – Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro
5053C005-  Canon RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM
5054C005 – Canon RF 600mm f/4L IS USM

In a normal world, once lenses reach this stage, they tend to be announced within a few months. Things could obviously be different this year.
I haven’t updated the Canon RF lens roadmap in a while, but you can...

Canon releases firmware v1.3.1 for the Canon EOS R6

After pulling the firmware update v1.3.0 for the Canon EOS R6 due to a major bug, Canon has quickly made available a firmware update with a fix.
Canon EOS R6 Firmware v1.3.1

Firmware Version 1.3.1 incorporates the following fixes and enhancements:
Adds [IPB (Light)] to 4K to enable lower bit rate shooting.
Adds [Electronic full-time MF] to the AF tab of the menu. When a lens is attached, manual focus adjustment is always possible with both One-shot AF and Servo AF.
The transfer time (estimated value) now displays on the camera monitor during FTP transfer.
Fixes a phenomenon, in which in rare instances, the camera cannot function normally when the drive mode is set to “High-speed continuous shooting” to shoot still images continuously.
Fixes a phenomenon that may corrupt the image displayed in the viewfinder.
Fixes a phenomenon in which the power may become suspended when the camera is powered via...

EOS R6 v1.3.0 firmware bug

https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Nf4y1x7iA?from=search&seid=8672218267018754065
Someone sent me this video showing the problem (FYI it's in Chinese)...

Based on what I've heard so far:
When you try to record 4k60p or 50p in crop mode the camera will freeze or showing Err 70. You won't be able to switch off the camera unless you remove the battery.
And the screen will stay black after reinserting the battery (but you can still enter the menu)
One of the solutions I heard: switch to photo mode, enter the menu and then reset all settings.
Then don't forget to roll back your firmware to 1.2.0 ;)

The New Canon EOS R6 firmware v1.3.0 has been pulled globally

Update: Canon has released firmware version 1.3.1, you can download it here.
A follower on Twitter has alerted me to the fact that the new Canon EOS R6 firmware version 1.3.0 is no longer available for download at Canon USA. I have also found this to be true of Canon UK, Canon Poland and Canon Australia. The firmware is still available on the Canon Australia website. I haven’t checked every site around the globe.

Update: A lot of Canon websites have also pulled any EOS R6 v1.3.0 firmware promotional material.
So what’s wrong with the latest firmware?

Canon backorders

Hey guys, just curious, as my company is trying to reinvest in ourselves, we were looking at liquidating some of our older gear and replace it with newer gear.... We were looking at picking up a 6d mark 2 or two as our backup cameras but have noticed lots of backorders with lots of different stores.... are you guys noticing this? This still related to covid closures? Just curious.

Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM & Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L USM II Discontinued

It looks like Canon is discontinuing EF lenses at quite a fast pace. This time I have been told that both the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM II and Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L USM II have been discontinued.
Keep in mind, even if a lens is discontinued from production, you’re still going to be able to find inventory in certain stores for a while.
I have added a page with a list of recently discontinued Canon EF lenses to the left menu. I’ll keep track of every lens that Canon discontinues over the next little while.

Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM officially discontinued

I meant to post about the discontinuation of the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM a while back, but I forgot to.
This is the second EF lens that has been officially discontinued in the last couple of weeks, the other being the EF 200mm f/2L IS USM.
I suspect that we’re going to see a bunch of EF lenses sent to pasture over the next 12 months.
I have not heard anything about a new pancake lens for the RF mount, but it would make sense that one is coming eventually for the RF mount.

Recommendation for a starter Canon camera system please.

Hi all,
I was just talking to a friend that wants to get his teen a camera to get started.
I believe the young man is in his upper teens.

I don't know anything lower than the R5/R6 level camera, I was wanting to recommend Canon, but I dunno anything below that, if there is anymore?

I would want to get them into mirrorless, is this possible at all in the $2k-$3k range with a kit lens?
I'd really like to get them started with FF if at all possible.

Anyway, I've not looked ever the low on the totem pole and not sure what's available from Canon.

Can ya'll give me some recommendations for a first camera in that price range for Canon?

I like canon for FF....if I went for crop, I was thinking of recommending Fuji....I don't know that the Canon M system is something to invest in, worried about the longevity of that line...?

Thoughts please!!

Thank you in advance,

cayenne

Is there an update on the new firmware for the EOS R5, EOS R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III?

Back on March 19, I reported that Canon would release new firmware within the “next couple of weeks”, which seemed to line up with the end of March. The number of times this source has been incorrect I can count on one finger.
So do I have an update on the highly anticipated new firmware arriving for your EOS R5, EOS R6 or EOS-1D X Mark III? Sadly, no.
I only post this because of the number of people that have written in across all platforms who are eagerly awaiting the feature updates, and responding to each person individually takes a lot of time.
The second I hear anything, I will let everyone know.
Update: The new firmware should be available to download on...

High RF lens color accuracy and consistency

Ran RF lens color tests in Lightroom using a R6 with a custom dual illuminate color profile made for the camera. Tests included shots in bright sunlight and shadows. For each shot I took a separate neutral grey shot to have the same white balance across all shots.

The test included the EF 35mm L II (for reference), RF 70-200 f/2.8, RF 100-500mm, RF 28-70mm f/2.0 and RF 50mm f/1.8. As I expected the results showed excellent color accuracy and consistency across all lenses - including the EF 35mm L II (which has some of Canon's newest lens coatings).

My conclusion is that swapping R-lenses will not lead to color inconsistencies and there is no need to repeat neutral grey shots unless your light changes - if using a proper color profile to process your files.

I will test more RF primes later. But expect the same results.

Need help with M42 to RF adapter (vintage Helios-44-2)

I've decided to jump into the world of vintage lenses and recently purchased a Helios-44-2 2/58 Jupiter M42 lens on eBay.

Now I need to find an adapter to make it fit my Canon EOS R6. As far as I understand, the adapter doesn't do anything except convert one mount to another, so a cheap adapter should work just as well as a more expensive one, right?

Looking at Amazon, I've found a few different M42 adapters. What confuses me is that some of them seem to be thicker than others. Ideally, I would like to go with the smallest adapter I can find.

I hope it's OK to link to Amazon. Here are two examples:

M42 Screw Mount Lens Adapter Manual To Canon RF Lens for Canon EOS RP, EOS R Camera (£8)

K&F Concept M42 to EOS R Lens Mount Adapter for M42 Mount Lens and Compatible with Canon EOS R Cameras (£43)

Why wouldn't I go with the cheaper and smaller option?

EDIT: I found another small/cheap adapter and noticed one of the reviews stating that it didn't work with the Helios due to flange distance:
I used this to connect a Helios 44-2 lens to the can eos r. Wouldn’t allow me to focus at all. I think it leaves the lens too close to the sensor to focus properly. Not sure what this is actually useful for.
