site inaccesible via Android

Since a couple of days ago, I can't browse CR from my phone using chrome. Both using Kiwi and Google original versions.

Symptoms: after a few seconds, the screen turns bluish, but no cookies popup menu comes (as in the PC). I can't touch anywhere... only reloading the page provides a few seconds (3?) where the page is still usable for touching a link. In the PC I have accepted the cookies, but in the phone I can't!!

The only workaround is to disable javascript.

UPDATE!!!! Living with the EOS R5/R6 EVF Eyecup

One of the biggest drawbacks, in my opinion, to the R was its eyecup. Shallow, and could not be replaced with a third-party alternative. The R5/R6 marketing claimed that they would have "improved" eyecups. Hmmm, maybe, but not significantly, in my experience.

Mid-mornings and late-afternoons are terrible for me on sunny days. Even when my lens is angled so sunflare is not an issue, a nearly 90 degree zone (with the sun being in the center) is very difficult for me to photograph because the sun is too bright to allow me to see what is happening in the EVF.

I solved this problem on Canon dSLR's by using a Hoodman Eyecup, not for eyeglasses, but to prevent harsh, slanting sunlight from causing problems seeing through the viewfinder.

As of yet, no way I know of to remove R5/R6 eyecup and replace with third-party eyecup.

Has anybody heard of a solution? Even DIY?

Currently, the best I can do is wear a broad-brimmed hat, but that can be awkard, and most of them look goofy on me. But it does improve things for me.

EDIT: But a problem with hats is they don't work well for events that are indoor and outdoor--as soon as I put a speedlite on the camera, the brim of the hat is really in the way. Then I have to figure out where to stow the hat.

Thanks!

EDIT: My problem has been fixed! Further down in the thread, you'll see a brief discussion of the replacement eyecups I'm using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BDL51WNW/?tag=canorumo-20

Is there such a thing like pro stock lenses, or special +++ quality lenses for demo or reviews ?

I am a new member here, let me give a little info about myself: Professional Photographer for the last 30 years, with international assignments, I am based in Europe.

I am very particular when selecting a lens, I am a good customer at a pro shop and they generally will lend me 4-5 lenses for me to pick the best one. I think it is no secret that there are sample variations, and they can be huge especially on zoom lenses.

I have been testing for years, and my first encounter with a special lens was the 100-400 ver 1 for my 5DsR - I got to test the demo provided by canon, and 3 other 100-400, and some prime 300 and 400. That demo 100-400 was a pure gem, and was overall a much better performer that the other glasses. I ct a deal and was allowed to purchase the 100-400 Demo.

Next time was with the 24TS II (my bread and butter lens when shooting architecture), I had a really great 24TS (very early model) but it got damaged beyond repair, so I had to get a new one. I just purchased a new sample, but it was no where as good as my old one, and I went through 4-5 other samples with same result. My pro shop called canon, and their rep let me try their Demo version of the 24TS, and voila that was a gem of a lens, and I got to purchase that sample.

Now I am in a similar situation, I changed to R5 and was looking for an 85 (my bread and butter lens for portraits), I have the Canon 85 1.8, 85 1.4 ID, 85 1.2 II, Tamron 85 1.8 VC and Sigma 85 1.4 - so I don't really need anything more, but it is also time to perhaps upgrade to RF 85 1.2

So I got a Canon demo RF 85 1.2 and had a shoot out (nerdy testing) with the other 85's to see if it's really worth it before making a purchase. All I can say is WOW that lens is just magical, never seen anything like it, better than my 90 TS II, better than anything. I was so exited and went to buy the lens. Got a brand new one, and went straight back to my studio setup and made a test, and the lens was good (great) but not like the demo version, and there was a clear difference. I went back to my pro shop and got another sample, and that was even worse.

So I wonder when I read glowing reviews on that lens, if there is such a thing like pro stock (tennis term for special racquets for top pro players) or a selected A+++ lens for demo and reviews.

It is kind of frustrating, so I would like to have your opinion on this topic (apologize if that has been discussed before or if it is a well kept secret).

Thank you very much for any feed back, as monday morning I will have to replace the lens for another sample, or perhaps get the demo.

Cheers, TES

Concept for a modern 3D camera based on the EOS-M

Folks;

Canon makes the EOS-M, using an APS-C sized sensor. The maximum external diameter of the lens per spec is 61mm. The lens mount is smaller in diameter.

So it is dimensionally possible to mount two of the EOS-M mounts side by side and obtain the traditional 3D separation, and still be able to mount all the different available lenses - include the zoom lenses. Zoom lenses would permit, with some experimentation, matching the lens FL’s precisely, saving the cost of exactly matched lenses (an important criteria in 3D photography). Turn the sensors on their side, and it is, format wise, not unlike a 645 format ‘negative’.

Canon could then come out with a printer that did transparencies in an appropriate size (they do large format ones, so why not small format?); thus they could easily field a 3D camera utilizing all parts that exist in the parts bin. They would need to do some firmware to integrate the two camera modules, but that wouldn’t be terribly difficult.

Since the size of the transparency is whatever the designer wants it to be, they could easily create a system that would permit making MF sized (or any other size they chose) 3D cards. There are a number of different formats...

This could rejuvenate the 3D field. And make them money through the sale of printing supplies (the razor blade sales approach), thus making it something they might consider. And make for more EOS-M sales.

Thoughts? Admittedly only half baked...

Canon Rumors becomes fully compliant

Over the last couple of weeks, I have spent a lot of time looking over the various laws surrounding compliance with affiliate disclosures, cookie requirements as well as web accessibility.
As you’ve probably seen for the last week or so, there is now an affiliate disclosure on every post. Affiliate revenue helps to keep the lights on.
After hours of research, I have selected the service providers to implement these changes. They are not free and do add to the monthly costs of the site.
Canon Rumors is now fully compliant with the following requirements:

Affiliate Disclosure
TCF 2.0 / IAB
GDPR (Europe)
CCPA (California)
WCAG 2.1 / ADA

You may notice floating buttons at the bottom left of the site on both desktop and mobile. The lock icon is for TCF 2.0/IAB, GDPR and CCPA compliance.
The wheelchair icon is for “web accessibility”. This offers tools for people that have visual or certain mental health challenges. It’s actually a pretty cool addition I think.

Patent: The Canon vlogging camera appears in another patent

I reported earlier this month that Canon would make an EF-M related announcement in 2021, even after telling you about the imminent demise of the EOS M system in its current form.
Canon News has uncovered another patent for this new camera from Canon.
The latest patent showcases a lock that prevents the device from moving around when you are replacing lenses. The mount is likely for EF-M lenses.
There have been at least 9 patents related to this camera device since December. You can check a few of them here, here and...

Former exclusive Costco Photo Center partner launches PhotoRepairPro.com

PhotoRepairPro.com launches Warehouse Club Photo Restoration Service from Hollywood Photo Studio. Direct-to-Consumer Service Extends Big Box Price and Value with No Membership Required.
Last week, Costco closed all of their in-store photo centers, which made a lot of people unhappy, I had no idea how many people loved the services. I don’t live anywhere near a Costco.

One of the services offered was a photo restoration service. This service was outsourced exclusively to a company in Hollywood, California. Now with the closure of the Costco photo centers, the company has launched PhotoRepairPro.com to cover the needs of former Costco customers.
The bit of good news? The aggressive pricing is being maintained by the new service with a flat rate of $39.99 USD...

SIGMA releases an official update about their Foveon X3 sensor project

SIGMA CEO Kazuto Yamaki has issued an official statement about the Foveon X3 1:1:1 sensor development which was scrapped last February due to a critical flaw in the sensor design that would make it impossible to mass-produce.
SIGMA has gone back to the drawing board and restarted the research and development from scratch. SIGMA cannot give a timetable as to when they can tell us more about the new image sensor.

Statement from SIGMA:
First of all, thank you very much for your continued support and interest in our products.
In February 2020, we announced our decision to restart our plans for a full-frame Foveon X3 sensor camera, beginning with the development of a new sensor technology. We have not been able to share any information regarding this project in the time since, and I would like to use this short message to provide an update about the situation.
As previously announced, we halted the development of the project after the sensor we were working with could not go into mass...

Patent: The return of eye-controlled focus, but for mirrorless cameras

Keith over at Northlight Images has uncovered a USPTO patent that shows eye-controlled focus for mirrorless cameras. This has been a requested feature for quite some time and we have seen in the past on film cameras such as the EOS 5, EOS 3 and Elan IIE. It was always a mixed bag when it came to its effectiveness, some people loved it, others hated it.
From USPTO Patent US 2021/0051265
An image capture apparatus detects a subject in a captured image. The image capture apparatus further recognizes its user based on an eyeball image of the user. The image capture apparatus then selects a main subject area from among the detected subject areas, based on information regarding subjects captured in the past and stored being associated with the recognized user.
There was a patent for this back in 2019, but Canon has added to the technology by...

Patent: RF prime lenses including an RF 24mm f/1.4L USM and RF 50mm f/1.4 USM

Japan Patent 2021-18277A shows off a bunch of optical formulas for various fast prime lenses for the RF Mount.
Included in this patent are two 24mm f/1.4 optical formulas, as well as an RF 28mm f/1.8 (Yes Please!), a 35mm f/1.8 and a lens that would likely be quite popular, an RF 50mm f/1.4.
I think it’s safe to say that we will see an RF 24mm f/1.4L USM at some point in the next year or two. I’ve been doing this site for 13 years now, and we’re all still waiting for a new 50mm f/1.4 lens from Canon. I can already see the “Shut up and take my money” memes.

I once was in love with my RP........

"A Tale of Two Bodies"

A while back, when I had a 5Div and one of the M's for a secondary body / backup, I grew to be very disappointed in my APS-C results (another topic for another day) so when the RP became available, selling my EF-M lenses and body and getting the smallest and lightest full frame Canon camera at an almost financial wash seemed a no-brainer. I'd have two FF cameras, one an amazing pro-level and the other more portable. The RP got me hooked. I soon was using the RP as my primary camera, able to get some very reasonable images with adapted EF lenses, and the DSLR was sitting. Histogram in the EVF, exposure simulation, and almost DSLR controls wooed me. Despite some limitations, the mirrorless world got me hooked. Over time, I was able to get an R5 and sell the 5Div. Everyone should have these problems (insert sarcasm Emoji here) but that is my recent history.

Now, I have been taken with the R5. The RP is sitting. I have carried both cameras to have two different lens combinations and the RP just is not the same. Maybe the RP "love affair" is over. I am not ready to sell the secondary body nor can I afford to get a different "image capturing mistress." I have thought about an R or an R6, but it won't happen.

Just throwing this out there for your thoughts. I am going to be loyal to my present camera family but........

Review: Canon RF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM by CameraLabs

Gordan Laing from CameraLabs has completed his review of the Canon RF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM, in which he compares it directly to the EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM II and the RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM. I mean, you’re comparing 3 amazing lenses against each other, you can’t lose.
From CameraLabs
What makes the RF lens really special though is its size, little larger than a 330ml can when zoomed to 70mm and considerably more portable than the EF version, particularly when the adapter’s fitted for EOS R bodies. The extending barrel is a double-edged sword though as it’s way too soon to know about long-term sealing. Like the RF 2.8 version, the optical design sadly rules out the use of RF teleconverters and also results in significant focus breathing where the magnification reduces at...

Sigma 12 24 f4 art, any experience paired with the R5?

Hi, I have the sigma 12 24 f4.5 to 5.6 mark ii ef mount which works with R5 for autofocus but not in camera IBIS. Appears to be making small erratic movements. It's fine if turn IBIS off.
Given used often indoors, would be great if can get IBIS to work. Any ideas? (Appreciate sigma indicates likely to be issues.)

Alternatively has anyone tried the newer sigma 12 24 f4 art on the R5? Does it work well with IBIS? Also wondered if they have tried the canon ef rf adapter with nd filter with this lens?

R6 SETTINGS

I'm a newbie mirrorless owner, but have had a 5D for years.
Is there an easy 'user manual' site for a new R6 owner? I can't find a comprehensive one online. The Canon user manual explains all the possible settings but not why you may want to use them.
I want to reduce/limit the time the screen is on when I'm waiting to shoot. (Not preview time - I found those settings) - but after taking a shot the screen is active & draining the battery for too long. And generally, I need to know just what or when to use and activate settings and what some of them do. Some help will be appreciated.

Indoor gigs, lens dilemma with R5

I've come to Canon from Fuji so I'm adjusting to full-frame etc.

I recently bought an R5 with the 24-105mm F4. I was always considering adding the RF 70-200 F2.8. Mainly for family events indoors and occasional indoor gigs.

My main reason for going for another RF lens was the smaller size/weight and the short supply in the UK of the EF>R adapter. Well, I managed to get an adapter yesterday!

As you all know the 70-200 2.8 is a cracking lens at a high price. I can afford to buy it however, it will take me several months before I can buy more lenses if I spend that all on one lens.

Is the RF the lens to go for or now that I have an adapter are there older sharp EF lenses I should consider?

RF Lens Supply

I pulled the trigger on an R5 order, am very excited!

The thing is Western Australia seems to have no RF lenses and people can’t even give me an eta for new stock. Even the ef adapter is on back order with a 6-8 week lead time! What’s it like overseas?

I’m not after anything recently announced just a 24-70 or 24-105 (after I compare the two).

Delays seem to be the name of the game for 2021

I have been told that Canon had planned to make some sort of a splash ahead of CP+, which begins February 25, 2021, as a virtual show. The source claims that a new body was scheduled to be announced along with a couple of lenses. It now looks like that isn’t going to happen.
There is always a possibility of a development announcement for a camera or lenses, as those tend not to leak ahead of time. Development announcements don’t occur very often, and probably provide some headaches from the impatient type of consumer.
Below are three lenses that have been confirmed numerous times for the RF mount, and all of which will be significantly delayed due to manufacturing challenges. These are the only lenses that I had a confirmed time for an announcement.

Canon RF 18-45mm f/4-5.6 IS STM

This is an interesting lens, especially with its focal range. This tends to be held for APS-C sensor camera kit lenses. It was originally scheduled to be announced in the 1st quarter of 2021. This lens...

Industry News: Rumored specs for the Sony FX3 are here, it’s an A7S III on steroids

More specifications for the upcoming Sony FX3 cinema alpha series mirrorless camera and they’ve evolved a bit since the original reports. Gaston Shutters is pretty confident on his YouTube channel that the following specifications are the real deal.
Sony FX3 Rumored Specifications:

12MP Full-Frame sensor
No ND
Shoots Stills as well
IBIS with active mode
Same Codecs as the A7S III
No RAW video
The top handle will have two XLR ports and a 3.5mm jack
Same NPFZ 100 battery as the A7S III
Price is €3795
CFExpress Slots
Records 4k/120p
Preorders begin on February 23, 2021

Sony and Canon definitely see the market differently, as their offers seem to be quite different from one another. This Sony FX3 looks quite compelling for a lot of people, and we’ll see whether people go with this camera or an A7S III in the coming months.
Wouldn’t it be cool if Canon did an EOS R6c? One can dream.

Wide angle lens for R5

Hello, I own a EOS R5 and I have the following lenses: Samyang 10mm ED AC NCS f2,8, RF 15-35mm f2,8, EF 24-70 f2,8, RF 70-200 f2,8. I have a Nodal Ninja 4 rotator.
I shoot landscape, night/astro and street photography.
Mainly for astro/star trails/milky way and panoramic/landscape images I am wondering if there is in the market a very good wide lens. The Samyang 10mm is OK, but a bit wider and maybe brighter lens (autofocus will be perfect) is my dilemma as I do not really see anything available in the marlet, beside few manual focus lenses.
The older Canon 8-15mm F/4 fisheye is a possibility but first is not very bright and second is a bit old lens.
I am wondering if you think that anything is either already available or will come to the market soon (according to the Canon RF forcast for 2021 nothing), so just looking on alternative like Sigma art lenses...
What is your opinion?
Shall I just get the Canon 8-15 or I shold wait as sometimes will eventually come either in year 2021 or 2022?
