A report today suggests we may see five new EF-M lenses in the next 24 months. I have not heard anything that would corroborate this information at this time.

Hi guys!

I’ve started enabling the Show AF point in review/play and noticed that for tracking it VERY often show the AF point where initially was and not where I moved it when shooting bursts. I enabled this function because of the crazy poor hit rate with fast subjects. And it seems indeed for faster subjects that the AF point doesn’t really track, it just stays where it was when the shutter is being pressed. I’m so bad at explaining this, but as seen in my examples the focus didn’t even try, it just stay behind and never pickes up the subject. It feels like using pre-focus instead of Ai Servo (which of course is enabled).

Is this because the RF50 and RF85 are way too slow or is it the body that just doesn’t respond when things are moving faster? My 1-series and 5-series bodies have always at least tried, but the R seems to just throw it hands in the air and be like, I’m not even going to try that...

A lot of cat shots when they jump the af point sits where they sit before the jump, and when moving the camera/af point to follow their movement it doesn’t leave the spot where they were. So sudden movements is never focused. Many times the shutter doesn’t even release even though I have set it to prioritize shutter release (5 fps).

I’ve tried every AF mode and settings imaginable .

The camera works great with everything else and slow, even movements are no issue.

I so wish I could have a go with the RF70-200 to find out where the bottleneck is...

Seriously frustrating stuff, especially since tracking slower movements is incredibly accurate ..

There have been a few rumors that Canon will do a “holy trinity” of RF mount f/2L zoom lenses, as you know, we already have the RF 28-70mm f/2L USM, which is an amazing piece of glass.
An unknown source now claims that an RF 14-28mm f/2L USM is on the way sometime in 2020, this goes with a previous rumor of an RF 70-135mm f/2L USM coming as well.
That would be quite the trifecta of zoom lenses from Canon.

I sell my products online with Amazon being my largest outlet, up until now, anyway. Today, they announced that they do not have enough staff to receive any products but Food and Medical Supplies, so they turned off the ability for sellers to send shipments to fulfilled by Amazon with the exception of food and medical supplies.

So, once my inventory at Amazon is sold, I may not be able to replentish. Amazon is also looking to hire 100,000 new employees. Grocery stores locally are also hiring more help to keep shelves stocked.

If the limits on restocking continue, lots of items will be in short supply. With New York considering a lockdown, will Adorama and B&H also be affected, or will mail order keep on. Who knows the next move.

The Canon EOS R6 announcement is likely coming in the next couple of months, we figure it’ll come before Photokina which is still scheduled to start on May 27, 2020.
We have received further information about the specifications for the Canon EOS R6, and we’ll present them in bold.
These are the original specifications that we published in January that we classify as [CR3], the new information we’re putting at [CR2] for the moment.

Last week, a report came out about Canon’s high-megapixel EOS R system camera, saying that the new camera would come with a 150mp image sensor.  While impressive, I had doubts that such a sensor would appear in the near future in a consumer product.
I have now been told that the high-megapixel EOS R camera system camera is in the early stages of testing with a very select group of photographers.
The megapixel count is “significantly lower than 150mp” the source claims, but that it “just about doubles” the 45mp sensor in the upcoming Canon EOS R5.
The video specifications I was told are not all that impressive, as that is definitely not the target market for such a camera. If you’re into video, the Canon EOS R5 is going to have you covered for the foreseeable future, but that the high-megapixel camera will be squarely aimed at still photographers.
This camera should be ready to ship in early 2021...

The suspense is killing me! I'm wondering how many readers here will get this lens instead of an RF 70-200? The RF 70-135mm is a lens I am lusting for, yet we have not seen even a photo yet. While it will take me at least a year to save the money (I want to avoid using a credit card), I am still dying to see this lens and what it will do compared to the wonderful EF 135mm f/2 prime I used to own.

I have used the M5, the Pen F and various others as a small alternative or backup to my 5D series cameras in the past. As I patiently wait for later than early adopter status for the R5 I have been considering an X100V. I like the bumps in specs and finish from the F version and the simplicity appeals. Typically on family travel I have learned to take very different gear than when I travel for photographic exploits and less is more is my mantra. Jpeg and film simulation/B&W would be a plus as well. I don't always need to work with RAW!

Anybody here have one or an X100F?

Observations:

1) The DS improves the appearance of bokeh in busy scenes (leaves on the left side of the frame, a couple feet behind the model.

2) The DS produces artificial-looking bokeh in less busy scenes (background some distance behind the model)

3) The DS for some reason intensifies the color of bokeh balls.

4) The 1.5-2 stops of light lost not only produces a deeper DoF, but also (practically speaking) generated blurry images for Barrera in some scenes due to hand-holding at a low shutter speed, probably trying to ensure images captured with each lens were at the same aperture and ISO.

5) The lenses seem to perform the same in all other regards, including sharpness and AF, due to having basically the same design.

I'm leaning 80/20 on getting the standard version someday because I value those 1.5-2 stops of light the DS loses, but it's not out of the question. I would be curious to shoot with the DS myself and see if the BG bokeh still looks weird to me after shooting some of my own work rather than watching how others use it.

I have been told that the production of the Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6 are both running at less than 1/4 of Canon’s manufacturing capacity due to supply chain issues from the Coronavirus. This will lead to obvious issues with production numbers.
The same source says Canon is considering either releasing the cameras as planned, with the Canon EOS R5 initially scheduled to begin shipping in July, and the Canon EOS R6 rumored to start shipping in June and living with the headache of low-quantity/high-demand or waiting until the fall, likely October 2020 to release both cameras in good quantity.

Another Canon camera has shown up for certification, this one is codenamed DS126838, which follows the DS126832 from a couple of weeks ago.
Both cameras appear to use the same battery and are likely the Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6.
You will see a Speedlite 600EX-RX mentioned in this certification, could this be a possible typo? It’s likely, but I have been told that a new flagship Speedlite is on the way.

Since last week I am somewhat an happy owner of the 70-200mm.
The size, weight and construction was a very nice surprise. Image quality is almost prime like and very, very good, can I say “perfect”? (compared to its EF II sister). Especially wide open.
But here is the kicker, the AF performance is very fast and accurate in good light. But in moderate and low light the AF speed drops significantly and hunts very very badly. It reminds me of the Sigma lenses way back before the Art platform era, some 10 years ago.
Last Friday and Saturday I switched back to my adapted 85mm IS and 24-70mm II. And it was “happy” shooting again but I could not for the life me figure out what causes this.

I got so frustrated with it that I hurt my finger pressing the shutter to button in the hopes that it finally does something until I get a red square constantly and thought the hell with it.

See troubleshooting details below:
-Latest firmware installed on both the R and the lens.
-Happens with the RF 70-200mm ONLY.
-Other native and adapted lenses (all Canon) does not exhibit this in similar ambient light/camera settings.
-Adjusting minimum focus distance or IS settings did not change the behavior.
-Bumping the ISO improves it slightly, but not by much.
-At 70mm little to no issues, up until about 135mm it gets slightly worse. At 200mm is the worst offender.
-Subject distance far (about 15 meters) or near (close to minimum distance) did behave similarly bad with AF

I don’t have my EF version anymore, so I cannot really compare. Will do that later with a loaner of a friend.
Does any of you guys had the same/similar problem and what were your workarounds?

I've been testing out a lens to compare the sharpness of the image taken with af to the one taken with liveview. No matter how much i microadjust it, I cannot get it as sharp. Is this normal?

Unfortunately, Fortiva has ended it's partnership with Adorama. While Fortiva is a sub-prime lender, they often financed with no interest anywhere from 6 months to a year and I have taken advantage of that several times, always paying off the balance before the program end. I guess my standard credit cards, or moving over to B&H, will now be my route for gear. Did anyone else use Fortiva?

Today I shot a series of corporate headshots on the R. Used a Godox X-Pro C triggering a Godox AD200 and 685. I used a BR-E1 bluetooth remote with the camera on a tripod. In about one in 3 or 4 exposures, neither flash fired, but when the flashes fired exposure was perfect. This was not due to insufficient charging time, as then I would expect the more powerful AD200 to fire. And the trigger is nearly new. However, when I used the camera shutter directly, the flash fired 100% of the time.

Is there some interference between the bluetooth remote and the Godox trigger?

It's there, he's using it but clearly under NDA. What a tease.
