24-70 f2.8 II - Is play in the lens barrel normal?

I clumsily dropped my 24-70 f2.8 II today. It wasn't a very hard hit. I was kneeling over when it happened, so it wasn't from full waist height, and it was on somewhat soft, sandy ground. Lens still seems to work fine, but can anyone who owns one confirm whether or not it's normal for the extending barrel to have just a little play in it when you wiggle it back and forth? It's pretty minimal, like no more than 1mm of play side to side, if that. I just can't remember if it was like that originally. Thanks.

The EF-M 32mm f 1.4 stm first impressions

I received my pre-ordered EF-M 32mm f1.4 stm yesterday. I am very satisfied with what I have seen so far. Please note that I have not done any controlled testing at all. No tripod, and no comparisons with other lenses.

Sharpness, contrast and clarity compares to L-series lenses! Actually, and without a direct comparison, I would say it is equally sharp as the 35LII when both are shot at f1.4 (and attached to an APS-C sensor. It is absolutely great!

Sharpness seems good all the way to the edges, even at f1.4.

I have only seen the tiniest bit of chromatic aberrations at f1.4, which seemed to be gone at f3.2. To my eyes, it performs very well in this regard.

Subject separation seems very good as well! Delighted to see that!

Focus was pretty fast and very accurate with my M5.

The only downside I have seen so far is that the bokeh is a bit busy compared to what I would expect if it was a L-series lens. Bokeh balls are neither round or clean inside.

I can say, without any more testing, that the EF-M 32 mm f1.4 is a great lens.

I attach a few of the pictures from today. They are edited slightly to taste, but no sharpening have been applied. They are downsized to meed the limitations on this page.

How to defish architectural shots made with Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L?

Hi,

I am trying to use Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L to make some archictectural shots (façades of two or three story buildings in narrow alleys and very long façades in narrow alleys as well). What do you recomend to defish those images? I have already used my widest rectilinear lens (Sigma 12-24mm) but I still need a wider field of view, so I think a fisheye will be my best option.

A new Canon EOS R body with IBIS - A new life for old lenses?

When Canon releases a new EOS R body with IBIS could it mean a new life for old lenses? I think it would be very interesting for owners of Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L (or 1.0L), EF 85mm f/1.2L, EF 135mm f/2L and several other lenses to simply add IS to all those lenses by buying a new body. Consider, for example, the Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L, it could become Canon EF 800mm f/11.2L IS by adding a teleconverter on a R body with IBIS. It know it might be not as good as IS on the lens and some of these lenses might suffer from age, from not being natively designed for R body, from not being designed for a high resolution sensor, but how wonderful it would be to give new life to some old lenses? Ou(R )future might might be interesting after all.

Question for the 80D owners

Normally I’m the odd duck with hardware, but I find that I like the image quality of my 60D better than that of my 80D. I use both to shoot high school volleyball and football and I’m finding that the 80d image quality looks mushy at 3200 iso compared to my 60D. I’m not home right now, but will post some volleyball examples when I get home. I’m using the 35 f/2 or the 85f/1.8 for most shots, but also use the 70-200.

Anyone else out there not liking the photo results of the 80D, or is it just me.

Canon EOS R - Which lens? 28-105mm f4 IS or 28-70 f2?

So im considering upgrading my canon 5d IV to the new canon eos r...while the 5d IV still has a good chucnk of resale value.

anyways, i was wondering which lens would be best? the 28 105 f4 or plsurging on the 28-70 f2?

i only hvae one lens witht he 5d IV which was the 24-70 f2.8 II. stellar lens, but i always wish it had IS for video which i mostly do.

i like good photo quality too when taking picture at weddings and such, but those are only for fun and for my family/friends. (not an actual wedding photographer).

since im coming from a high aperature, would the f4 28-105mm be a downgrade? such as losing alot of bokeh?

Question: EVF of the EOS R - compared to Sony 7AIII?

Who can tell me, something about the quality of the EVF of the Eos R? And of the maximal brightness of the display?

Yesterday, I was hiking in the Dolomites ( Italy, Europe). And I took two of my bodies with me. 7AIII with 24-105 and 5DIV with 24-105 and 16-35mm, to be more flexible (no primes as of wheigt limitation :) )
My thoughts on these two bodies: 7AIII - definitively sharper 24-105 and more blueish shots. But the shooting experience was definitively better with the 5DIV. The 7AIII EVF is still blueish, and much to dark, when used in bright conditions. Also, the effect of an polarizer was lagged by the EVF. So I had to wait some seconds on the effect.
The OVF of the 5DIV was a pleasure to use...

So, I´d like to know: How is the EVF of the Eos R compared with the EVF of the 7AIII?
And whats about the display?

Is there an EOS R series camera with an APS-C sensor coming? [CR1]

We’ve now been told by a couple of people that an EOS R camera is currently being tested with an APS-C image sensor. One of the sources told us that they don’t know if it will become a consumer product, but that there is some internal discussion about what to do with the EOS M line of cameras and lenses.
I don’t think anyone would be surprised to hear that EOS M may indeed be on the chopping block in the coming years as the EOS R system matures, and we expect it to mature quite quickly.
We believe there will always be a market for APS-C ILC cameras and it it would make a lot of sense for Canon’s mirrorless system(s) to be using a single lens mount.

Review: Canon EOS R by Peter McKinnon

Peter McKinnon has completed his review of the brand new Canon EOS R camera body and has come away quite impressed.
From a vloggers perspective, he loves that the camera shoots c-log, he doesn’t find the 4K crop a big deal since you can use inexpensive wide EF-S lenses easily.
