Insta360 Ace Pro 2 specifications leak ahead of announcement

Insta360 makes a lot of popular action style cameras. It seems the action camera segment has a lot of great competition between Insta360, DJI and stalwart GoPro. Insta360 has a partnership with Leica and their lenses are branded as such. They’re obviously not made by Leica, but are Leica built to Leica’s suggested design. Insta360

Adapting Fuji X Mount to RF mount

Never really gave much thought to adapted lenses, but when I sold off all my Fuji gear, I was left with an 18-55 that they wouldn’t take because it had a small scratch on the front element. It’s been sitting on my dresser for about a year now and it just occurred to me to try sticking it on my R5. Because, why not?

B&H seems to have the requisite adapter

I know it will be manual focus and am dimly aware that the focus assist won’t work. Somewhere in the menus is a crop mode setting…I think… would that “fix” the disparity in image size? What else do I need to know? (Other than it’s a stupid idea).

Canon Patent Application: Canon RF 28-70mm F2.8 IS STM

The patent application (2024-140521) for the Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 IS STM has shown up in Japan. This is a little curious as we get to see the design criteria that Canon used, and how the theoretical lens should perform.

Patona LP-E6P batteries are fully compatible with the R5II

I took the gamble of buying Patona branded versions of the LP-E6P and LP-EL this weekend and they arrived today. The LP-EL works fine in my EL-5 (which luckily doesn't drain batteries overnight) and the LP-E6P works in the R5II.
The R5II detects it as an LP-E6P, I can register it in the camera and both pre-capture in stills at 30fps and 8k60 RAW video recording worked without issues. I'm now charging it through the USB-C port in the battery itself.

Since they arrived less than half an hour ago, I can't say anything about capacity or longevity, but at half the price of their OEM counterparts they have some goodwill :)

Canon R5 Mark II and R6 Mark II Rule the Rankings

Yodobashi Camera has posted its latest ranking report for September. Now, this is just one of the largest retailers in Japan, so it's a pretty significant look at what prosumer and professional camera users are purchasing there.

camera clicking and video jumping on R5M2

I posted this in another thread but the thread is for a different issue. When I am using my R5M2 in video mode with auto focus and image stabilization on, my camera clicks louder than normal when it is focusing between near and far objects and the video noticeably twists/distorts periodically. Has anyone seen this in their R5M2s? It only does this in video mode and works fine in image mode. If I turn image stabilization off the issue goes away. Below is a link to a short video I took with my phone looking through the viewfinder as it seems to be more pronounced that way than using the rear screen, however it still does it when not looking through the viewfinder.

Edit, the video won't play unless downloaded, only drawback from my file sharing system.

Canon Patent Application: Actively Cooled Small Cini Camera

In this patent application (2024-135864) Canon is exploring increasing the heat dissipation in a small R5C-looking camera body. In particular, Canon is worried about the heat buildup around the media card, and looking to improve heat dissipation around the card without increasing the size of the camera. With good reason, those CF Express cards can get quite toasty.

Canon Patent Application: Diffractive Optical Element

In this patent application (2024-135951) Canon is discussing how to improve the manufacturing of a diffractive optical element of a curious nature.

R5 Mark II shortage... new information about availability??

Good morning!

Anybody out there, who has recent information about when the R5 Mark II will be available in bigger numbers?
The store where I ordered, sent me an Email - another delay on delivery: It will be sent in February or March not on X-Mas. I am allowed to cancel my order and get my down payment back.
I found one store in Ruhr-area that has one body in it´s store. But this will be soldy by an plus of 1500 Euro. Not acceptable.
My R5 has to get the mechanical shutter fixed, so I´ve to decide whether the R5 should be repaired (800-1300€) or I should wait for the R5 II - if it will be available before winter.

Thank you

Bird photographers question

Do you use your lens wide open or stopped down for flight shots ?
I have just started to process over 10,000 photos. Reduced it to 2600 on first edit , no eye -out , no eye shine -out, any bit out of frame -out., nictating membrane -out.
I was tracking puffins with 600/ f4, 300/2.8 and 200/2.8 flying at me and got nice shots but when the landed with a mouth full of sand eels i was struggling with dept of field as they were close. They usually hit the ground running for their nest hole so no time to change aperature. The 200 2.8 did very well for birds flying close to the cliffs in strong winds. What works for you ?

There will be changes to the Canon EOS R1 before launch

The Canon EOS R1 is scheduled to become available in November for $6299 USD, and the camera is already in production at a supposed rate of 3700 units a month. The EOS R1 was first used professionally Formula 1 races and the Paris games this past July, but it has continued to be professionally tested across the globe at many other events. We have been told that there will be a few changes to the software related specifications of the camera and that we will see a couple of “new features” being added to the final version of the camera.
