Canon has delayed the next EOS R5 Mark II shipments by potentially 6 months.

Before the launch of the Canon EOS R5 Mark II, we talked about the delivery schedule that was told to dealers for inventory. We mentioned that Canon was going to have the initial allocation, and then the last week of August there would be another, and then again in mid-September. That is apparently not happening,

Canon to Present at IEEE Sensors 2024

Kazuhiro Morimoto of Canon will be talking at IEEE Sensors 2024, about SPAD sensors (single photon avalanche diode) sensors. These are atypically used for time of flight measurements and other light sensitive applications.

A few R5 mk II questions while I wait :)

Hi all, hope your day is wonderful.

As many know delivery of the R5 II has been extremely limited in Europe so while I wait I had some questions.

1 ) I am a video-n00b and would like to know what the best 4K video setting is if I don’t want to postprocess, but use the files directly from the camera. Can I shoot CLOG2 add a LUT in camera and have a finished video file to view on my tv ?

2) Does anyone know how the camera is as good weathersealed as the mk1 with the vent holes?

3) which mic that doesn’t pick up «camera sounds» would you recommend for the new hotshoe? I’ve always used an onboard Voicerecorder that are both cheap and has superb sound quality with a lot more options than your standard mic, but I’m think there might be som more fun alternatives with the new hotshoe?

4) Does antiflicker work with electronic shutter now?

5) one person has confirmed that using HSS in ES is possible, have any more of you also found that to work with any issues?

6) Do you know why it’s not possible to use faster than 1/8000s in Av?

R5 MkII issues - flash and focus bugs

A few times now while shooting macro with flash the camera does some strange things - doesn't see the flash and accommodate on lcd or vf - the screen is dark and grainy and pumps the iso up. then sometimes when i shoot there is a black horizontal section over the top 1/3 of the shot consistently - its not a shutter synch issue, 1/160 1/200 speeds with a godox V860iii flash - and then also i have to fight with it to focus properly. Turning flash and/or camera on and off does not fix it, removing flash and reinstalling doesn't fix it - BUT when i remove the battery (one that came with camera) and put it back in the issue goes away. Also own an R8 and never have this issue.

Buying my first Mirrorless

Hi, Good evening everyone,

I want your advice; I am considering buying my first mirrorless camera, currently using a 5D Mark II. I do portraits, weddings, dance, scene photography.

I am considering the R6 Mark II for this transition to a new ecosystem; Is it the correct choice, should I wait for the R6 Mark III or the R5?

Do you have an idea of the R6 Mark III specifications?

Thanks for your help and a big hug from Madrid Spain.

Best Regards,

Xoán.

Thoughts from members that own the R3 but bought the R5 MkII

I haven't seen/heard much in the way of comparison from owners of the R3 that bought the new R5 II.

I'm interested to know if the new R5 II has basically retired your R3 or if you still grab the R3 as your preferred body.

The price points are so similar now that it would be good to hear if one body excels beyond the other.

And if you had to do it again would you sit on the R3 and pass on the R5 II or do you think the R5 II was a good buy?

Shutter Count for R6, R5, RP, R, R100, and maybe others (free)

Please forgive me if this has been posted here before, but I couldn't find it.

I found this on Reddit. It's a small script to run on our cameras that should tell us what we need. On my R6, the numbers are exactly according to my expectations.

Canon basic scripting (free)

The two files in the video are here. To make the card able to run them, download EOSCard.

  1. Format the card in camera. The card needs to be 32GB or less.
  2. Mount the card in Windows and open EOSCard. Choose the card and mark the script checkbox. Close EOSCard.
  3. Unpack the two files you downloaded from here and move them to the card.
  4. Unmount the card.
  5. Install the card in your camera. Second card slot if you have two.
  6. Turn on the camera, go to Playback mode and hit SET. Turn off the camera and, unmount the card and mount it in a computer.

250D, 90D, M5, M50, M50 II, R100, RP, R, R6, R5

On my R6, TotalShoot matches the total of captures I made with my camera since I bought it, whether using MS or ES, but TotalShutter seems to match the mechanical shutter actuations, because its value increments by one everytime I turn my camera on (I have my camera set to close the shutter curtains when powered off), and everytime I take a picture using MS, but it does not change when I take a picture using ES, so I guess we can pretty much subtract "TotalShutter" from "TotalShoot" to get the amount of electronic actuations.

Also, video recording doesn't change the value of "TotalShoot".

The script it pretty simple and you can open it with Notepad.

According to the feedback on YouTube, it does not seem to work with the R6 Mark II.

Update:
So far, I confirmed myself it works at least with the R6, RP and R100.

On cameras that do not feature a complete mechanical shutter, TotalShutter will display a huge number, but TotalShoot will display the total amount of photographs taken.

TotalRunningTime seems to be in seconds.

A petition for the reintroduction of Canon PowerShot G1x Mark 1.

This is a petition to Canon to consider the reintroduction of the PowerShot G1x Mark 1 CMOS 1.5" sensor camera with a faster zoom lens (perhaps with a 25-140mm @ f1.8-3). It was a powerful point and shoot camera of its time having impressive built quality and an unique 1.5" size CMOS sensor-lies in between Micro 4/3 and APSC-packed in a small body that felt substantial in hand. Slightly higher megapixel (approx. 24 MP for 4k 60 and cropping image), digital viewfinder and improved battery life will make it a formidable point and shoot for those who are looking for a small all rounder cameras that can take better photos and videos (especially for social medias) without braking the bank.

RF 24- ?, Which one would you pick up

You are going to buy one, question is which?

  • RF24-70mm F2.8 L IS USM

    Votes: 14 73.7%
  • RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z

    Votes: 4 21.1%
  • RF28-70mm F2 L USM

    Votes: 1 5.3%

The plan is to use it for street, portrait and some landscape if you have it on a body and what to grab a couple frames. You have a EF 35mm (RF adapter), RF 100mm Macro, 70-200mm 2.8 and the 100-500mm.

What would you add to your lens stable?

R5M2 with RF 18-150?

Hi - I put my RF 18-150 on my R5m2 and looked thru the viewfinder and it -seemed- to fill the frame. Since this
lens is "designed for crop factor" I was half expecting it to be less than stellar around the edges unless the camera
is put in crop factor mode. I did not take a picture - probably should have.
I'm hoping that someone here has experience with using this lens on a FF camera and can report results ... ???
