Sample Images From the EOS 7D Mark II

HTML:
<p>Imaging Resource has posted some still life image tests from the Canon EOS 7D Mark II at various ISOs. You can easily compare results with other APS-C cameras on their web site. Below is a sample from the EOS 7D Mark II against the original EOS 7D at ISO 3200. I bet you can spot the difference.</p>

Hi,

I know this question may have been asked many times. However it is interesting to collect minds sometimes.
I am using an APS-C 700D body (why not 7DII in the future) and I am always wondering what will be my next investment or not.

I can't wait to see your opinion about this subject.

Regards

Brand New 300mm f/2.8L IS II or 2nd Hand 400mm f/2.8 L IS

What would you get both being around the same price point?

I like my sports and motor racing, going to the Formula 1 in Melbourne every year I'm a little stuck with what might be better.

Being there's fencing around the whole track, there's not a lot of places with clear view so getting reach past the fence seems to be key for me.

But not just shooting F1, birding or whatever, what would be your pick if you were going to get either one of these lenses?

One is the loneliest number...

I was wondering (actually wanted to post an 'enquete' but was too lazy to figure ou how to do this ::) who uses 2 bodies as their standard set-up and how? What I mean is: do you have two camera bodies in your ag at all ties AND do you use both during most (every) shoot? OR, is that second body your, well, second body used as a back-up for your main camera body just in case something goes wrong? The reason I ask is that I will be moving to Ireland soon (from Japan) and am so looking forward to start a new passion of mine LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY :-X

This means hiking for great distances at times, so I am wondering if a second body (extra weight) is a must for someone investing his tie and energy in getting to a location in the middle of nowhere to shoot some nice pictures?

Thanks for your kind feedback!

Basic help: How does Flash exposure compensation works

Its been very long, I have been playing with flash. But never get serious and until now, I just guess and set FEC to between 0..+1 .

But how does really FEC work with regards to camera exposure.

This is how I thought it work, flash output power release will depend such that it attain the exposure set on FEC.
For example: FEC is set to +1, in camera manual mode, i set camera exposure to 0. thus the amount of flash output will release power enough to make exposure to to +1. (in ETTL mode of course)

Inline with this concept, it follows that when i set FEC to -1,
since camera exposure is 0, the flash should not even fire at all..
but the real result from testing is not like this. flash still outputs and make the scene brighter than 0 exposure..
Thus making my initial concept wrong.

Comment please.. Any expert care to elaborate the concept.. I want to grasp just the concept.

Thanks.

What do you use your wide angle lens for?

I've been wanting to try a wide angle lens for some time now. Obviously the new 16-35mm f4 IS is regarded as a great lens with great IQ so that's the one I'm currently considering buying.

A lot of the wide angle lens info and pictures on the net is about landscape, which won't be my primary usage. I often find that 24mm isn't wide enough for capturing groups of people, especially in confined spaces. Would having an UWA zoom in my kit be a good thing? What do you use your wide angle lens for other than landscapes?

6D and 7D II Combo or 5D III?

Hello CR,

I have browsed the forums for a few years now and am finally making my first post here. I hope I'm not causing another camera vs camera debate, just giving a general observation before an expensive purchase. I feel it makes good sense to ask the experts before doing so...

I’ve been saving for a 5D Mark III and am ready to pull the trigger. Before I do, I am curious what your opinions would be on a 7D II + 6D combo instead of the 5D III? After the announcement of the 7D II, I am beginning to wonder if the 5D III is worth its current price. The 7D II is priced very well looking at the spec list and if the IQ / low light improvements hold true I think Canon has a winner. I know APC-C will not compare to a Full Frame sensor for low light, but “if” it exceeds the 70D it’s going to be a big improvement from the original 7D.

I am currently a 7D user and it’s been a great camera for me, but I would like to upgrade as its beginning to show its age. What I like most about my 7D is its fast AF, ergonomics, and its durability. This is the main reason I decided against a 6D when it was announced in 2012, but as a tech geek I do like the Wi-Fi feature of the 6D and am willing to make some compromises. Also, from what I have seen on this forum I'm pretty impressed with the 6D’s sensor. Comparing image quality from a 6D to a 5D III I really can’t tell the difference.

I find it a little funny that APS-C users in the Nikon forums are expressing their frustration with Nikon over Canon’s release of the 7D II. As it’s what they were hoping for in a D300S replacement (D400). On the other hand I've seen some Canon users (including myself) are somewhat frustrated with Canon’s Full Frame line up and would like to see a comparable body to Nikons new D750. For the price point it’s exactly what I would like… Although, the D750 looks very tempting, I started with Nikon and will never go back based on my past experience. Maybe a 6D II? ;)

My style of shooting is:

40% Urban / Street Photography
40% Landscape and Architecture
20% Portraiture and Action

I do use my DSLR for video.
All of my lenses are EF mount.

Thanks in advance.

7Dii + 400 f/5.6 + Canon 1.4TC =?

As excited as I am about some of the 7Dii's features, I am equally unfamiliar with them.

This auto focus at f/8.0 on the centre AF point is interesting to me.

I understand that with a Canon 1.4x TC III, I can get 896mm and the camera will still maintain auto focus. So essentially I get larger magnification without losing AF.

So a few natural questions would be, is there loss of other AF capabilities, such as ITR and just how much of an IQ penalty will I experience by attaching a 1.4x TC to my beloved Canon EOS 400mm f/5.6? Has anybody got experience of shooting the 400mm with a 1.4x TC?

What else do I need to know? What questions haven't I asked that is relative to this setup and more importantly, if I was standing next to you in a photography retailer, about to pull the trigger on a Canon 1.4x TC for the above setup, would you stop me or encourage me to buy one?

7D Mark II Video Tested By Gizmodo

HTML:
<p>Gizmodo has published a comparative video test against the EOS 5D Mark III & EOS 70D. It basically solidifies what cinematographers and videographers have been saying since the launch of the EOS 7D Mark II; it’s not a camera for them.</p>
<p><iframe src="//player.vimeo.com/video/106524090" width="500" height="281" frameborder="0" title="Canon 7D Mark II Video Comparison" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>I’m starting to think that Canon is going to be expanding Cinema EOS to the prosumer level, and will not be developing the photographer DSLR for that market. That sort of approach could payoff, as they could focus ergonomics and software to the video segment. This could also lead to people buying multiple EOS mount products. If you can’t get new customers, at least sell more stuff to the people that are already your customer, I’m borrowing from <a href="http://www.bythom.com/" target="_blank">Thom Hogan</a> on that one.</p>

Invested In 3 Different Systems

So I was recently presented with the opportunity to trade out my seldom used 24-70II for a Fuji Xt-1 w/ kit lens and 56/1.2.

I am now officially invested in systems with Canon (6D and EOS M), Sony (A7r), and Fuji (xt-1 and x100s).

As ridiculous as the initial thought of being bought into all these systems was, I am now finding that they all have their respective uses for what I do. While I understand that it is not necessary to have all of it to get the job done, it is nice to have the option of choosing the best tool for the job when needed.

An unexpected side effect of getting the xt-1.....I'm once again reminded that I really can't stand the shooting experience of the Sony (even more so now).

Personally, I think the squirrel shot at ISO 3200 looks at least a stop or two better than the 7D but the ISO 6400 night shot of the city doesn't look so hot.

6D shutter button question.

The question is whether it's alright that my 6d won't focus if i press the shutter button fully without hesitation?
I mean, usually i PREpress it to let my camera focus, then BEEP-BEEP and you can shoot, but recently I noticed that on 5d mark III one can just press the button straight down and when the focus is locked it will take a pic.

If I press it like that the camera just stops searching focus points, neither takes pictures.

Though when I press it just a bit smoothy it's alright because there's enough time to lock any focusing point.

A New EOS Pro Body With 46mp Next Month? [CR1]

A <a href="http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1318815/0" target="_blank">thread has popped up on a forum</a> talking about a 46mp pro Canon DSLR being launched in New York City in October for PhotoPlus. Friends beat up my 70-200ii (and paid me for it) - should I buy a new one?

Hey all,

I got a 70-200 f/2.8L IS II about 4 years ago. I didn't use it that much (maybe once every 2-3 months), so I lent it to some wedding videography friends. Since they were making money off of my lens, I charged them, but a cheap "friends rate" of $25/wedding (approx 1 every 2 weeks). Over 4 years, they've paid me out like $2000. Not sure why they didn't buy their own, but my "friends rate" was a steal. Anyways, I could buy one new for $1800 when a good deal appears.

It doesn't get tack-sharp focus any more. I've tried microadjusting on a couple focus charts and even during concerts (during artists that I don't care about). I find myself using my 300mm f/4L IS or 200mm f/2.8 II because my 70-200ii just isn't as sharp as it used to be.

Should I send it in? Or should I sell it and just buy a new one? I'm leaning towards selling it, because I don't really want it any more given its exterior condition, even if the optics were fixed.

Sigma at Photokina 2014

HTML:
<p>Sigma announced 3 lenses, 2 teleconverters, filters and a new Quattro camera, and we were able to play around with the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 OS Sport lens. They did not have the contemporary lens on display.</p>
<p>The new sport lens is built to the same standard as the 120-300 f/2.8 OS lens that Sigma released over a year ago. The focus and zoom rings are extremely smooth, and the autofocus was relatively quick on the 5D Mark III I borrowed to try the lens out with. The weight is well balanced and the lens doesn’t expand as much as I thought it would when zooming to 600mm.</p>
<p>There’s definitely a space in the market between the Tamron 150-600 f/5-6.3 VC ($1100) and the Canon EF 600 f/4L IS ($12,000). The added reach will also sway a lot of Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS ($1700) prospective buyers over to the Sigma camp if the autofocus can perform up the standards most birders and field sport photographers demand.</p>
<p>I suspect the contemporary version will be priced in the $1200 range, but we’ll have to wait on the official word from Sigma.</p>

<p>As you can see from the image above, the Sigma 150-600 f/5-6.3 OS Sports series lens is bulkier and longer. Sigma told us that the lens is better built for the elements, autofocus performance and optical quality.
