Ok, you know you're near the saturation, and how do you use that information? Remember you intended to combine two pixels data into one. But you got 7 photons/electrons instead of 8. But you know you lost some information. And?..Actually, it's the other way around. On a sensor with smaller pixels in your example, you know that you are near the saturation. On a sensor with bigger pixels, this information is lost.
