Nope! That was the 200D/SL2. Compare the sizes:

Size new Rebel: W129.0 mm × H 101.6 mm × D 77.1 mm
Size 200D/SL2: W 122,4 x H 92,6 x D 69,8 mm

In all dimensions significantly smaller. 200D/SL2 volume is about 22 % smaller. And keep in mind, that it is some % bigger than the 100D/SL1.

I’m guessing that Canon is shutting down the production line for the 18MP sensor and this is part of the move over to a newer sensor on their entry level body. Whether it’ll be the 20MP or 24MP sensor will be interesting, as they are currently offering seven DSLRs below the 80D (200D, 1300D, 700D, 750D, 760D, 77D). Granted that one of these is niche (200D) and not all the others are current production, but they are all being offered new via Canon’s authorised dealer network.

Even I’m confused by this mish-mash of different generations, features and price points. Is demand that price elastic that it requires models that are $50 apart? Or is it just that Canon is still massively overproducing entry-level bodies in the hope that this segment will pick up again as the global economy recovers? If they are not careful, they’ll end up having Nikon-1 style fire sales that will do nothing but undermine the value proposition of their latest models.

The silver dial looks like the one on the T1i. As it's a certification unit, I'd bet Canon still has silver dials on stock.

Doesn't look like much. I might be inclined to buy one if it retails for $199. Assuming that it has the 24MP DPAF sensor.

Canon needs to do a lot of work to overhaul their DSLR APS-C lineup (and mirrorless isn't much better). It's almost looking like desperation at this point - throwing out new models every 3 months in hopes that one will gain traction in the market. Maybe they just have a surplus of APS-C sensors. As far as DSLRs go, I say consolidate the SL series and Rebel series. Move the 45-point AF system and enhanced processing power of the Rebel to the SL body. Drop the 77D, it's a very awkward camera from a price positioning perspective between the Rebel and 80D. Keep the x0D line, hopefully the 90D will impress us all at CP+. And keep the 7D series as well; the 7D appears to be the only APS-C model that Canon really puts some thought into before rolling out a new model.

why do people make this out to be so complicated or filled with dire messages of gloom.

Canon's since Feb 2015 had four rebel lines.

SL1->SL2
T5->T6 and now what looks to be the T7
750D->800D
760D->77D

we're talking 3 years ago and people are acting as if this is a new thing.

T6 (T7) has always been the lowest price point. usually sold in kits for less than 400 bucks. don't expect much. complain less.

as far desperation. My god, some of the comments sure are filled with it. Good grief.

people should try and note, there's more places in the world than the united states of america. some cameras sell better in other markets, than do others. not all cameras have to be brushed with a navel gaze approach.
