+1, my feelings exactly. The 1D X meets all my current needs - the only other thing I might want is more MP and the 5Ds R takes care of that if and when I need it.neuroanatomist said:

I will pre-order as soon as it goes on sale.
Then I will be able to work in every post, my 1Dx II will do this, or that it's better than the body others may own.
It will compliment my 5Ds R, and I can say things like "if I need resolution I go with MY 5Ds R, if I need speed I go with my 1Dx II".
Then on vacation I can walk close to other tourist with DSLR and let out those 16fps bursts. That will let them know who's on top.
I am looking forward to these features.

I am most excited in seeing the real specs as released by Canon.
Then I will be interested to see if they made any monumental, cringe-worthy, mistakes such as limiting 4K recording to three minutes.

To me it is to see what innovation Canon brings to the party, and what will trickle down the line eventually. At the moment there is not really any camera (from any manufacturer) I want to buy, though I am in the progress of upgrading. Perhaps I am most interested in AF progress (accuracy) and sensor tech.

I had high hopes for the 1Dx II as we started to hear about some of the technology that Canon has patented and may have in development. I was not expecting revolution, but I was hoping for aggressive evolution. I was ready to plunk down my credit card the minute we had an announcement and B&H opened pre-orders. Based on the most current "rumored" specifications, I don't see any single feature (other than maybe 4k video) that screams "I will significantly enable your creativity". While the rumored spec indicates there are some really great improvements that make for an overall better camera, there is nothing that jumps out as a significant step forward. I also am not a fan of the CFast + CF card strategy, I would much rather they had driven a stake in the ground and moved both slots to Cfast. When you read the spec, it is not that different from the 1dx - ISO range the same, number of AF points the same, very slight increase in MPx, FPS, and LCD resolution (playback of 4k?). The thing that will impress me the most will be the details on the sensor and the impact it has on noise profile and DR. I shoot a lot of nature / wildlife, so DR is important but I would much prefer clean images at high ISO. I do really like the increased buffer size, AF @ F8 on all points, 360,000 dot sensor, etc. All of these are nice, but should be expected after 3 years.
I am looking forward to Canon's announcement on Mon/Tue with detail on the new features. I have no doubt that the 1Dx II will be an incredible camera and a step up from the 1Dx. I don't currently own a 1Dx and was waiting for the release so I could make the move up from 5dIII. I have shot the 1Dx a lot and it will be interesting to see if current owners feel this is a worthy upgrade. I am sure the 1Dx II is in my future once I get over the issues I have with Canon's technology and financial conservatism.
BTW - with the information so close to the 1dx, does anyone feel like we are being played and something a little more interesting may be announced. I question that a 1Dx II has the same exact exact weight as the 1Dx when you factor in the addition of GPS, different media module, etc. I am sure the tis wistful thinking.

For me it is DPAF and its advancement. How far is it improved compared to the one on the C100 or 70D?
I see this as the technology that would separate Canon from others, if they make it work "flawlessly".
It would allow us to discover domain of both photography and videography that hasn't been explored vastly before. This includes the idea of stills from 4K video, face recognition on L glasses, and tack continuous sharp focus on very shallow dof for both video and live view especially in low light.
Standard photography can be done with the current 1DX, if they want me to spend more money, they need to deliver a technology that the current cannot do at all, especially if Canon would be the only one who delivers it in their own way. Everybody can do 4K, everybody can do low light, everybody can have spread focusing point, etc. Make me stand out and my pocket will be yours.

The big unknown is sensor performance. Are there improvements? Is there on-chip ADC? How many of the patents did we just see go by get incorporated? The chance for something revolutionary is still there, although I agree with something I read here yesterday, in that we might see revolution someplace else first. The 1D series is the tried/true/proven/workhorse.
With the specs as they are, I actually see several very nice upgrades. Bigger spread of the AF points and 4K 60 fps are phenomenal. As I do not personally know much about video, I am gathering that the CFast card is a good sign as it implies that we might have better codec/video compression. Having f/8 at more the center point is excellent. It depends on what the DPAF does, but if it allows for fast/accurate AF during Liveview bursts and high quality AF during video, this is also excellent and I can see people who actually use those features rave about it. Two more fps, cool. GPS, ok I have always seen that as more of a consumer feature, but the more I think about it there might be a high end professional demand as well. Knowing where in the stadium shots are coming from while sorting tons of shots by large agencies, for example (maybe?).
All in all, this appears to be a worthy successor with what is known and there is still upside as we learn about the sensor and how some of the features perform. Of course, I am also assuming nothing, like 4K video, is crippled in some way.

Wonder if the developing a camera is sort of like the iPhone?
Every other generation is a big improvement, in between are incremental improvements? R&D takes a long time on a camera like this and BIG ideas take time to develop and perfect.

Honestly I've been very happy with the 1DX. My only issue is apparently being addressed, i.e. being able to have a reduced noise signature. 14FPS should be great for the hummingbirds this May but I liked getting shots of the fawns coming into the watering hole for a drink and always held off(or used the 5D MK III) to avoid spooking them. Still, I haven't heard the 'silent' mode in person so have no idea exactly how silent it will be. Couple of extra MP's, nice. Better AF, great.
