We’re told that Canon will announce the PowerShot G17 some time in May. That is an extremely fast refresh from the PowerShot G16, which was announced last August. The PowerShot G16 was a very minor refresh from the G15.

Specifications

24-200mm f/1.4-2.0 lens

New 1″ Sensor

all magnesium body with comfortable grip

DIGIC 6

The lens looks pretty impressive if this turns out to be true.

Nice. Wish the lens was faster though.
Hah hah! Agree, f/1.4-f2.0 is a little slow these days... ;) Nice if true.

I've had a few Gxx over the years and never kept them for long. If these are the specs of the release G17 I'll certainly be back for another G experience.

At least part of this rumour must be BS, unless the camera is huge! The Sony RX10 is bridge/superzoom size and has a 1" sensor and a 24-200 (equivalent) f/2.8 lens; how big would a G17 be with a lens of the same focal length but f/1.4-f/2? Sorry, but I'm calling shenanigans -everyone grab a broom!

I agree. The G-1x has a 1 inch sensor and a more modest lens and , while compact, is a lot bulkier than the G-16. A camera with these specs would be substantial.

The G1x has a 1.5" sensor that is much larger than the 1" sensor.

If the spec is true, how big will the filter be??? Sony RX10 is already using a 63mm filter for the f 2.8 (24 to 200mm equilvalent) lens. The lens itself will be a monster for the G17. Sony already selling the RX10 at $1300. With a faster lens, what will be the pricing for the "G17"??
