In our previous mention of a released date for the EOS 7D replacement, we speculated it would be some time during the week of September 8, 2014. However a couple of people have said the embargo will actually end at midnight on Friday, September 5, 2014 EST. Photokina begins about 10 days later in Cologne, Germany.

This sounds reasonable, as it allows the week of booth setup in Germany without trying to hide marketing material like signs and banners.

Bring it on. And if there is a substantial improvement in sensor technology (by every one else's standards but Canon), let us know when that will percolate up the line, especially to the 5D and 1D series.

Would be awesome if 1DX II can do nice & clean @ 25000ISO.

Too late for me :( I needed one in my hand by the announcement date, so I've just bought a 5DIII. Hey ho. I hope the 7D2 is all that it's cracked up to be, as it'll be handy in a few years time when I've saved up enough for a another safari.

jrista has an advanced case of the astrophotography bug. That's an expensive bug to catch, at least if you give it full freedom to grow. ;D I would be more worried about catching this bug, but unfortunately I live in an area with less frequent clear skies, lots of light pollution, and I don't function too well on little sleep, so my AP window of opportunity is Fridays and Saturdays.

On the other hand, telescopes keep getting better for less money.
