What are your hopes for the 5D Mark V and R II? No DR silliness allowed. No removable mirror box wierdness allowed either.

Will this be the point where you split into mirrorless? Or will you be staying with the DSLR? They both have their own unique positives and negatives.

Canon News is the first to report that Canon has added five new image sensors to their lineup for third party applications. A few of the sensors look like they already existed in previous Canon products.

It seems discussions about dual slots are always somewhat controversial but I found this article that has some great points.


A few personal comments for single card cameras: I don't exactly agree with tethering though as I find it terribly unreliable or inconvenient. A separate backup device is highly recommended, but I wouldn't use a WD Passport Pro (or Lacie Copilot) as both are exceptionally slow and not really suited for pro work. There are much better solutions offered by Gnarbox and NextoDI (which I use) which also has CFAST and UHS-II support and are SSD based. They can also do a dual copy and verify at the same time.

For all the bleating Canon trolls to think about.

I have been playing with C-RAW with the 90D because it gives half the file size and twice the burst. I haven’t noticed any loss in IQ but haven’t tried serious tests yet. On opening with Adobe RAW and saving as a DNG file, the file size is the same as .CR3 RAW file conversion. I’d appreciate the expert opinion on how much is lost by the C-RAW compression.

Hello,

I recently switched from Fuji to the Canon RP and am loving the camera. The feel and controls just feel intuitive to me.

I picked up the camera September 6th and have used it fairly frequently for family events and just general outings. I went to use it yesterday and it would not power up. I tried hard resets and also contacted Canon, no luck! Fortunately Best Buy deemed it defective and I will have a new camera today.

Has anyone else experienced this?

We have been told that Canon still has plans to update its most popular professional full-frame camera, the EOS 5D Mark IV.
The EOS 5D Mark V apparently appeared on an internal roadmap, along with an EOS R Mark II, the source did not provide the timeline of the roadmap.
We think it makes a lot of sense to see another iteration of the EOS 5D DSLR, along with a similarly specced EOS R Mark II.
With all of the new cameras expected in 2020 from Canon, I don’t see either the EOS 5D Mark IV or EOS R replacement coming before Q4 of 2020.

So I currently shoot wedding dancefloors on the 5D4 with the 16-35mm attached at F8. As a result the focal distance at 1.5 metres giving me a hyperfocal distance from about .5 metres through to 4 metres.

Sometimes I'd like more sensitivity without cranking the ISO so for those in the know, if I was to trade out the 5D4 for a 90D with the same lens would I get the same focal range with the same settings at a wider aperture (like F/6.3) as I do at F8 with the 5D4?

I am hearing things from less noise, to less DR in highlights. From it is the same as ISO 100 if you drop down a stop in post. I stayed away from it in shooting but now that I am transitioning to primes and the 28-70 2.0, for outdoor and studio, I have more use for it than ever.

A lot of people were still holding out hope that the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM would have an internal zoom like its EF brother. Sometimes hope overpowers common sense.

Z-mount, 20.9 Mpx, tilting screen, 11 fps, 30p 4K movie at £849 announced this morning. It’s going to have a tough time against the M6 II.

I posted this deep in another thread but thought it made some sense to add as a new one....

Micro SD cards are harder to handle but you can get UHS II and 512GB versions so technically no performance hurdle. Would you buy a dual card adaptor for your single slot camera if redundancy is important but not critical to warrant 2 R bodies?

The Sony Pro Duo memory stick was/is so expensive that there are adaptors for 2 x micro SD cards in one pro duo card. These are quite old now and only used as sequential/additional memory ie not mirrored/redundant
Pro duo dimensions are slightly physically smaller than a SD card so in theory a SD adaptor could hold 2 x Micro SD cards giving us the infamous dual SD card redundancy. SD card 32x24x2.1mm vs Pro duo 31x20x1.6mm vs Micro SD 15x11x1mm

There are a couple of threads discussing the option below. Summary is:
- Possible to do technically.
- Additional points of failure but would solve the failed card scenario.
- Could increase the latency.
- Could be much more complex/power etc if a RAID server/buffer is the solution vs a FIFO solution.
Nothing on the market at this time but I imagine that there would be some pent up market demand for such a product and probably more than a pro duo card market

In the bad old film days with underwater photography, if you wanted >36 shots you needed 2 bodies + housings (strobes) for additional storage or redundancy against flooding!

because if you start playing around with them, you will end up with a couple of them, some pro and premium lenses, and start to get rid of your much larger DLSR hardware.

I now own the OMD-EM1 MK1 with grip, OMD-EM5 MKII with grip, and the OMD-EM1 MKII
as well as a couple pro line lenses and the 25mm F1.8 premium lens.

Bought the older EM1 MK1 and EM5-MKII with grips dirt cheap at a local cam store, and then after a few weeks of using them, I decided to purchase the EM1 MKII as well.

I have come to the conclusion that for every day shooting, I will be an Oly user, but will keep my EOS R for astro use.

traded in my 80D, 1D MKIV and my 7D and will keep the Eos R

IF you love your big Canon's and Nikon's and large lenses, you might not after giving m4/3rds an honest try out.
