New Expansion Unit thread disappeared?

Ha...I had a very astute comment all cued up and the article on a new Expansion Unit just disappeared...poof. Oh well...you heard it here first....From a functionality perspective, this would appear to be an "EU-V2" for the C300MkIII, as the functionality looks to be about the same as the existing unit...except that it's adding 4 channels of sound input. This may indicate that the C300II body doesn't have XLRs built in, and would need this unit for that capability...

EOS R time lapse questions

Is there any setting within the time lapse function of the EOS R that would allow me to capture an outdoor scene that goes from day to night? I set the time lapse to re-evaluate the exposure for each frame, but there still seems to be a limit to how much the camera can (or will) adjust exposure during a time lapse. Initially I just set the time lapse video mode to smart auto, thinking it could adjust shutter speed, aperture, and ISO as much as it needed to maintain a good exposure. However, the shutter in auto mode seems to max out at what the camera feels would be a safe shutter speed for hand-held shooting. Is there a way to adjust this? Obviously pretty much any time lapse will be taken with a camera being held totally stationary, so it's frustrating that the camera cannot seem to allow me to set it to use shutter speeds slower than a hand held shutter speed. I even tried setting it to shutter speed priority mode and forcing it to use a 1 second shutter at all times. I figured I could put an ND filter in front of the camera during the day, and then remove it at night. However for some reason I don't think the camera varies the aperture in time lapse mode when the camera is set to shutter priority setting.

Also, I tried to run a two day long time lapse yesterday, but for some reason the camera seems to have stopped recording overnight last night. Again, I have no idea why. I'm running it off of a third party AC adapter, so batteries are not an issue. Oddly, the battery meter on the camera sometimes shows only two bars, and if left on for a while, it flashes red, even on this wall adapter. What is the deal with that? Maybe this caused my timelapse to be cut short? However, the time lapse was saved up to the point it cut out, leading me to believe that it wasn't a power failure, otherwise I would have expected to lose the whole time lapse.

IBIS coming to EOS M in 2020 [CR1]

I recently reported that two EOS M cameras were scheduled to launch in 2020, one is a follow-up to the very popular EOS M50, the other is apparently going to be above the EOS M6 Mark II, but this source claims that it won’t be an EOS M5 Mark II.
The higher-end EOS M camera will reportedly come equipped with IBIS, something we’ll see first in the upcoming EOS R5 and EOS R6.
The EOS M50 Mark II will not have IBIS according to this source.
This is a [CR1] rumor, please treat it accordingly.

Counting down my five favorite Canon digital cameras ever. Coming in at #1…..

….. The Canon EOS-1D X Series
Wow, what a cop-out!
No, not really, I didn’t think having three EOS-1D X cameras in the top 5 was all that interesting or proper. Each camera has been just like the one before it as far as ergonomics and usability, but they continue to evolve in all the areas that are important. Every EOS-1D X camera is a viable tool today, you won’t be upset buying an original EOS-1D X today.
I have owned and used and abused the EOS-1D X and EOS-1D X Mark II, I also own the EOS-1D X Mark III, however, the current global landscape has prevented me from traveling with the new king of the DSLR.
It’s going to be really interesting to see how Canon carries over the ergonomics of the EOS-1 series of DSLRs into a professional flagship mirrorless camera.
Canon EOS-1D X Specifications:

18.1mp Full-Frame CMOS Sensor
ISO 100 – 51200
12fps
61 Autofocus Points
14bit RAW
Dual DIGIC 5+ Processors
Dual CF Card Slots
Launched in 2012
Launch price: $6799usd

Counting down my five favorite Canon digital cameras ever. Coming in at #2…..

….. The Canon EOS 40D
This was my main camera when I became “serious” about photography. I shot with the EOS Rebel 300D and EOS 30D in relatively quick succession and then landed on the EOS 40D. I hadn’t yet used a camera with professional autofocus capabilities, so that didn’t matter to me at the time. Though my move to the EOS-1D Mark III came about a year after shooting tens of thousands of images with the EOS 40D.
I ended up doing some professional work with this camera, and shot mainly with the EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM, EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM, EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM and an EF 24mm f/1.4L USM.
The EOS 50D and EOS 60D that followed the EOS 40D were less than stellar upgrades in my eyes. Until the EOS 70D was launched, I would tell people to save their money and just grab the 40D unless they could afford to move to the EOS 7D.
My love for this camera, which I still own is likely one based on nostalgia, but I’m ok with that. I don’t honestly shoot with it anymore...

Multipurpose prime for low light photography?

I’ve been considering buying a lens for low light photography and shallow dept of field. Budget is around 600. I’m going to use it mainly to photograph my family but I’m also hoping for lens that could give me some artistic options in nature photography. I also do some videography but that's not the main point. I currently own Canon EOS R and rf 24-105 f4. I have also access to ef 85 1.2L when I need to take portrait kind of shots.

My current options are

a) wait for new rumored more budget friendly rf 50

b) Sigma 50 art 1.4.

c) Canon ef 35 f2 IS

d) Canon rf 35 1.8 macro

Any advice or experience about the lenses? I need to make decision by the end of July.

(I edited list - it used to be like this:

b) Sigma 50 art 1.4.

….. The Canon EOS 5D Mark III
This is when I think the EOS 5D series came into its own as a professional and consumer workhorse. We finally got a professional autofocus system in the 5D line of DSLRs. I think everything came together on this camera, and I still use it today.
I wasn’t into video, so I never used the Canon EOS 5D Mark II on a regular basis, and that archaic 9-point AF system was the dealbreaker for me on that camera. During the era of the EOS 5D Mark II, I was shooting primarily with the Canon EOS-1D Mark III and Canon EOS-1D Mark IV.
The EOS 5D Mark III launch was also the coming-out party for this site, so I’ll always have a special place in my heart for the camera!
Canon EOS 5D Mark III Specifications:

22.3mp Full-Frame CMOS Sensor
ISO 100 – 6400
6.0fps
61 Autofocus Points

Counting down my five favorite Canon digital cameras ever. Coming in at #4…..

….. The Canon EOS 5D
Another revolution digital camera from Canon came in the form of the Canon EOS 5D. This was the first “affordable” full-frame camera. The only other full-frame Canon DSLR at this time was the Canon EOS-1Ds and Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II.
The Canon EOS 5D launched in 2005 for $3299usd, which was more than half as much as the launch price of the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II ($7999usd).
I never owned a Canon EOS 5D, but I did borrow one most weekends from the photography store I once worked at. It was my first experience with “full-frame”, film or digital. I loved the bigger viewfinder and how truly wide 17mm was when shooting with the EF 17-40mm f/4L USM, which lead me to purchase an EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5.4.5 USM for my APS-C main camera.
Canon EOS 5D Specifications:

12.8mp Full-Frame CMOS Sensor
ISO 100 – 1600
3.0fps
9 Autofocus Points
12bit RAW
DIGIC II Processor
CF Card Slot
Launched in 2005

Canon delays the ship date for the upcoming Canon EOS Rebel T8i/850D

According to DC Watch, Canon has announced that they are delaying the ship date for the Canon EOS Rebel T8i/850D which was announced back in February.
The original shipping month was April, but it looks like the new Rebel won’t begin shipping until June at the earliest.
I have no up to date information about manufacturing challenges currently facing Canon amid the pandemic, but I would think that the Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6 may see some delays and/or minimal quantities available at launch.

10x zoom
1.5x built-in extender
Detachable servo unit
Compatible with both Super35 and Full- Frame sensors

I also expect the Canon Cinema EOS C300 Mark III to be announced at the same time.
Update: This is the CN 10×25 that has appeared in Canon’s product listings.

Counting down my five favorite Canon digital cameras ever. Coming in at #5…..

….. The Canon EOS Digital Rebel/300D
This was the first sub $1000usd Digital SLR to hit the market and the first Digital SLR (or SLR for that matter) that I ever purchased.
An added bonus was the hacked firmware that would add some of the Canon EOS 10D features to the Canon EOS 300D.
Canon EOS 300D Specifications:

6.3mp APS-C CMOS sensor
ISO 100 – 1600
2.5fps
7 Autofocus Points
12bit RAW
DIGIC Processor
CF Card Slot
Launched in 2003
Launch Price: $999usd

The first lens I had mated to this camera was the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, which I thought was fine until I purchased my first L lens, the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM, That first L lens purchase was quickly followed by another L zoom, the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM.
I used this camera for about a year before moving up to the Canon EOS 30D.

Here’s an interview I did with The Ordinary Filmmaker

I did an interview with Simon from the Ordinary Filmmaker YouTube channel yesterday. We talked a bit about the history of Canon Rumors as well as the EOS R5, EOS R6, and other Canon gear.
I apologize that my audio isn’t great, as the external microphone I had refused to work with any level of reliability.

I think my 1Dx mark 3 is Slow

I just received my new 1Dx mark 3 and updated the firmware but it seem like I’m able to fill up the buffer after 150 continuous Raw shots also it’s saying my C fast express card isn’t fast enough to record 4K video. Does anybody else have this issue? I’m currently using 2 120gig prograde cards

Venus Laowa 15mm f/4 Wide Angle 1:1 Macro Lens with Shift : Anyone familiar with this lens?

Hi all,

I caught some YouTube videos showing what looks to be a very interesting lens...1:1 macro that is wide angle, allowing for you to not only get close to your main object, but also include a lot of background too.....seems this would present for some very interesting compositions.

Here's a link to it at Amazon:
Venus Laowa 15mm f/4 Wide Angle 1:1 Macro Lens with Shift for Canon EF Mount

It seems to be $499 everywhere....B&H isn't taking orders till Saturday....
Amazon not delivering earliest till Wed, due to virus priority shipments, etc....

So, not in my usual impulsive "I gotta have it tomorrow" mode...haha.

Anyway, so far my research shows it to be generally well reviewed...and it looks very unique and I'm starting to generate an interest in macro as something to do while trapped at home.

I have the Canon 100L Macro....and am breaking that out this weekend to experiment with, but this wide angle macro looks interesting.

Thoughts? Experience with this out there?

Thank you in advance,

cayenne

Best creative mode (other than M) for E-TTL flash photography

Hi,

I am a beginner in flash photography and I have recently bought an EOS RP. I have a flash (Godox TT 685C) and I am experimenting with it. I would like to know which creative modes (Av/Tv/P/Fv) is the best to use for flash photography with E-TTL? Will these be different say if one uses flash in different ways i.e. fill vs non-fill? Also, some years back when I was using flash in E-TTL with a EOS T2i/550D, I was getting darker results with flash in a particular mode (I don't remember which one it was). When I changed the mode then the images came out brighter. Is it that that mode prioritized for ambient light and then added flash?

I apologize if the question has been asked before. I will be grateful for help/advice.

Thanks and Regards
Suman
