Pairing a R10 with my existing RP??

Already have a RP, plus M6ii, M5 and SL2. They all use the same battery LP-E17, needless to say I have plenty.
I currently only own the RF 16 & 50 but will be adding the new 28 pancake when it’s released.

The RP is fine, fits my needs and wants. I’d just sometimes like more reach, but don’t want bigger lenses. So considering a R10 for the crop factor with my existing RF lenses. I do have plenty of EF and EF-S lenses to adapt.

Yes, if I were rolling in money I’d grab both R5 and R7 but I just cannot justify the outlay and tbh I prefer the lighter and simpler body’s these days.

So my question is, in my shoes would you go for the R10 or should I bide my time and grab the newer R8 and if needs be use that in crop mode, much less resolution but vastly improved AF over my RP.

Advice…

Any active G16 users here??

I picked up a perfect G16 a few years ago for…£60!! It was supposed to be a holiday camera but my Lumix TZ70 won in the end so the G16 has pretty much laid dormant
However we’ve just booked another holiday (Portugal) in July.
As much as I’d love to take a “proper” camera I know it would be a massive inconvenience and most likely despite good intentions would remain in the hotel room.

So, my 3 choices are:

G16

Lumix TZ70

M50 18-150

Or

My guilty pleasure my beloved 6D/40 stm!!

I’m constantly trying to figure what’s the most practical and will grab those family candids and possibly tourist shots

Any advice??

Flash Wise, What's Next

Flash Wise, What's next?

From a professional standpoint.

The 600EX is discontinued.
The EL-1 is backordered everywhere (@danfaz brought this to my attention elsewhere)
The EL-5 Should be released next month, but doesn't work on R5 or R6 without MFS) (Unless some kind of magic firmware update happens) A big one < doubtful
The EL-10 (rumored) never happened - https://www.canonrumors.com/forum/threads/a-canon-speedlite-el-10-is-coming-in-2021-cr2.39845/

While most will use these flashes off camera, there are going to be times when someone wants to put something more than a 430EX RT on their R5/6, but less than an EL-1

I don't see Canon leaving the flash space. 3rd party flashes cannot be controlled in the camera menus. There has to be something in the pipeline, just not sure what it is yet.

Green cast in photos taken on a Canan R5 at high ISO

Hi, I have noticed that when shooting at high ISO, 51.2K or 32K, there is a green cast that shows up on the image and other colors don't show up as much. I find it hard to reduce it. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to reduce the amount of green in the photo. So far, I have simply made them B&W and left it at that. Please see the attached image which is an example image shot at 51200 ISO.

RF extenders with EF lenses

Hi everyone,

I have a Canon R6, some RF lenses and some EF lenses, and I was considering buying a TC 1.4x and/or 2x.
I read the "RF and EF extenders on the EF 600/4L IS II" post with great interest.

I was kinda surprised to not see more posts about that topic, as it seems great to be able to use the top dog TC on any EF lenses (personnally I'd be curious to see how a Sigma 135 1.8 performs with it).

So, my question is: what am I missing ?

Looking forward to your pointers,

Nicolas

Buying a R3 or R5 in May 2023?

Hi everyone,
after many years of amateur photography, including the last few with the Canon 5D Mark III, I am considering transitioning to the Mirrorless system. However, the timing (May 2023) seems a bit particular because of the rising rumors of new models. So I would like to discuss with you the doubts that are holding me back from making a purchase nowdays:
  1. The most suitable model for my type of photography would be the R5. I mainly take travel photos, landscapes, nature shots, and outdoor portraits. Recently, I have also been capturing outdoor sports activities of my daughter (equestrian). I love sharpness and details, and I'm sure that the R5's 45 megapixels, combined with the EF L-series lenses I already have (which I would keep) and future RF lenses (which I would purchase), would provide me with great satisfaction. However, we are talking about a 2020 model, and there are already rumors about a possible Mark II version being released soon...
  2. Needless to say, I am very attracted to the R3. Like many of you, I have read and watched comparisons between the R5 and R3, and each time the R3 comes out on top. The work Canon has done on this camera is truly exceptional in my opinion, and the recent price drop makes it affordable for me. As an owner of lenses with a significant weight (e.g., EF 85mm f/1.2L II, EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II) and interested in a future purchase of an RF telephoto zoom that reaches 400mm or 500mm, I would like the idea of investing in a body with good balance. Besides, I have always used the battery grip on the 5D, so I am accustomed to the weight and grip. The doubt that is holding me back from purchasing the R3 is not the technology onboard, which I believe will remain valid for a long time, but rather the 24 megapixels resolution. Making such an investment today without granting myself a significant upgrade in detail seems like a missed opportunity at this point in the journey.

So, I've tried to share my doubts with you. Buying a R5, or R3, or just wait... I hope someone who is (or has been) in my same situation can help me with some valuable advice!

Thank you all. Maurizio

So I bought a 200mm f1.8 and...

I bought a 200mm f1.8 on eBay. Described as working perfectly and cosmetically near perfect. Shipped over from Japan. It looks GREAT. Cosmetically its a 9.9 out of ten.

And it works, but it autofocuses in a strange manner. It finds AF, but then seems to dance around it, and it makes noise (sound). I'm using Servo mode like I always do. The photos seems sharp as a tac. I've tried it on an R3, an R7, and an RP. I've tried 3 different canon RF to EF adapters. Results are all the same.

My question is this normal? The lens was released in 1988. It's 35 year old tech.

Leica Vario-Elmar-SL 100-400mm f/5-6.3 vs Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8

ePhotozine has just reviewed the Leica 100-400mm https://www.ephotozine.com/article/leica-vario-elmar-sl-100-400mm-f-5-6-3-lens-review-36495 and I thought it would be interesting to compare it with their review of the RF 100-400mm https://www.ephotozine.com/article/canon-rf-100-400mm-f-5-6-8-is-usm-lens-review-36026
Price in the UK: Leica 3x (£1970 vs £645).
Weight: Leica 2.5x (1.620 kg vs 635g, more than the RF 100-500mm).
MTF 400mm f/8: Leica circa 0.5x - see my replots of the ePhotozine data. The Leica is on the 24 Mpx SL2-S, and the Canon on the 20 Mpx R6.
The Leica has high water resistance, but is totally killed by the Canon for resolution, price and weight. It is even described as being clumsy to use because of its weight, and will break the lens or your tiles if dropped! I can't believe they rate it 4 stars and recommended.
