We haven’t forgotten about the Canon EOS R1, and you probably haven’t either [CR2]

Almost immediately after the Canon EOS R3 was announced, people were already asking about the Canon EOS R1, Canon’s future flagship camera.
We haven’t heard much about it in recent months, as Canon rolled out the Canon EOS R10 and Canon EOS R7 and a couple of RF-S lenses.
We have been told that the Canon EOS R1 is scheduled for the 2nd half of 2023 for an announcement and that we could see teasers beginning in the spring.
The latest information says that Canon’s new flagship will be the “new resolution king” as...

Opinions of EF 100mm f2.8 USM 2002 model compared to 2009 and later

Hi, Appreciate being able to join this forum. I was wondering if anyone has owned and compared several EF 100 or other macro lens or even the RF version and noticed much difference in the versions on this macro lens. After reading DXOMark it seems really only the IBIS is improved. I am using the EF 2002 version on an APSC M50 and even with long exposures at f32 the depth of field at full magnification reminds me of a microscope DOF. I see all these nice insect images online and beginning to believe they are stacked in photoshop taken at several focal points. That, or I need another lens. I am attempting to get as close as possible to subject, so perhaps I should back up and crop? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

L Lens Packaging and Hoods, Cost-cutting Effort?

Interesting discovery yesterday as I opened a new RF 24-70 L...
First, the internal packaging the lens sat in used to be thick, snug-fitting Styrofoam, and the pouch and literature sat in a cardboard insert above the top Styrofoam.

Now, the lens sits in thin, not-so-snug plastic molds and the pouch and literature sit in the empty space of the top plastic mold.
This is similar to consumer-grade lenses I've purchased before. Not a HUGE deal, but I noticed the lens is a little loose in this setup and wobbles about a bit, and it just looks a bit cheap IMO.

Second, the lens hood is made in China now. All my L hoods are made in Japan. Here, too, not a HUGE deal, but just seems a little bit cheaper. And of course, these cost-cutting efforts don't reduce the price of the lens, but maybe it's keeping the price from going up?

What do you all think?

EOS R7

Has anyone else noticed how Canon seems to have no problem supplying R7s with 18-150 lenses to all their retailers but have been back ordered for many months for bodies only?
Love Canons products but hate their greed! Wish I wasnt so heavily invested in canon equipment, if I had it to do over I would've gone with Sony.

Firmware: Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM v1.1.1

Canon has released new firmware for the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM. It’s a minor update and but likely worthwhile to prevent any issues on future shoots.
Firmware Version 1.1.1 incorporates the following fix:

Fixes an issue, in which, in rare instances, “Err60” is displayed if zoom operations are performed when the camera is started.

The Canon EOS R5 C has been rejected for Netflix Certification

Netflix has rejected the Canon EOS R5C for production certification, and we’re told that Canon doesn’t have any intention to address the issue like Sony did with the FX3.
Neither Netflix or Canon has spoken directly on why the camera was denied, but the only thing we and others can think of is that the camera lacks Canon Log-2. There may be some other image quality reason that we don’t know about. The Canon EOS R5C seems to have every other feature required by Netflix for certification.
The Canon EOS R5 C can still be used for productions, but footage from the camera cannot make up more than 10% of the total runtime of the production.
We’d love to hear more on this topic.

Review: Canon RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM

Bryan at The Digital Picture has completed his review of the brand new Canon RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM, Canon’s ‘value’ wide angle zoom lens for full-frame and APS-C RF mount cameras.
If you’re like me, you may only use an ultra-wide angle lens on occassion, so this is a great option for minimal cost compared to the RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM and RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM.
Is it worth owning? Bryan things so.
The Canon RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens fills the previously open affordable, compact, ultra-wide-angle zoom lens position in the RF lens lineup. Most will find an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens to be one of the most important members of their kit, and the well-featured Canon RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens is a good option for that role.
Is this the highest-performing ultra-wide-angle RF zoom lens available? No. Is this the smallest, lightest, and most affordable ultra-wide-angle RF zoom...
