We have confirmed that a mirrorless camera will be announced next month ahead of CP+ show which begins on March 1, 2018.

While we cannot confirm the “EOS M50” moniker is the camera coming next month, that’s the logical assumption based on past information.

We’re told by a completely unknown source that the next mirrorless camera will shoot 4K video. I was wondering what could possibly differentiate another APS-C mirrorless shooter from the current offerings, and this is certainly one way to do so.

I urge you to take this as a [CR1] rumor until we can confirm some specifications for the upcoming new mirrorless camera.

Maybe it was just trolling, I think the 7DIII 90D where we see it next (and in a mirrorless camera that uses the sensor from one of those)
The alternative model name (Kiss M) points to a more entry level mirrorless camera.

If Canon actually cared about a video centric hybrid camera, it would make sense to make it mirrorless. Make it as light as possible so that it doesn't compete with actual video cameras. Get rid of the mirror because it is pointless.

Even if it is possible, it will have fking "FATTY motion JPEG" and 2x crop lol

I am still interested in whether if the next non-cinema-EOS camera is surely coming soon or not, and whether it has 10bit recording option which canon c200 doesn't....

Let me guess.
Maybe the 10bit would takes more 5 years to be on canon's entry products.
So the next non-cinema EOS will be 8bit 4:2:2 up to UHD 30p, canon log (there will be no canon log 3)
Sighhh.

I'm really curious about this camera... I thought it couldn't get any more entry than the M100?!

It won't. The numbering doesn't work that way.

The M50 could be between the M100 and the M5/6 in the range.

Alternatively it'll be the replacement for the M5 which may make some sense considering the M10 was replaced by the M100.

Either way, it's going to be a more sophisticated camera than the M100.

The only really interesting mirrorless camera from Canon would be a FF mirrorless with the capability to use Canon FD glass and other old/speciality lenses.
Including the chance to build a tilt adapter for the 50mm macro and maybe a shift adapter for a 45mm medium format wide angle from ZEISS. 3D printers are your best friend for these purposes.

7D user patiently waiting for the 7D3 but if this was a replacement for the current M5 (assuming a general bump in specs) I'd be very interested in this camera. Is it not a bit early for an M5 update though?

I waited patiently for years for RCA to come out with a 4K upgrade to my camcorder.

Finally, I gave up and bought an iPhone.

That would be nice. Not that I want one, but it would shut some people up :P

+4,000 :)

As we’ve heard ad naseum from this forum, Canon does not put features in cameras to shut people up. They only put features in cameras based on their infallible market research that sells billions of cameras, so this must be thinking they can make some money on people who want 4K video. I know it’s hard for some here to accept, but yes, they WILL sell more cameras if they include 4K video.

I took a few seconds of video during a warmup at a play I was shooting last week, so I checked it just now, there is no little flag that says 2K or 4K, so I had to dig into the properties sizes, and saw it was 4K. The big tip off is the 3+ GB file size for just a few seconds of video.

That’s MJPEG for you. They need to use a more efficient file format.
