Canon has released a big firmware update for the Canon EOS R5. This firmware update does not add the promised features such as 1080p 120 or C-Log 3.

According to a French forum (on Chasseur d' images' website), Canon is "said" to be about to stop producing and selling:

USB C Charging for 1DX III and/or LP-E19

I am trying to find a USB C battery or direct-through-camera charging solution so I don't need to lug around the bulky charger for longer trips.

IIRC the R5 and R6 can charge their batteries when provided USB C power. Trying this with my 1DX III hasn't worked and at best I've only found a charger that accepts 12v input but is still kinda bulky.

Anyone know of a charger that takes USB C input to charge LP-E19 or can point out what I am doing wrong with my 1DX III?

CANON FUTURE BATTERIES - MOVE AWAY FROM LITHIUM?

Just wondering are Canon or any other companies investing in battery research to move AWAY from Lithium on to possible safer alternatives like Sodium-ion?

In search of advice: RP better than the original 6D ?

Currently I have a 90D and a 6D. My wife uses the 90D. I have my 6D since 2012 and I am very very pleased with it. Allways nice pictures. I love the colors. I am using it for travel or family pictures. No sports, perhaps sometimes tennis or dancing, that's all. Nothing very fast. And 20 Megapixels is enough for me. Everything just fine.
I do a little bit PaintShop Pro and Canon DPP, and than mostly on JPGs. We have very nice photo albums and photo memories!

The only thing lacklustering is perhaps the 6D 11-points-autofocus-system.
Most of the time I am focusing with the center point. And I do focus and recompose (on human eye).
But 30% of the time, my focus is not completely sharp. (And no, it's not my lens, it is me probably.)
Focus is not bad either, and hey, I am no photographer. (But I really try very hard to have good focus and it frustrates me.)

I was planning to buy an EF 16-35 F4 (920 Euros 21% taxes included in Belgium. 1 Euro = 1.19 $).
I can use that lens on both cameras.
There is now a good Canon Cashback (120 Euros) when I combine it with a NEW camera. So than the lens costs only 800 Euros.
And the Eos Rp is available at 1000 Euros (21% taxes included).
That's perhaps a bargain? A cheap RP combined with the good EF 16-35 F4 and than also a nice cashback.

Total price RP+EF-cashback = 1800 Euro tax incl. (= approximately 1770 US $ tax excl to have some comparison)

And now comes my question. Would the RP be (much) better in Autofocus than the 6D? And for a little bit faster action?
- It is mirrorless: it introduces me in the new world
- I can try an RF 35 1.8 STM or the RF 85 2.0 STM
- I can learn some new things
- I can dream of expensive lenses... (And I know the R6 is better, but no way I will pay those prices.)

So in one sentence: Is the RP a good upgrade over the original 6D ? (I am thinking of autofocus. Given the fact that the image quality will be the same probably. I did already see a lot of reviews on YouTube.)

Or should I wait for a new R-entry-level-camera (higher price) and buy the lens (without cashback).

Strange case of blur images. Canon RF 24-70 f2.8

Hello, I’m having the following issue with my Canon R5 and the RF 24-70 f2.8:

Settings:
Focal: 35mm
Focus is on a Building 6 meters away.
V: 1/100
A: anyone you like up to f/10
ISO: 100
Stabilizer: ON
Shutter: Mechanical

With this configuration I’am having blur images all the time, even mounting the camera on a tripod.

If I change the speed to 1/200 the image is perfectly fine.

And the other odd thing is if I change the shutter to ELECTRONIC mode the image is perfectly fine at 1/100.

Can any of you confirm (or deny) this?

This is the possible Canon RF mount camera roadmap [CR2]

I continue to receive little bits and pieces of information in regards to future RF mount cameras. I have attempted to piece together what is coming for the RF mount camera lineup based on the information from multiple known and anonymous sources.
A new entry-level camera to replace the EOS RP
This camera will be cheaper than the current EOS RP camera body.
A second body above the EOS RP replacement
There will be a big price gap between the EOS RP replacement and the EOS R6 at $2499. I have been told a second camera will fit between these two bodies. It won’t be an “EOS R Mark II”.
There will be an APS-C RF mount camera body
I’m pretty sure that this is going to happen sometime in 2021. Hold tight for some smaller lenses for folks that want a nice and compact APS-C system.
A high-resolution EOS R5 type body
One of the worst kept secrets is that Canon will announce a high-megapixel RF mount camera...

Potential privacy issue with Canon cameras and copyright info setting

As just about everyone knows, you can enter your custom copyright info in your Canon ILC and it will appear in the EXIF data. If you use the delete copyright information in the camera menu, apparently the deleted information is still actually in the camera, minus one character.
The problem:
Now, you are also privacy-conscious and delete these before selling a camera to a used equipment dealer. You use the camera’s Delete copyright information menu item, thinking that it will remove everything. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. Besides not touching owner and IPTC fields at all, it only replaces the very first character of the author name and copyright fields with a zero, leaving your previously set copyright information in the camera.
Laszlo at DIRE Studio has found the “bug”. Full disclosure… this issue is being used to sell his ShutterCount app, but you can also correct this...

1Dx III: Dust Magnet Issue Fixed?

One of the most frustrating things about the 1Dx II for me was that it was a terrible dust magnet in my experience (I know others disagreed and I'm not really interested in debating the point, suffice if to say that I was not alone in this).

It was so bad that I pretty much avoided using the 1Dx II for anything that had a lot of sky in the image (birds in flight and scenery for example) and used it almost exclusively for sports where it was never a problem.

So last week, my wife and I went to Indiana to shoot Sandhill Cranes. I took the 1DX III because with sports being pretty much cancelled these days, I'm trying to get as much use and experience with the III as I can. While processing the photos I realized that "Hey, I'm not seeing dust spots in the sky!"

Since Canon never admitted they had a problem with dust, I doubt if they wanted to highlight the improvement with the 1Dx III, but it seems to me, with just limited opportunities to use it, that the dust magnet issues may be much less than they were with the I and the II. Curious if anyone else with the III is noticing this as well.

RF with Older EF Lenses

Been looking around for some information and only getting bits and pieces........

I looked at numerous forums (like FM) and saw a video using an R5 with EF 400 f/2.8 and adapter and it looks very promising. I am contemplating replacing some EF glass in time. Were I to use an EF 300 f/2.8 II with an EF-RF adapter and possibly stack an EF 1.4x or 2.0X in that setup, does anyone have a feel for the autofocus/maximum frame rate/battery life with that kind of setup? I know I'll likely lose some focus points. According to Canon, this lens is very capable of some pretty good FPS on an R5 but nobody is talking about how the battery holds up "pushing" that kind of focusing hardware in a birding type of scenario.

All in all, this is an amazing camera for stills but I am thinking about the future using existing lenses versus replacements (which would be a significant stretch on my budget :rolleyes:).
