Let's see if I have this correct.
The last 4 canon announcements go like this:

1. 1Dc - $10,000 or $15,000 not sure which
2. C500 - $35,000
3. 5D3 - $3,500
4. 1Dx - $6,900

Sure glad to see them aiming their efforts at the 0.01% who can afford this stuff.
They have not announced anything for under $2000 for some time.
I am hoping this means they have a wonderful new 7d or 70d that will be worth switching to.

I think lower price model are coming. Rest assure. The pro line was in need and was due for their replacement so no surprise they cost more. The video segment in particualr seem a bit high, but am sure more affordable cameras will benefit from all these 'expensive' releases...

Agreed, I feel very poor.

And yes, I realize these are aimed at pros, that is my point, 4 consecutive pro cameras and nothing for the 99.X of us poor souls.

I think more consumer targeted stuff should come in the second half of 2012...

I hope so as well as the 1dx

The 1D X will be discontinued even before they decide to ship it :P

Old 300 2.8 a couple years ago - $3800
Old 300 2.8 - $4500
Nikon 300 2.8 - $5700
New 300 2.8 - $7500

Nikon 200-400 VR - $7000
Canon Vapor 200-400 TC IS - $12000 (ok, yeah the Canon has a cool TC built-in, but $5000 is some TC!)

70-300 IS L - $1550 and they can't even toss in a stinkin' tripod ring or 70-200 2.8-type case (it is a great lens though which nobody else has on offer)

GPS Unit - as much $ as an entire iPad

The new 24-70 II is kinda money too (although the MTF for it look so astonishing compared to the old version that this one might actually justify itself).

Yes it will almost a year from announcement to shipping date at the present rate.
Maybe when it ships it will be the 1DXn. ???

Paul Wright

Even worse - judging from what happened with 5DIII - when released it will really be the beta version... ;D

Yip, and I still believe that the 5D3 was rushed to market to soak test for the 1Dx components which is great news for 1Dx owners of course. Imagine if the issues being raised at the moment for the 5D3 were found on the 1Dx so close to the Olympics.
Although I think they are mostly non-issues I still don't understand the DPP software bug, how did (does) Canon do RAW image quality testing? and how do the select pro togs do their analysis? Canon have been very up front acknowledging issues although the light ‘leaking’ issue may simply be out of operating params I think they should be commended for that, but I’d love an explanation how the DPP one got through.

as long as people blindly preorder products... why should companys change their way of releasing stuff?

i don´t preorder anymore and i don´t buy new software or hardware that is not out in the wild for a few month. that served me well for example as intel released the sandy bridge mainboards (sata bug).

i don´t have the time or the nerve to fumble around with beta products an wait until major bugs are fixed.

of course that a product is out for say 4-6 month does not mean it´s perfect or bug free... but at least you have an overview over how well it works and major flaws should be exploited by then.
