Just a quick post I received an email about a new consumer DSLR being tested. A couple of features that were mentioned. Features – Movie focused – Swivel LCD – Between the T2i & 7D – A smaller form factor than the 50D, but not by much. – The announcement is coming in July From the same source A new flash and 1Ds Mark IV will be announced near the end of August/Early September. cr
What I hear I’ve heard people in the know from Canon USA saying they have “no idea what’s going on with them” in regards to the current backorder on the 24-70 f/2.8L. Most people in the know give you ETA’s, not in this case. Just another sign. cr

Here’s the skinny As most of you may know, I am behind Lens Rentals Canada along with the “Bank of Peter”. Things have been going so well, that we’re ordering new stock almost daily. This is a list of lenses that are nearly impossible to get from Canon and have followed the same stock issue path as the EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS before it was replaced. New Stuff! I’ve received a few pieces of info for an announcement in the middle of July. It appears July12/July 13 or July 19/July 20, we haven’t nailed it down exactly yet. More will come soon. There will be a 2nd announcement cycle in August. There will probably be a DSLR announcement (60D/3D) as well as other cameras and accessories. Do not expect a 1Ds Mark IV at this time. cr
More Info I’ve recevied some more info about a possible replacement of the 50D/5D Mark II. The source says a new xD camera is imminent. The DSLR lineup from Canon will be as follows. 1000D / XS 500D / T1i 550D / T2i 7D 5D Mark II 3D (?) 1D Mark IV 1Ds Mark III There could be some truth to this, if the price of the 7D is cut like the 5D Mark II’s has been. cr
From a regular (50 f/1.4) I’m told for certain that a new 50 f/1.4 is coming this summer from Canon. It will retail in the $699 USD range. New Lens The same source says there will be one new lens from Canon this summer/fall that is not a replacement of anything current. He didn’t have specs at the present time. Teleconverters There are new teleconverters being tested at the World Cup I’m told. No word on a release timeframe. cr
Already? I have been receiving email after email about a 5D Mark III being announced this summer. Only a couple of people have cited the big rebates on the camera body. Could Canon move to a 2 year product cycle this time? I say no, until I see something more concrete. cr
