Odd storage on 7D2

Hi
After looking at the images I shot today at an airshow I found the camera had created two folders of images: One called 100EOS7D (with 10GB of images, and the other 101 EOS 7D (with 12 GB). Card is a SanDisk 32GB Ultra Plus.
....ah, I see. Counter on the first bunch went up to OF9A99999, then the second starts at OF9A0001.
(Doesn;t matter, It was a miserable day -- almost everything OOF. I can't shoot handheld with the EF400 f5.6 -- certainly not shots of prop planes with a SS speed of 1/25- sec. Thought putting on the stabilizer of my eF70-200 f4 IS would help. Nope. Must be the AF. Couldn't be my poor technique.....)

EOS R with RF to EF filter- adapter

Hi fellow EOS R users!
Before I order the quite expensive RF to EF filter-adapter, I'd need to know whether it does actually protect the sensor from dust.
I'm only episodically interested in the use of filters, rather looking for a way to "seal" the body during lens changes in dusty environments (EF lenses, of course).
I would most of the time use this adapter with the neutral filter.
Thanks for your answers!

360 Cameras: Who has them? Which ones? What creative things are you doing with them?

Hi all,

I've been toying with the idea of getting a 360 camera. I'd like to use it for stills AND video I think.

At this point, for both stills and video I'm thinking the Insta360 One X may be the way to go. I'm trying to find out if a new model might be coming this fall (Sept-ober or so)....before I buy one now.

But it looks like a fun new way to be creative and see the world.

Do ya'll have any of them? What brands? Which models?

Do you use them mostly for stills or video or both equally?

How are you using them creatively?

Thanks in advance,

cayenne

Would a higher resolution EOS R combined with an RF 50mm f1.2 render the RF 85mm f1.2 redundant/irrelevant?

I finally broke down and bought a good deal on an open box RF 50mm f1.2 lens for my EOS R. Very happy with the lens. I also have an EF 85mm f1.2 II which is a little less than amazing wide open, at least by modern standards. So I'm eyeing up the RF 85mm f1.2. But the talk of a higher resolution EOS R coming soon has got me thinking... Would the RF 50mm f1.2 combined with a higher resolution EOS R model be nearly as good as having the RF 85mm f1.2?

The way I look at it, the RF 50mm has proven to be a very sharp lens. On a higher resolution camera, cropping down to be equivalent to an 85mm focal length seems like it would leave me with just about the same image as if I would have taken it with the 85. Maybe slightly less sharp, but I'm not sure it would be worth the $2600 and changing lenses, as good as the 50mm seems to be.

(Also, for people about to go on about focal length compression, I don't think a cropped 50mm image would be any different than a full frame 85mm image, according to this. https://photographylife.com/what-is-lens-compression . However I'm not sure about the DOF effects of 50mm and crop compared to 85mm uncropped.)

Windows 10 login backgrounds have credits now

Did anyone else notice that recently the Windows 10 login screen photos are now showing credit to the photographers? There was some grumbling that Microsoft was paying for stock images unbeknownst to the photographers but also that the images were completely uncredited. Now it shows the photographer's name and the agency from which the image was licensed. So that's cool now they can get recognized personally.

Here is the Canon Cinema EOS C500 Mark II

The Canon Cinema EOS C500 Mark II will be announced on or around September 5, 2019, ahead of IBC in Amsterdam.
Below are the specifications that we’ve been told but have been unable to confirm. The image, however, is exactly what the Cinema EOS C500 Mark II will come as.

Would a tilt-shift EF to RF lens adapter be possible?

It's an old link, but I recently came upon this article about a Canon patent of a tilt-shift adapter. Now that the RF mount is a thing, it makes me wonder what, if anything, would hold them back from releasing such an adapter for RF now?

Adding shift capabilities to any EF lens is very appealing, especially with a good wide-angle zoom, especially if AF works too.

Canon releases an interim financial report

Canon has decided to release an interim financial report for the time period of January 1, 2019 – June 30, 2019 for the following reason.
We are pleased to provide this overview of the first half (from January 1, 2019 to June 30, 2019) of our 119th Business Term.
The world economy in the first half of this term saw a slowdown in growth as a whole due to a deceleration in European economy and the effect of the lingering U.S.-China trade friction.
Under such conditions, corporate demand for office multifunction devices and laser printers stagnated, while the markets for digital cameras and inkjet printers continued to shrink. As a result, both Office Business Unit and Imaging System Business Unit experienced a decrease in sales. Sales of the Medical System Business Unit, which delivered strong sales results for computed tomography (CT) systems and other products in the Americas, increased. On the other hand, sales of the Industry and Others Business Unit, which includes semiconductor...

We’ve received the pricing for the new RF lenses

Next week, we’re obviously going to see both the Canon EOS 90D and Canon EOS M6 Mark II announcements. Along with the two new camera bodies, we should also see 2 more RF lenses officially announced this week. The RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM, RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM coming first and the RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM coming at a later date.
We have received pricing for the 3 mentioned lenses, but the pricing came to use in Thai Baht, so we’ve done a bit of converting to get what we think the USD pricing will be.

Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM 82,600 THB – $2499 USD $2299
Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM 82,600 THB – $2499 USD $2299
Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM 93,500 THB – $2799 USD

The RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM are scheduled to begin shipping in October, while the RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM...

RF Mount 7D2 replacement? Could it happen?

It is a safe bet that the 7D3 is not going to come out and replace the 7D2, but what happens next?

The camera industry is moving towards Mirrorless.... Canon and Nikon are the last holdouts, and Canon is on the way. At the lower end, we have the M series, and at the higher end, the R series. We are told that there are higher end R cameras on the way, including a high megapixel monster.

However, the bulk of Canon sales are the Rebels. People seem to prefer that combination of size and price, and there is no way that Canon are going to let that market get away from them. At some point soon, I expect to see some low cost kit lenses appear in the R mount, and eventually an R mount Rebel. Likewise, I think that the 90D will be the end of its line.

Looking at other makers of high end crop cameras, we have Olympus and Panasonic who have both come out with very high end crop cameras. Both are loaded with features and have so much computing power packed into them, that they had to make bodies that are reminiscent of a 1DX series camera. I expect that Canon will join the fray, and we will end up with an R mount body, slightly bigger than the R, with improved battery capacity, an IBIS crop sensor (35 megapixel range), quad Digic 9?, and similar functions to the Oly and Panasonic top end cameras.

I don’t expect to see it for a couple years, but 60FPS burst modes, superhigh in camera stitching mode, single shot HDR,, object recognition and tracking, and 6K video (8K?) are all possibilities.

Anyway, this is just speculation, I have no secret inside knowledge (or imaginary helicopter) and am just guessing/wishing for the future. However you look at it, these are interesting times for camera gear.
