R5 Sensor Cleaning

I've been shooting digital Canons (EOS-1Ds Mk I II III, EOS M, R, R5) from 2002-now and for the first time I have a dirty sensor.

Following the manual instructions on page 782 isn't making a dent in it.

All the dirt is in one corner so I fear I must have touched it :-(

So page 783 says in this case take it to a Canon Service Sensor.

Questions:

1) do you believe them? Is anyone cleaning the sensor manually?

2) how much is this going to cost me?

Here's the unphotoshopped version, and a version with contrast cranked way up.

Speedlite RT Trigger not working

I have used the Canon ST-E3-RT (version 1) trigger with the 430 EX III-RT and 600EX-RT (version 1) flashes for off camera flash for several years. Previously they worked flawlessly but now the signal gets dropped within a minute of switching everything on. The units are all on the same channel and have the same ID with fresh batteries. The only way to re-establish connection is to turn everything off and then on again. Unfortunately, the signal will again drop after another minute or so. This happens when I use the 430 EX III-RT to trigger another 430 EX III-RT or if I use the 600 EX RT to trigger the 430 EX III RT units or if I use the ST-E3-RT to trigger the flashes (one at a time or all three flashes together)

The flashes are within 5 feet of each other with no intervening barriers such as a wall.

This has happened to me indoors and outdoors, at several different locations.

I used a friend's Godox trigger/receivers at some of the same locations and they worked flawlessly.

Several others have mentioned this in various forums and suggested that there could be interference from wifi systems or even LED lights. To test this, I turned off my wifi and then all electricity to my house. Unfortunately, the problem persisted.

I contacted Canon and their response was to say that they are "aware of the problem but have no solution".

Has anyone else encountered this and, if so, what solution do you suggest? Spend more money on another trigger system (seems counterintuitive since this system was created for off camera flash), sell Canon flash and buy "knock off" versions?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Canon Announces PowerShot V10. Woohoo.

So Nikon announces the Z8, a baby flagship at about 2/3rds the price of the Z9 and nearly the exact same specs. That's groundbreaking and game-changing: (nearly) all the capabilities of their flagship camera in a less-expensive body. Incredible!

Meanwhile, 'my' Canon corporation can only come up with a silly little entry-level thingy called a PowerShot V10. Woohoo. That'll show Nikon for sure. They're shivering in their boots now, baby.

I'm thinkin' mebbe I should move over to the Dark Side.

RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

Post your images takes with Canon's RF 70-200/2.8L. A welcome (for me) redesign of the excellent EF 70-200/2.8 lenses offering improved IQ in a smaller and lighter package. A 70-200/2.8 is an excellent lens for portraits and events, and for a wider view of night sports.

Here are a couple of my shots with the lens:

"Kickoff"
Kickoff.jpg
EOS R3, RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM @ 200mm, 1/1600 s, f/2.8, ISO 10000

"Strings"
Strings.jpg
EOS R3, RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM @ 200mm, 1/250 s, f/2.8, ISO 5000

With this lens, I often find myself at the long end shooting wide open with a high ISO and still cropping. Looking forward to receiving my 100-300/2.8 for the extra reach with the same f/2.8 aperture.

RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM

Post your images from Canon's RF 14-35/4. Expensive compared to the EF 16-35/4L IS, but delivers an extra 2mm on the wide end (a little more according to my testing) and remains relatively small and light, and retains the 77mm filter size common to other RF zooms like the 24-105/4, both 70-200's, and the 100-500. This lens is a core part of my travel kit

Starting off with a few of mine.

Nikon officially announced the Z 8, which is aimed squarely at the Canon EOS R5

It looks like Nikon has released a “baby” version of their fantastic Nikon Z 9 flagship camera body. For the most part, the Z 8 matches the features of the Z 9, and does so in a much smaller body and at a much lower price. Along with the camera body, Nikon has also announced

R8 or R6 mark I

Hi all!
I want to upgrade from my 6d mk 2 to a mirrorless body but I´m not sure whether I want the R6 or the R8. I live in europe, where they are priced pretty similarly (R8 is 1800€, R6 is 2000€). I like the features the R6 brings to the table like IBIS, dual card slots and better wheather sealing. I´ve also been to a camera shop and held both of them in my hands and the R6 felt significantly better in my hands (but maybe the grip extension would make the R8 better?) and I really like the bigger and higher res EVF.
However the R8 is cheaper, and still has the better sensor and improved AF. Honestly i´m probabbly going to be really happy with the AF performance of the R6, but still it kind of feels weird paying more money and getting worse performance. Do you think the R6 is still a better camera than the R8? I know that the R6 mark 2 would solve all my problems but it is much more expensive here at 2800€, and I´d much rather invest any additional money in to glass.

Time for a new camera - Am I sticking with Canon after 20 years? What's in the running and what isn't [Sony ;-) ]

I'm seriously thinking of replacing my 5Ds - but what with? I get asked a lot about switching, but how does it fit for me with the lenses I use [tilt/shift] The GFX100S, Z8 and R5 are all in the running. The Sony E mount rules out any of their offerings

Hope it's of some interest ;-)
