What Power bank do you use if you want to do long shoots so you do not need to swap batteries outside the studio

Hi, I have been away for a long time and eventually got myself a R5 in 2020 - just before the pandemic struck India. Now that winter is setting and hopefully the skies will be clear, I will join a group interested in astrophotography. As you know, these sites have no power, so the option is either to carry many batteries or connect to a power bank. I searched the net and YouTube and saw many videos and articles and finally decided that Anker has good power banks. There were four that I considered:
  1. Anker 737 Power Bank (PowerCore 24K), 24,000mAh
  2. Anker PowerCore III 19,200mAh, 45W Power Delivery
  3. Anker Power Bank, PowerCore III Elite 25600 PD 60W with 65W PD Charger
  4. Anker PowerCore III Elite 25600mAh, 87W Portable Charger with 65W USB C Charger
  5. Anker Powerhouse 27000mAh Lithium ion 100, 97.2Wh
#1, #2 and #5 do not come with chargers. I opted for #1 and ordered it and purchased the UGreen 100W PD charger which I am using and am happy with. I also purchased a USB digital tester to see the voltage, current and wattage being used by the R5 and the other devices I charge.

Unfortunately, the Anker 737 has not yet arrived, and I have no visibility on when it will arrive. The dealer has promised that it will get it by the weekend, but I don't think it is arriving any time soon. If it does not arrive by next Thursday, I will cancel the order. So, I wanted input from you folks as to what you use so I can then look for alternatives. If you have not seen the Anker 737, do take a look.

Hoping to hear from you folks.

Thanks in advance.

Canon RF 24/1.8 versus Sigma 28/1.4

I'm in the market for a wideangle prime, and I'm really torn between Canon RF 24/1.8 and Sigma 28/1.4
Intended uses: astrophotography (tracked), after-dark walk-around shooting in cities and towns (travel), and daylight landscape photography.
Wideangle lenses owned already: RF 24-240, RF 16/2.8, EF 50/1.8

Plusses for the Canon:
- Has IS.
- Small, lightweight, which is a BIG plus for travel and hiking
- Native RF mount, no putzing with adapters (although this is not a big deal)
- Close focus ability (doubt I will use this much

Downsides of Canon
- Relatively expensive
- Consumer-grade build
- While the center is sharp, the corners aren't the sharpest and will likely need stopping down.
- Need to stop down to f/2.8 at least for astro.

Plusses for Sigma
- Built like a tank
- 2/3 stops faster
- Very sharp, even wide open. Corner-to-corner sharpness
- Occasionally goes on sale for 450-500 USD which is a screamin' a deal

Downsides of Sigma
- Heavy. I could be hiking or traveling, and if the lens stays home because of weight then what's the point.

Thoughts?

R5 Issues

I had to send my R5 in for assistance for some pixels burnt on the sensor and they told me that in addition to those, there are errors in the internal memory (??)

anything similar happened to anyone?

the R5 apart from the burnt pixels, seemed to work fine ...

Thanks

IS suddenly not working any more

Although I treat my lenses were well, the IS of my EF 35mm f/2 IS suddenly stopped working. That is very annoying, because it is the main feature of that lens. f/2 combined with IS made it a night vision lens. I wonder what is wrong with the IS. Might only the switch be broken? Without the IS I basically lose four stops now and need 16 times the ISO to compensate. That makes the lens pretty unusable for low light unless I use it on a camera with IBIS in future.

89ae7bec2b6940109692b2a30cb1c869.png

This problem damages my trust in Canon products further. Two years ago the main board of my camera broke and I had to replace it for more than 600 Euros. I found out that many people had the same problem with that camera and it might happen again with the new main board in a few years. If something like that happens, I wonder if I should invest a lot of money into an expensive Canon camera again.

I wonder how much it would cost to repair the IS. Probably more than half of the lens price and after some time it may break again, as I do not think that the replacement will have a higher quality than the original.

As cameras get more and more complex, Canon might earn a lot of money from repairs in future. We still do not know how long IBIS will last, as the first Canon cameras with IBIS came out two years ago. And what about the electronic viewfinders? How long until they break or at least have hot pixels? The camera of my grandpa still works. How long will our cameras work?

New Sony A7RV will come on October 26th - New AF but no new Sensor

On some rumor sites some fake posting appeared. One rumor site that often got right information, posted thath the 7RV will be announced on October 26th.
Rumored, an AI-AF system will come - an gamechanging feature.
Sensor will be the same as on 7RIV. (from Sony Alpha Rumors)

For me, as I use the 7RIV with the 200-600mm lens (carryabel and much lighter than my R5,R3 with 600mm RF and EF MK II, this is partially good news.
Partially, because an new, "gamechanging" AF system is welcome. My personal problem: The 7RIV I own, is noisy. Over 800 noisy, abvove 1600 Supernoisy. So, why buy an new camera that will deliver noisy shots?

In my first intention, I will save my money and wait for the upcoming R1 (as some rumored pricings are superhigh).

Autumn/Fall 2022

Autumn is always a time of the year I like go out and take pictures - at least as long as rain is not too heavy ;)
Please add your Autumn/Fall impressions, too.

This year, 2022, I'll start with a totally crazy photo:
An apple blossom, in October, just photographed in my garden.
2022 is a year that has completely messed up nature here in Germany:
Too dry, too warm, too wet in September... too crazy.

Lens recommendations with R6

I'm about to purchase a R6 (upgrade from a 5D Mark III) and looking at lens choices. I had a lot of my EF lenses stolen so I'm expecting to start new and not get an adapter.

I largely shoot travel/landscape photography but am going to start trying to do some (kids) sports and general photography. All non commercial.

I'm going on a safari (holiday of a lifetime type situation) in a few weeks so am upgrading partly for that.

The lens I am most keen on are:

RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM
RF 14-35mm F4 L is USM

Which covers landscape and wildlife for safari; at which point I'm reaching my budget for expensive lenses.

I'm more struggling on what else to get in the middle.

The kit lens seems to be very good value so one thought is to get that, it does not seem worth paying the additional for the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM which might be a natural 3 zoom lens kit.

Part of me is wondering if instead of the kit lens I get the Canon RF 24–240mm F4-6.3 is USM its clearly not as good as the 100-500 and there is some duplication; but might be an "ok at a lot" lens for general walk around or kids stuff when I don't want to be taking the 100-500 with me - so becomes the lens that means I take the camera with me more.

And then that leaves a gap for perhaps an expensive prime 50mm when budget allows.

Any other suggestions?

The read/write speed has been greatly improved in stable write performance. The sustained write speed of the new PERGEAR 1T/2T card reaches 1300mb/s, which is 3.5 times compared to the elder PERGEAR generation 400mb/s.
The price of the new 1T/2T CFE-B card is lower than most CFE-B cards on the market.
The read/write data is not falsely advertised. We tested the card internally for

A new rumor suggest that the Canon EOS R will be replaced by a Canon EOS R8 [CR1]

The Canon EOS R camera body has been discontinued for quite some time, and we have reported for a long time that it would not get a direct replacement, but that there would be a full-frame camera below the Canon EOS R6.
An unconfirmed rumor about such a replacement has appeared on Weibo.
Canon EOS R8 Specifications (Rumored)

30.3mp Full-Frame Sensor
DIGIC X
5-axis in-body stabilization
12fps Mechanical
4K 30p (No Crop)
4K 60p (Cropped)
CFexpress/SD dual card slot

We haven’t heard about such a camera or seen such a spec list, so please treat this information accordingly.
We believe that only one more camera is coming from Canon in 2022, and that will be an APS-C camera.

Anyone else interested in RF-S 15-85 ?

I had bought the 7D with the excellent EF-S 15-85 a close equivalent to the 24-105. I loved the range for travel and it’s sharpness. 15 mm is very different to the 18 mm offered in standard kit lenses to the point I will not move to RF-S if it doesn’t come out or at least a 15-65 mm which would be the true 24-105. Having to buy the RF 6 and 24-105 is a totally different budget as well as all other replacements to my other 4 EFS lenses. I want to move for lighter equipment without necessarily having to go to FUJI for that although their 16-80 would suit me too. EFS 15-85 was great for all its users but Canon never promoted truly after its launch on 7D, I hope it’s not disregarded for RF-S.

A rare Canon FD 24mm f/1.4 S.S.C. Aspherical hits the next Wetzlar Camera Auction with a starting bid of €6,000

A rare and highly collectable Canon lens is coming up for auction at the always interesting Wetzler Camera Auctions on October 8, 2022
The lens in question? A Canon FD 24mm f/1.4 S.S.C. Aspherical. This lens was released in 1975 and is pretty rare, no one here has ever seen one.
This was the world’s largest aperture 24mm wide angle lens at the time. A ground and polished glass aspherical lens surface, applied at the rear surface of the eighth lens element correct spherical aberration and astigmatism to achieve high picture quality even at a full aperture of f/1.4. The floating mechanism achieves high definition from the shortest focusing distance to infinity.
The starting bid for the Canon FD 24mm f/1.4 S.S.C. Aspherical is €6,000, and it’s expected to fetch between €12,000-€15,000 when it’s all said and done.
There are currently two of these lenses on ebay...
