Reuters? A real life friend actually told me that he heard that Reuters has signed new NDAs with Canon. The only thing Reuters would care about is pro camera bodies and to a lesser extent, lenses. Apparently the NDA’s are for June through August. Whether what he heard is true or not remains to be seen. Going by history, this would put a new camera in the September ’09 timeframe. cr

SigZilla Field Test This is a field test from the Juza Nature Photography web site. It’s definitely funny and cool at the same time. Juza Conclusion “Overall, the image quality is of Sigma 200-500 f/2.8 is good for such an extreme lens, even though it is far from easy to get the best from this lens: at f/2.8 the depth of field is very shallow, and the focus must be perfect…even an error of few centimeters may make the difference between a sharp photo and an out of focus photos.” Read More: http://www.juzaphoto.com/… cr

TOKYO: Japan’s Canon Inc. said Thursday that it was delaying the construction of a new manufacturing plant for a second time because of the global economic downturn. Canon, which produces cameras and office equipment, had originally planned to start building the factory in late 2008 in southern Oita Prefecture. It first delayed the start in November because of the worsening recession, and gave no new target date for the start of construction. “The significant decline in demand has continued for longer than expected with no clear indication of when a recovery might be expected,” a company statement said. No word on whether or not some manual controls have been added. I’ve been asked not to mention the industry or the project, so I won’t. cr

If the specs are tr.ue If the specs for the D5000 are true, Canon appears to be getting their proverbial butt kicked from a perception standpoint. Bali-angle LCD, 2.7 inch? D movie image editing and enhanced scene mode Silent Mode AF 11-point target tracking AF ISO3200high sensitivity support I’m not a spec person, but for an entry level camera.. specs can lead to sales. Consumers love specs! From Nikon Rumors cr

Rebel T1 We will see a Rebel XS replacement announced in June. I was told the current XS will remain current while the XSi will be discontinued over the summer. We’ll still have 3 Rebels for Christmas. The XS could reach the $400 price point. I still think that’s a little unrealistic. The T1 will not have a movie mode. It’ll basically be a rebadged XSi. Lenses? Not likely before the fall. cr
