What say you? I was flipping though emails trying to find some worthy news, nothing came up. So I decided to give my top 10 Canon DSLR’s. 1) Rebel/300D It was the first sub $1000 SLR, it could be easily hacked to unlock a pile of 10D features and it had great image quality. This camera really opened the doors for digital SLR’s 2) 20D Tough call vs the 5D, but the 20D was the first “prosumer” camera to really break open the whole segment. Plenty of 20D owners went to the next camera on our list. 3) 5D The…

Canon Canada The 40D has been removed from a couple of Canon price lists, but not all. Canon Canada is offered refurb 40D’s to dealers, this is usually a good sign a camera is done. They carry a 90 day warranty in Canada, so be careful if you buy one. You should see refurb bodies appearing for $749 – $799 CAD or so. It’s still not officially discontinued by Canon. cr

Zzzz I’ve added the Rebel T1i to the Price Watch page. Some sites don’t yet have body only pricing up, I’ll add them when the pricing pages become available. A lens price watch is coming, I’m just figuring out how to organize it so it loads quickly. It should be up for next week cr

Coming up on one year The 2000D will be a year old come June, will Canon be releasing a new one? Northlight points out the Aussie PMA being in June, so perhaps a May announcement? 2000D? I havent heard anything about it. I think Canon may just keep the 1000D around through to Christmas. A $399-$499 dslr perhaps? Nikon has discontinued the D40, so there’s a hole in the really cheap SLR segment from the big 2. I’ll assume that the D60 will be the new cheapy when Nikon makes their announcements on the 14th of April. I haven’t seen…

Har Har Canon have just announced the first of a line of ground breaking new optics that actually intensify the light as it passes through the lens. This results in smaller lighter lenses which can have longer zoom ranges but still retain a f2.8 maximum aperture. This technology has been in development for many years, but achieving a blend of high optical quality with a good amount of light gain and a realistic manufacturing cost has only just become possible with a revolutionary new manufacturing process Canon are not able to release details of exactly how they make the lenses…

Some more info and corrections (From the source) 120hz means 120 full frames. The camera will only be specced for 60fps. The chip may be used in the future for a higher end camera. The CMOS sensor is an entirely new design based on the previous work on APS-C it refreshes much faster and can be deemed a much improved sensor for video applications. Hence it will have very low rolling shutter effect. As far as dSLR’s. People in charge think that 30fps on 720p and 1080p is very good and will not improve it on this generation. PAL 25p…

Engadget Awards Oh joy. Even after all the hate this camera has received it has won the coveted Engadget Digital Camera of the year award! Woooooooo! True, there was some Nikon fanboy vote splitting with the D90 and D700, but who cares… we win! Seriously…. I nominated the Panasonic G1 as camera of the year and I stand by that. It’s nice to see some real innovation. Speaking of which; Olympus? Where’s my micro 4/3 camera? I want that orange thing with the 20 f/1.7. It’d be like a new age digital Canonet QL17 GIII! Read about all the gadget…

From an email Canon is working on a pro video camera that has a 1x APS-C CMOS sensor able to capture up to 120hz or full frames a sec. Fab specs show 12.1MP. One will be a wide starting at 16mm and the other will be a tele zoom starting at 70mm. While I can’t…

UPDATE I was unable to properly profile Epson Lustre or Premium Matte Papers Personal Project – Ultra Premium Presentation Paper Matte – Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster If anyone wants to try out my ICC profiles for these papers, drop me an email and I’ll send them off when I’m finished on Sunday. I’m also redoing the profile for the Canon Fine Art Matte paper. Canon’s profile is horrible for me. I’ll do the profile to eliminate the 35mm margin Canon requires for the fine art papers. If anyone wants this profile as well, just let me know. I’d be…

Finally Done Now that the camera is hitting North American shores, a review of the SX1 IS has come out from DPReview. This is a landmark camera as it uses Canon’s own CMOS sensor for a PowerShot for the first time. From DPR “In the last few months there have been a number of new superzoom cameras announced; all feature fast capture times, more and more new features, and wider and wider zoom ranges. It is too early to say how the SX1 IS stands up against these new cameras, and it will be interesting to see how this market…
