Press Release (Google Translated) New lens from Viltrox with Canon RF mount!
The lens features high-quality workmanship, and the all-metal construction ensures safety and durability. A large aperture and a 9-blade aperture allow you to achieve beautiful background blur (so-called bokeh), which is highly valued and sought after in portrait photography.
Advanced optical design
The optical construction consists of 10 elements arranged in 7 groups. The construction uses one ED element with a very low level of dispersion and 4 SR (Short-Wavelength Refractive) lenses responsible for the refraction of short wavelength beams. They are to serve even better reduction of chromatic aberration. The minimum focus distance is 80cm.
Object tracking and eye detection (EYE AF) support
The Viltrox AF 85 mm f1.8 lens uses a quiet and fast STM SilentMotor. The AF speed will work well in photography, and the silent drive in video, especially when filming or photographing in discreet / demanding places /...
I don’t have a lot of reliable sources for SIGMA and Tamron, which isn’t for a lack of trying. One of the most asked questions I get is “when will SIGMA and/or Tamron launch RF lenses?” With my answer usually being that I have no idea.
That may have changed this week, as a good source for other areas of the industry told me that at least SIGMA would be addressing the RF mount in 2022. While the source wasn’t privy to the actual roadmap, they did think that we’d see 3-5 lenses announced for the RF mount in 2022. The biggest roadblock for SIGMA is apparently manufacturing capabilities beyond just the issues from the pandemic. This does make some sense, as SIGMA has said in the past that keeping up with demand is an ongoing challenge.
As for Tamron, I haven’t heard a peep about their plans.
More to come…
The-Digital-Picture has posted the first bit of image quality testing for the brand new Canon EOS R3. The first test deals with noise from the EOS R3, and you can compare it to pretty much every other camera out there.
You can check out the methodology of the image quality testing here.
I’m not a pixel peeper type, but I’m quite impressed by the first results. It definitely has a more pleasing noise pattern than the Canon EOS R5 or Canon EOS R6...
Photo printers have become a bit of a niche market, with all of the great online solutions out there. However, if you’re like me, you love doing it at home and playing with various papers and that sort of thing.
Canon was scheduled to release a replacement for the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 in late 2020, but it has obviously been delayed due to the pandemic. I have been told that there is a specific part inside a photo printer that is nearly impossible to source at this time, and there’s no timeline on when that issue will be resolved.
The imagePROGRAF Pro-1000 has been around for 6 years, so it’s definitely ready for a refresh. If you can hold out for another 6 months or so, I would wait on buying one.
The replacement for the imagePROGRAF will add two new cartridges, along with a new chroma optimizer tank. The printer will also have the ability to use rolls of paper, which has been a much asked for feature.
I have also been told that there...
I have been told that we can expect a firmware update for the Canon EOS R5 sometime around the ship date for the Canon EOS R3. The EOS R3 is scheduled to begin shipping on November 26, 2021.
The firmware update will likely include added support for the RF 5.2mm f/2.8L Dual Lens Fisheye that is scheduled to begin shipping in December of this year.
The usual bug fixes are also likely. Other than that, I have no information about any additional features that may be added to firmware v1.5.0 for the EOS R5.
It’s always fun to look at the pricing of camera gear in various countries. Well, maybe it’s not so much fun when you live in the countries where gear costs the most.
Nukeni has done up a price comparison of the Canon EOS R3 in 26 different countries, and there is quite a difference between the top and bottom.
From Nukemi
We investigated prices across 166 countries, and published the prices from the 26 countries from which we retrieved prices. When taxes were not included in prices on the websites, we calculated the totals with tax, using the information on taxes in each country available on Avalara. The countries we added taxes to are the US and Canada. The US and Canada have different tax rates depending on where you make purchases, so we show two prices, one for the product purchased in the location with the lowest tax rate, and one...
