Is the 1DX Mark II the last Canon DSLR camera made with interchangeable focusing screens?

From what I can tell, the 5d3, 5d4, and the 1DX Mark III all have fixed focusing screens (from looking at the manual)

So if you want an officially-supported split-prism focusing screen for manual focusing through the OVF, the 1DX Mark II is the only available choice from Canon?

Does anyone have an EC-B screen? Does it work well?

Canon announcements coming in late September [CR1]

Canon will be announcing new gear in late September if the latest report at The Camera Insider is accurate. Late August through late September is usually a pretty active time for camera related announcements from most manufacturers. We know both Nikon and Sony have big announcements coming soon. I suspect Fuji will also be rolling

EF 70-200 loses Focus on my EOS R6 Mark II

I am using my EF 70-200 II lens attached via adapter to my EOS R6 and EOS R6 Mark II. This is my Goto work horse of a Lens and when using on my R6's. But sometimes the lens loses focus between shots. I am a sports shooter. and when I say loses focus its in-between subjects. I may photograph a horse rider and take several shots. No issue. But then Pause waiting for next rider. then when I attempt to shoot, the lens struggles to acquire focus. But after manual focus, the lens will then acquire focus. (I lose some initial shots) I have NOT had any maintenance done on the lens. At the moment, can't afford a RF 70-200. think I need to send in for general maint? thoughts? I have rechecked all switches on lens.

Opinion: The difficulty facing Canon (and everyone else)

Reading through the interviews from the Photo and Imaging 2023 show felt like I was back in the early days of the EF mount. But it's not the late 80s and early 90s when FD mount users were picking their jaws up off the floor. Back then film was still king, Velvia was amazing, Tmax was made by actual wizards, and new and exciting technologies such as USM and IS were coming out. All the major players were still in the game. It was a great time for the camera companies, carrying through all the way past the first decade of the new millennia. They could literally do what they wanted when they wanted. Money was to be made.

R5 Screen Issue?

Update: 8/31: Returned the camera for service and the LED panel was found to be faulty and replaced.
I just purchased the EOS R5 camera and am loving the pictures it takes. However, I seem to be having an issue when I am going through the menus and it changes menu views on its own. This only happens when using the reear screen. Have only had the camera a couple of weeks. Anyone else experience similar? Such a bummer..thanks

Why did you switch to RF?

For those who came from another system, and decided to switch to a Canon RF body, or those who were purchasing a brand new digital camera without having anything in a previous system - What were you coming from, and why did you do it? What convinced you it made sense for you? What else were you considering and why?

Curious what drew y'all in and whether that has changed, for the better or for the worse.

Does Canon have plans to release a ‘retro’ styled EOS R camera in the future?

During the Photo & Imaging show in Shanghai earlier this month, Canon representatives did their normal interviews with various publications. As per usual, they were tight lipped about future products. However, sometimes you can read between the lines, especially when they cannot confirm or deny a product is coming in the future, or at least

Portable charger for LP-E6 batteries

I'm looking for a portable battery solution for charging LP-E6 batteries in the field when I'm not near an AC outlet and don't have a spare battery (or if I have a spare and it's empty, too). You may be familiar with power banks that can charge smartphones. I ask because I just purchased an Anker 511 PowerHouse battery for charging laptops and other devices that has an AC outlet. Could that be used with the Canon LC-E6 charger? Or do you have another solution? Here's a link to what I bought (Yex, I know it's easier to carry three Canon batteries ....)

Canon executives address third-party RF future

We think it's safe to say one of the most frustrating things with Canon's EOS R system is the lack of autofocus third-party lenses from the likes of Sigma and Tamron, along with the glaring wide-angle L lens holes in the line-up. As we all know, the third-party manufacturers make great value lenses and fill the

Canon EOS R7 in the bitter cold

I am heading to Mongolia in January to photograph the palas cat and whatever else comes our way. The average daily temperature will range between -10c to -25c.

I was wondering if anyone has shot with an EOS R7 body for an extended period time in the bitter cold and snow? From my understanding, the body isn't as well sealed as its EOS 7D series relative. If you have, did you have any issues worth noting? Any error codes, freezes or crazy battery drain? I can't find a review or two of the R7 used in those sorts of conditions.

I'm looking at the R7 w/100-500 as a second body to the SL2 (I'm trading in the SL2-S for more pixels) w/90-280 combo. I like the APS-C 2nd body and love the 100-500.

Three new stacked sensor cameras coming from Canon [CR2]

The Canon EOS R3 was the first camera produced by Canon to come with a Canon manufactured stacked image sensor. Speedlite size comparison: 430EX III - RT and EL-5

Hi!
Would anyone who owns the 430EX III - RT and EL-5 be willing to post a few photos of how they compare size-wise, please?
I am trying to determine whether to get the EL-5 now or keep waiting for the 430EX III replacement, which seems to be taking forever to materialize.
I use flash only rarely, but would like to have one for some macro work on the R3 and R6 II during an upcoming trip.
Thanks!

RF 100-300mm f/2.8L IS USM

Post your images from Canon's fifth 'great white' RF lens and first big white RF zoom, which is also the first big white lens to be designed for RF from the ground up (the first four were adapter±2xTC 'bolt-ons' of the EF 400/2.8 III and 6004/ III, at least from an optical standpoint).

This lens seems ideally-suited for indoor events and sports – that has been the majority of my use so far, and the lens does not disappoint. However, some have asked about performance with the 2x TC, as a possible substitute for a 600mm prime. The 600/4 + 1.4x was and remains my go-to for birding, but on an outing this past Saturday I took along the 100-300 + 2x planning to shoot at least one quick 'real world' comparison. This slow-moving great egret helpfully remained in the same location as I switched from 600/4 to 100-300 to 100-500. The first two are from a monopod, though I can handhold the 600/4 I often shoot on a monopod in warm weather. The 100-300/2.8 is definitely lighter than the 600/4, but neither is a light lens. That felt especially true the afternoon I took these, since I had spent that morning scuba diving.
