Got some "stuff" in my R5 viewfinder. Dust? Fungus?

Just noticed that I have something inside my R5 viewfinder. Any opinions on what this is? (Ignore the countless micro scratches on the outside and dust around the edges, yeesh!) I guess I'm mainly looking for the reassurance to not freak out about it. Even if it is fungus, from what I have read about fungus in camera equipment, it can't really "spread" between cameras and lenses, but rather it's pretty much present everywhere at all times, and it's just waiting for a good environment (moist) to be able to actually take hold and grow? Thanks.

Canon teasing higher MP camera for Vision Pro?

https://petapixel.com/2024/03/01/ca...mera-is-high-res-enough-for-apple-vision-pro/

A Canon exec was quoted as saying “In order to reproduce video for Vision Pro, you need to have at least 100 megapixels,”
The Vision Pro has a combined resolution of about 23MPix. I guess this must be for matching the resolution of the Vision Pro for a 180* video.
He later says “So at the moment, we can’t cater to that level of a requirement. But what I presume what companies who will be providing images for the Vision Pro will be required to have 100-megapixels with 60 frames per second,”
Could this be a hint at specs of an upcoming r5s?

Filters on tele-zooms

When I checked my EF 100-400L II pictures shot yesterday, I had the ugly surprise that they were not as sharp as usual.
I first didn't understand why.
So, I re-calibrated the AFMA, but there was no change, T & W remained unchanged. Since most pictures were shot stabilized, also at short shutter times, I kept wondering.
Until I remembered that the only real change was having added a filter to the lens (B+W Clear filter MRC nano T-Pro).
After removal, sharpness was restored!
Has somebody else experienced the same with a similar highest quality filter?

Canon Patent Application: Automated Tilt Movements

This patent application (2024-025274) discusses how to automate the tilt movement given the objects that the user wants in focus, but more importantly when you want to tilt the plane of focus to something other than horizontal or vertical. I believe this is more commonly called swing. Canon is proposing setting the two focus points

Canon is in deep talks with third-party lens manufacturers

Ah, the plot thickens, not even a day after Sigma’s CEO said a nothing burger, Canon’s Imaging Chief Executive, Mr. Tokura had other thoughts on the matter. At first, when I was writing this I was pretty excited and then after putting my own words around it to give it all to fine readers, I

Canon, give us shutter close at lens removal!

On the R5, and I assume others, I love that Canon gives the option to close the shutter when the camera is off, therefore protecting it from dust. But lately, especially if I'm out with the camera and only have one lens, I've been setting it to just hold the shutter open when the camera is off. This saves cycles on the shutter as I turn the camera on and off to save the battery.

But inevitably, I forget to turn this back on when I get home and swap lenses, leading to a minor panic when I see the unprotected sensor.

Now, maybe the days of this feature even being relevant as things go to electronic only shutter are numbered. But why can't they just have a mode, make it one of the selections in the menu, where the camera leaves the shutter open at camera off, but as soon as it senses the lens getting detached from the body, then it closes the shutter? No more needless shutter cycles at on/off, and the sensor is still protected from dust when the lens is off.

Even with the camera off, when you detach a lens, you can hear the camera doing something, I think it runs the sensor through a self cleaning. So clearly even with the camera off it is still somewhat functional, probably enough that it could close the shutter. To me this would make more sense than closing the shutter every time the camera is off.

Laowa officially announces the 10mm F2.8 Zero-D FF

Laowa announced the 10mm F2.8 Zero-D FF that supports autofocus for the Sony and Nikon mounts, but not the L or RF mount. At 10mm though, I doubt you need autofocus that much, to be honest. We had previously told you this lens was coming, and now it’s officially out with some prices and timelines.

Sigma remains non-commital to Canon RF

In news that I’m sure everyone here knows I’ll not like (but we won’t get into that today). Sigma seems to have stated that the plans for further RF development are quite a bit away. Sigma’s President, Mr Yamaki was talking to Mynavi News at CP+ and shared some information about the question that is on

Kase creates a 200mm F5.6 Catadioptric for RF mount

Outside of a few internet resources I can find little about this from actually Kase. I’m going to assume this isn’t generally available but was soft-announced during CP+ 2024, as Kase is there. Kase, who makes some pretty nice filters and sets seems to be setting their sights on lenses (like just about every other

Is removing the filter from the 48mm PL-C drop in filter holder ok?

I just got a lens that has the 48mm PL-C drop in insert filter in it. I would much prefer just the normal 48mm filter insert. So, I guess this post is to ask two questions, both of which I'm pretty sure I know the answer to, but one of which I don't really want to accept the answer to.

1) I noticed that there is a thin snap ring holding the filter in place. I removed the snap ring, and it's easily possible to remove the polarizing filter from the holder entirely, leaving just an open hole. Since this is the only 48mm filter holder I have, I assume it's fine to just use it without the filter in place for the 95% of the time that I don't want a polarizer?

2) It looks like the standard 48mm filter holder is pretty much unobtainable. Is there any way to get ahold of one of these, or just watch ebay and hope? (I already know the answer is no, and yes, this is just the question that I don't want to accept the answer to.)

I guess ultimately maybe it's better to have the PL-C holder because at least I have the option of using the polarizer? Still kind of a bummer to be without the standard one though.

R5 30-minute cutoff

I bought my R5 mainly for stills. Recently, I've also started using it to record discussions that last longer than 30 minutes. At the 30-minute mark, the camera stops recording video and I have to jump up and press the record button to continue recording. Is there a system update that solves this problem? If not, is there a more recent pro-level Canon that does not do this?

Sony officially announces the FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G Lens

The FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G is designed for Sony Alpha full-frame E-mount mirrorless cameras, but it also works with APS-C sensor cameras (with an effective focal length of 36-75mm due to the 1.5x crop factor). Here’s what you need to know about this lens: The Sony FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G Lens offers a compelling alternative for photographers
