Canon Patent Application: Improved Sub-Wavelength Coatings

In this patent application (2024-063513), Canon is looking at improving the subwavelength coatings for optical elements. In an optical system constituted by optical elements, reflection of incident light on the surface and inner surface of the optical element is undesirable because it causes a loss in the amount of transmitted light and reflection ghosts. Therefore,

Printer Advice. I want to replace my Printer Canon Pro 10

I've a Canon Pro-10. The print head is dying on it. I can see 3rd party heads for it with bad reviews but I can't see an option to buy the printhead from Canon.
The printer is quite old now.
I was looking for some advice on buying a replacement.
I'd be open to Canon or Epson.
I love the print from a Canon Pro-10 but it is a frustrating machine. In my case its extremely difficult to access the printhead when there is an error. It's locked in the right of the machine. Every so often I can get it out to clean it and it works again for a while. It's basically built in obsolescence. It's not a machine designed to be fixed. Error codes and instructions on fixing are borderline pathetic. Possibly Epson is no better. It's a huge chunk of metal and plastic to dump. "Sustainability" is just a catchy phrase.
The other issue is Ink Size. Very small in the Pro-10 and only slightly improved in new machines. There is so much waste of ink in the set up of the printer and it takes for ever to get going on start-up or on ink change (which is almost every time I use it).

I want an A3+ Printer at least as good as the Pro-10
Would anyone recommend a Canon or Epson Professional Printer?
For Canon the choice seems to be between Canon PIXMA PRO-200 A3 Plus Colour Photo Wireless Printer and a Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300 A3 Plus Colour Photo Wireless Printer
Epson I'm less familiar with. SureColor SC-P700 seems to be an option. Bigger tanks 25mk.

Canon Patent Application: The 200-800mm pops up

This is more for your curiosity because this isn’t for an upcoming product, but one in which has already been released by Canon. But some of you may be interested in seeing some of the background that goes into making such a lens in the Canon universe. This patent application (2024-062200) shows the RF 200-800mm

Here’s what the anonymous grapevine has sent us over the 8 weeks

As we sit and wait during this most annoying launch cycle, the anonymous grapevine has continued to send information. This isn’t unusual, it’s part of the game. It has proven to be a invaluable resource over the years/decade. There are the usual trolls that are pretty easy to spot, but for the most part there

Canon Patent Application: Canon RF 35mm F1.4 and 26mm F1.4

In this patent application (2024-061921), Canon is showing off some curious embodiments for some prime lenses. These are full-image circle primes with no image stretching so understandably they would be targetted as higher-end primes. Maybe Canon got tired of my whining on the subject. But what I found most curious is that the focal lengths

Is Canon officially announcing two cameras in May?

We’ll beat the dead horse again by saying this launch cycle is unlike anything that we have seen before. We don’t really have any historical reference on how Canon is doing things this go around, and it’s most likely due to massive leaks with major products in the past. We can’t control it, so we

Lenstip reviews Sigma S 500 mm f/5.6 DG DN OS

Lenstip has reviewed the Sigma S 500 mm f/5.6 DG DN OS. It is optically great, being virtually diffraction limited. What is additionally interesting is that this very careful and reliable site explains how they coped with the problems from a long focal length. I suspect certain other sites are not as careful in their IMATESTs with supertelephotos, explaining why there is sometimes variation in reported values. It's a pity we don't have such a prime for Canon.

Is Panasonic about to enter the fixed lens full-frame camera space?

There are reports floating around that Panasonic may be about to enter the full-frame fixed lens camera space with an official announcement this month. Currently, Leica and their Q3 is the only other camera in the FF fixed lens camera space (there is also the monochrom Q2 which actually costs more). Sony has recently discontinued

Is this Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS USM a Buy? Advice pls!

I'm an R5 shooter and have been setting aside some $$$ in advance of an R5II announcement - until I recently came across a used EF 600mm F/4L IS USM - and now I'm torn. The RF 100-500 is the best telephoto glass I could afford and I expect I'll never be able to justify the cost of a RF 600mm. This used EF 600 is priced at $5K CAD by the original owner and I'm certain I could bargain a little more. I'm hesitating because I know that Canon will no longer perform repairs on this lens and I'm also still excited by an R5II - but 600mm's aren't readily available and I don't want to miss out on a good deal.

Is the EF 600mm F/4L IS USM even worth considering in 2024 or should I hold out for at least a mark II? Do you think the $$$ might be better used to upgrade my body? I suppose I could hold the $$$ and sell the RF 100-500 to fund the glass - but even that might be a bad idea?

I'd appreciate your input how you might think this one through?

Canon registers another camera for certification

Canon has registered another camera to the CMIIT (Chinese Ministry of Industry and Identification). The model, identified as DS126904 features WiFi 5 and Bluetooth. Unlike the other registrations this year which had WiFi 6, this one seems to be a lower-end model with the inclusion of Wifi 5. That makes a total of 3 digital

Still waiting - for a mirrorless 7D mkiii

I find myself still waiting for a mirrorless 7D mkiii. I have the R5 and R7. Back in the day, I had the 5D4 and 7D2. When I picked up either I had to sometimes look at the camera to check which one I was using - they were so similar. The handling was great.
As a would-be wildlife photographer, a crop sensor should be a simple way of getting me more pixels-per-bird. Now I find myself pining for a 7D equivalent.
I love the R5. The R7 drives me nuts with its strange handling and other shortcomings.
Please Canon, make me a crop-sensor version of the R5. Sort out the R7's quirky focussing and rolling shutter and put it in an R5 body. You can even save money on the development by re-using the R5 design.
Pretty please?
